Some Amazing Voters

On Friday, The Gateway Pundit posted an article about election integrity in Michigan. Basically the article highlights the federal government’s request for the state to turn over unredacted voter rolls to the federal government. However, the term-limited secretary of state, Jocelyn Benson, is resisting that effort on the grounds that voters’ Social Security numbers need to be protected from the government! But that isn’t what makes this story so interesting.

Here are a few screenshots of information connected to voters currently registered in Michigan:

Obviously, there is a problem here. These are only a few people from the article. I am amazed how people buried in other states managed to vote in Michigan.

Returning To Their Roots

The root of the Christian Church is the Bible. However, sometimes the church gets caught up in the culture and wanders from its roots. It is always good news when the church speaks out about things in the culture that conflict with Biblical teaching. The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) recently spoke out on one of those issues.

On Thursday, The Daily Caller reported:

Members of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) voted Wednesday in Baltimore, Maryland, to ban the use of transgender medical procedures in Catholic hospitals across the nation.

Although most Catholic hospitals were already not offering such procedures, the change became permanent as the bishops issued an “authoritative guidance” for the healthcare facilities, according to the National Catholic Reporter (NCR). They approved an updated text for the Ethics and Religious Directives for Catholic Health Care Services in a vote with 206 in favor, 8 voting no and 7 abstaining.

Part III of the text tells Catholic healthcare providers not to offer interventions “that aim to transform sexual characteristics of a human body into those of the opposite sex,” according to the NCR.

The directive instructs workers to “employ all appropriate resources to mitigate the suffering of those who experience gender incongruence or gender dysphoria,” while respecting “the fundamental order of the human body.”

The article concludes:

“Let us not fall into the sin of trying to replace the Creator. We are creatures, and not omnipotent,” Francis (Pope Francis) continued. “Creation is prior to us and must be received as a gift. At the same time, we are called to protect our humanity, and this means, in the first place, accepting it and respecting it as it was created.”

The Catholic Health Association of the United States said it will review the directives and called them consistent with its policy, noting 1 in 7 U.S. patients receive care from a Catholic hospital daily, according to a statement .

“Catholic providers will continue to welcome those who seek medical care from us and identify as transgender,” the statement continues. “We will continue to treat these individuals with dignity and respect, which is consistent with Catholic social teaching and our moral obligation to serve everyone, particularly those who are marginalized.”

All of us need to treat everyone who is transgender with respect. We also need to realize that encouraging someone to transition is encouraging them to do something that will have permanent consequences.

What Have We Taught Our Children?

On Friday, Breitbart reported:

Gallup reports that 40 percent of AWFLs* women aged 15 to 44 would like to flee America permanently. This is four times higher than the ten percent of AWFLs women who said the same in 2014. [*AWFL: Affluent White Female Liberal (Urban Dictionary)]

Back in 2014, the fact that ten percent of AWFLs women wanted out of America was not an outlier with the rest of the population or other demographics. Hell, if you ask me on the right day, like right after I’ve watched La Dolce Vita (1960) for the hundredth time, I’ll tell you I want to move to Rome.

But 40 percent!

Let’s see if we can diagnose this problem. Gallup reports:

The percentage of younger women wanting to move to another country first rose decisively in 2016, the final year of President Barack Obama’s second term. That year, Gallup surveyed the U.S. in June and July, after both parties’ presumptive nominees were set for the November election, which Donald Trump went on to win. Desire to migrate continued to climb afterward, hitting 44% in President Joe Biden’s last year in office and remaining near that level in 2025. This suggests a broader shift in opinion among younger women, rather than a solely partisan one.

The article suggests:

This is my suggestion to make everyone happy:

President Trump should offer these women, all 40 percent of them, the same thing he’s offering illegal aliens: a free plane ride to a country of their choice. Because these AWFLs women are citizens, he should throw in a $25,000 cash bonus to cover moving expenses. He should also offer to cover whatever it costs to safely ensure their cats and battery-operated appliances get through customs.

The AWFLs women win because they get what they want.

America wins because we have just rid ourselves of the most toxic, America-hating, useless, parasitic, crybabying demographic in our country.

To me, the obvious questions is “Where would they go and what do they think they will find there?” Are they not happy with the dating scene? America is not perfect by any means. We have a lot of challenges. In some areas we have some serious corruption. However, show me another country with the personal and economic freedom that we often take for granted.  Actually, I think the plane ticket is a really good idea.

Turning The Tide On Unreliable Green Energy

One of the problems with wind farms and solar farms is that the wind does not always blow and the sun does not always shine. As America moves toward energy independence, our country is also moving to proven energy sources. Wind and solar do not fit in that category–the countries in Europe that have tried to move entirely to wind and solar have had to change their policies.

On Thursday, WBOC, a DelMarVa news source, reported the following:

OCEAN CITY, Md. – WBOC has acquired a court filing in which the Town of Ocean City and numerous other local plaintiffs have asked a federal judge to prohibit any construction of US Wind’s proposed offshore project while a lawsuit against the project’s approval plays out in court.

The filing, submitted Wednesday, Nov. 5, is the latest move in the Town of Ocean City’s suit to reverse the Biden Administration’s approval of the project that would put over 100 wind turbines off the coast of Worcester County. Ocean City is joined by multiple local businesses, organizations, and residents in their legal battle against the project.

There have been a number of studies relating offshore wind projects to the death of whales and dolphins (one study here). There is evidence that the construction and low frequency of the wind farms interferes with the navigational abilities of certain species.

The article concludes:

WBOC has also obtained a transcript of a conference call on Sept. 18 between the lawsuit’s parties, including Judge Gallagher. During that call, an attorney for US Wind told the judge that construction for the project had already begun.

“I mean…the construction pursuant to the [Construction and Operations Plan] began last year,” the attorney said, according to the court transcript. “Construction is under way. We will continue with ongoing on-the-land construction next year, and…there is a detailed schedule, sequence of events that leads to undersea construction after that.”

What that construction entailed, where it was occurring, or whether it would be included in the proposed injunction was not clear. WBOC previously reached out to a US Wind spokesperson in October to clarify where this construction was taking place but did not receive an answer. We reached out again on Thursday but have not yet received a response as of 2:30 p.m.

Judge Gallagher has yet to weigh in on either US Wind’s or Ocean City’s preliminary injunction requests.

Let’s move forward with less damaging and more reliable sources of energy.

Why Turn Left?

Many of us assume that with age comes wisdom (generally gained through attendance at the School of Hard Knocks, but wisdom nonetheless). However, there is, in many cases, a feeling by the younger generation that they can correct what they see as the mistakes of the older generation. They believe they can do it better, whatever “it” is. The generation under thirty is the group the current Democrat party is wooing by moving their party to the left. This is not a new thing for Democrats.

In 1971, Amendment 26 of the U.S. Constitution lowered the voting age to eighteen. The Democrats nominated then Senator George McGovern as their presidential candidate. In 1972, 48 percent of people between 18 and 20 voted. They made up 6.2 percent of all voters. People between the age of 21 and 24 voted at 50.7 percent. They made up 8 percent of the voters. People between 25 and 44 voted at 62 percent. They made up 35.93 percent of the voters. In 1972, the early Baby Boomers were 26. They were a rebellious generation that was just beginning to make their political presence known.

As the Baby Boomers numbers are decreasing, younger voters are going to make up more of the electorate. The Democrats are counting on these voters to be ignorant of the lessons of history. Unfortunately, the American education system has willingly or unwillingly been helpful in creating an uninformed electorate.

Some of us remember what happened in the 1972 presidential election. The liberal wing of the Democrat party learned that they did not have popular support. They also learned the the youthful voters don’t always show up at the polls. Some of us are hoping that this denunciation of ultra-liberal policies will again show itself at the voting booth in the mid-term and upcoming presidential election. Unfortunately, that may not be the case this time. Younger voters often have no idea of the consequences of what they are voting for.

If you are looking for some interesting reading, in June 2011, Forbes Magazine posted an article about an op-ed written by former Senator George McGovern about his experiences after leaving the Senate. He definitely was rethinking his liberal slant.

How Fake News Works

On Tuesday, Hot Air posted an article illustrating how the mainstream media can manipulate an ordinary event into a full-blown crisis or racial incident.

This was the X post that began the incident:

The implication is that it has to be President Trump’s fault and this proves that he is a racist (regardless of awards for promoting racial harmony he won before becoming a Republican).

Well, not so fast.

Hot Air reports what actually happened:

Newsweek blasted out a headline implying the Trump administration “quietly removed a memorial” for Black WWII soldiers.

But — shocker — when you scroll all the way down, buried under piles of narrative-fluff, they finally admit the truth:

??? ?????? ??? ???????.

??? ??????? ??? ????? “???????.”

??’? ???? ??? ?? ???? ?????.

That’s it. That’s the scandal.

They manufactured a racial outrage story out of a museum rotation schedule.

And they were counting on people not reading past the headline — because that’s how the media plays the game.

??? ????? ????? ??? ?????, ????????, ??? ?????????? ?? ??? ???? ???? ????? — ???? ???? ??????????? “????????.”

And if you still trust the press at face value after stunts like this… you’re not paying attention.

You don’t hate the media enough.

That is only one example of the things the media reports that are largely responsible for the “Trump Derangement System” we currently have in our country despite the amazing accomplishments of President Trump. Would you rather live under the Biden economy?

Dealing With the Islamic Threat to America: Part I

Author: R. Alan Harrop, Ph.D.

In a previous article, I outlined the threat that unfettered immigration poses to America. Starting with this article, I want to provide more details and give examples of what we are facing and how to deal with that threat. First, let me state that I am not against the practice of any religion. I agree that America should allow the practice of any religion. However, an Islamist is someone who supports a political ideology that advocates for a society governed by Islamic law and values. The central goal of Islamism is the establishment of a state governed by Sharia law. A person can follow the Muslim religion and not be an Islamist. This distinction is critical to remember. I am opposed to any group that wants to fundamentally change America (as Barack Obama famously once said). Islamists are committed to using any and all means to create an Islamist state, including violence.

I would like to start off with an exploration of what Sharia law entails. The laws we follow in this country are derived from Western civilization sources such as the Roman Empire, Judeo/Christian beliefs like the Ten Commandments, and the historical British legal system. Sharia law derives solely from the writings of the prophet Muhammed. Also, our legal system focuses on the sphere of public interaction; Sharia law controls public interactions and also controls private behavior and beliefs. While an internet search will provide information about all of the elements of Sharia law, I am going to address some that are most concerning. Sharia law advocates drastic physical punishments for violators, as well as being especially restrictive to women. A few examples:  amputation of a person’s hand for theft; a woman who alleges she was raped must present four male witnesses in order to seek justice; a woman found guilty of adultery is punishable by death; Muslim men have sexual rights to any woman that does not wear a Hijab (covering of neck, head, ears, except face) in public; a man can have up to four wives, whereas a woman can only have one husband; a man can physically beat his wife for insubordination; a woman cannot speak alone to a man who is not her husband or relative; women and girls should be genitally mutilated; a Muslim who becomes a non-Muslim is punishable by  death; criticizing Muhammed, the Quran (i.e. their Bible), or Allah is punishable by death.

While these rules are obviously not the laws that Americans want to live by, the majority of people in many Muslim majority countries find them very acceptable. For example: 74% of Egyptians; 71% of Jordanians; 72% of Indonesians; 86% of Malaysians and 91% of Iraqis are in favor of living under Sharia law. Of course, that is their heritage, and they have a right to any legal system that they choose. The problem is that many of the immigrants from these and many other Muslim majority countries want to have Sharia in the country to which they immigrate. A good example of what can happen when large numbers of Islamists immigrate is the current situation in Europe. European countries have experienced higher numbers of Muslim immigrants over the past few decades than we have here in America (at least until Biden opened up our borders to all comers). As of 2024, 8.5% of the population of Sweden are Muslim immigrants; Britain at 6.9%, France 10.5%, Germany 7.2%, and Austria 8.6%. Estimates show that about 2%, or 5 million people in the United States are Muslims. One thing to note is that among Muslims, the birthrate is much higher than for native born Americans (which is now at 1.6 children per woman), so even if all immigration were stopped, the percentage of Muslims in America would continue to increase. As shown above, with a high percentage of Muslims committed to Sharia law coming to America, what is the likelihood that they will assimilate and become committed to America as we have known it? Very slim to say the least. Part II of this article will address the impact and what we should expect if the Islamic philosophy is permitted in this country. Stay tuned.

About Those Chickens–The Ones That Are Coming Home To Roost

It is becoming obvious why the Democrats were willing to go to the lengths they went to in 2020 to keep President Trump out of the White House. It is also becoming obvious  why the Democrats were willing to use unprecedented lawfare to make sure he would not be re-elected in 2024. The did not want anyone looking into the political and financial scandals of the last fifteen years.

There is a lot of information currently bubbling beneath the surface about violations of the Constitution in areas of surveillance, but also about some of the financial shenanigans involving NGO’s (non-governmental organizations) and some charities, including the Clinton Foundation. Without President Trump encouraging investigations of political wrongdoing within the government, very few of these investigations would actually result in any action actually taken. It remains to be seen if anyone will actually face consequences for their corruption, but without President Trump, we probably wouldn’t even be aware of the corruption. There is a danger in leaving the violations of the Constitution and the financial shenanigans unpunished. If left alone, it will continue to flourish. As I write this, there are some grand jury referrals that we need to watch carefully. What happens in the cases headed toward various grand juries will be an indication of what is to come. I can only hope we have enough uncorrupt people, judges, and leaders left in America to follow through on the evidence we now have.

The fight is not over, and the corruption is still with us. We can only hope that if a Republican becomes the next president, he will be willing to continue the fight. There is one potential candidate, currently below the radar who, if elected, would be part of the problem–not part of the solution. I am not ready to name names, but I would wholeheartedly support a Vance/Rubio ticket in 2028.

What Happens Next

The Senate has voted to end the government shutdown. CNBC posted an article on Monday (updated Tuesday) explaining what happens next.

The article reports:

  • The Senate passed a bill to end the U.S. government shutdown.
  • House Speaker Mike Johnson called for House members to travel to Washington, D.C., so that they can vote as soon as possible on the deal.
  • To end the shutdown, the House needs to pass the Senate bill, and then President Donald Trump must sign it into law.

There are some grumblings among more liberal Democrats that they will try to stop the bill in the House, but I don’t think they will succeed.

The article notes:

House members were told that votes on the deal could begin by 4 p.m. ET on Wednesday.

Before the Senate vote, Johnson refused to commit to the deal’s key guarantee to Democrats: that Congress will hold a separate vote in December on potentially extending enhanced Affordable Care Act subsidies. That vote would be on a bill of the Democrats’ choosing, according to the Senate agreement.

“I’m not committing to it or not committing to it,” Johnson, R-La., said Monday on CNN.

Those subsidies, which are due to expire at the end of December, help reduce the cost of individual health insurance plans for more than 20 million Americans.

What the article fails to mention is that the subsidies go to the insurance companies rather than to the people buying the insurance. The insurance companies have no incentive to lower premiums or cut costs. The impact of the subsidies going to the insurance companies on the price of insurance is similar to what happened to college tuition when the government got involved in the student loan program. When you take away incentive to lower prices, prices do not get lowered.

The article concludes:

The Senate deal would fund the government through the end of January; reverse all shutdown-related layoffs of federal employees; and guarantee that all federal workers will be paid their normal salaries during the shutdown.

The deal also includes provisions for a bipartisan budget process and prevents the White House from using continuing resolutions to fund the government.

CRs have been repeatedly used to avoid government shutdowns, but are controversial because they frequently avoid lawmakers having to make decisions about long-term funding of the government that a normal budget would resolve.

The deal would also fund, through September, the SNAP program, which helps feed 42 million Americans through food stamps.

Under a federal law passed in 2019, government employees who are furloughed during a shutdown must be paid for the time they were out of work at their standard rate of pay “at the earliest date possible, regardless of scheduled pay dates.”

Good News From Memphis

On Monday, The Gateway Pundit reported the following:

The Memphis Safe Task Force, working under the coordination of the U.S. Marshals Service, has rescued 101 missing children and cleared more than 1,000 outstanding warrants in just 40 days.

Can we send the U.S. Marshals Service to every other city in America to rescue children?

The article reports:

According to News Nation, U.S. Marshals have arrested 2,342 individuals across Memphis on charges ranging from homicide to narcotics trafficking, firearms violations, and sex offenses. Of the cleared warrants, 203 involved firearms and 264 were narcotics-related.

Among the 101 children rescued was a 15-year-old boy missing since September 2, last seen walking along Highway 64 in Tennessee.

Thanks to the task force’s collaboration with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC), the teen was discovered living in a van with his father in Hawaii, thousands of miles from home, according to WREG.

The father, who has a long criminal record in Hawaii and California, including domestic violence, abuse, drugs, battery, and burglary, had been hiding out at a construction site where he worked.

When confronted, he fled the scene, leaving the teenager behind. The child was found safe by the Honolulu Police Department on November 6, 2025, and is now awaiting return to Tennessee.

The article concludes:

“We are happy that we have been able to use our fugitive hunting skills to assist local and state authorities with finding these missing children,” said Emily Williams, U.S. Marshals spokesperson. “What a testament to our partnerships to be able to work these cases together. While investigative work is tedious, locating missing and endangered children is one of the things we are most proud of.”

This is what happens when law enforcement focuses on investigating criminals rather than concerned parents who attend churches or school board meetings.

The Trump Economy

Periodically, I watch television news shows with economic ‘experts’ that have Trump Derangement Syndrome. I watched one on Saturday. They were complaining about inflation and affordability under the Trump administration. Really? A dozen basic Grade A large eggs at Harris Teeter is $2.59. The average retail price of a dozen eggs in the U.S. was $4.953 in January 2025. Inflation? In January 2025, the average price for a gallon of milk was approximately $4.87. The current price at Harris Teeter is $2.49 a gallon. In January 2025, the average price for regular gasoline was $3.08 per gallon. In eastern North Carolina, the current price is $2.59. If that is inflation, can we please have more of it!

On Monday, Victor David Hanson posted an article at American Greatness about the impact of the Trump economy. He noted that President Trump is not getting credit for the improvement in the economy that his policies have created.

The article notes:

The current economic indicators, at least those attributable to the 10-month Trump administration, are strong.

Fourth-quarter GDP is estimated to grow between 2.7 and 4 percent, the robust latter figure according to the Atlanta Federal Reserve Bank.

Inflation from June to August ranged from 2.7 to 2.9 percent, significantly lower than the 5 percent annual average during Biden’s 2021-2025 term.

Gas prices now average $2.98 per gallon, compared to $3.46, the average cost during Biden’s four years.

In less than a year, Trump has increased oil production by one million barrels per day.

Unemployment in the second quarter of 2025 stayed steady at 4.2 percent, roughly the same as the 4.1 percent during the final month of Biden’s tenure.

The stock market has reached an all-time high. Foreign investment is pegged at record levels. Tariff revenue could reach $400 billion by the end of the year—vastly outpacing the $77 billion in all of last year, 2024.

In other words, the economy is rolling along.

To the extent the Trump administration has a problem with the economy, however, it is threefold.

One is public perceptions.

…Second, the administration and Republicans have rarely compared their own economic record with that of Biden’s dismal four years to explain how there is improvement in almost every area.

…Third, most of Trump’s key economic initiatives are long-term and will not be fully realized by the end of 2025 or in early to mid-2026.

The article concludes:

If the shutdown were quickly ended and the Fed steadily lowered interest rates by at least 2 percent, and if the media would just report the news rather than seek to create realities by falsification, then a strong, and soon to be even more robust, economy would likely determine the 2026 midterms, and with it the Trump presidency.

So the current Trump economy is in a race of sorts. The challenge is not nature, not war, not the unpredictable, and certainly not wrong economic policies and agendas.

The rub is a failure to highlight the radical improvement from the Biden years in just a few months, to explain that novel policies are already in motion that may revolutionize the American economy within a year, and to recognize the destructive efforts of partisan shutdowns, partisan high interest rates, and partisan hysterical doom and gloom fake news.

If Trump meets these challenges, voters could see the economy take off as never before in 2026—just in time for the midterms.

I think that is what the Democrats are trying to avoid!

We Have Reached Peak Insanity

At least I hope this is peak insanity and we will slowly revert to normal insanity.

On Monday, Todd Starnes posted an article on his website that included the following:

The Anchorage School District has a problem with the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution.

A website called, “Must Read Alaska,” posted photos of a disclaimer that had been added to copies of both Founding Documents.

The label read: “The Anchorage School District does not endorse these materials or the viewpoint expressed in them.”

A student alerted her mother who posted images on social media.

The article concludes:

Alaska Attorney General Stephen Cox called the label deeply disturbing – writing on X:

“Public officers have to uphold and defend the U.S. Constitution. I took such an oath on my first day. Alaska law requires school board members to sign—and swear to support and defend—the U.S. Constitution. When a public school district says it won’t endorse the Constitution or the Declaration, or “the viewpoints expressed in them,” something has gone terribly wrong.”

The school district has yet to weigh in on the controversy.

There’s a simple fix to all of this – either the Anchorage School District removes the label or the Department of Education should remove its federal funding.

Where The Money Went

On  Saturday (updated Sunday), Just the News posted an article about where the  government’s money for healthcare has been spent.

The article reports:

More evidence has emerged showing that — despite the claims of Democrats — illegal immigrants have benefited from millions of federal tax dollars. The government watchdog group Open the Books released a new analysis that found almost $197 million in federal healthcare-related grants have benefited illegal immigrants since fiscal year 2021.

That is NOT pocket change and needs to be ended.

The article continues:

According to the report, the grants include both direct services and academic research aimed at expanding access to healthcare for immigrant populations. Open the Books’ researchers said they searched federal databases for grant descriptions that explicitly mentioned terms such as “undocumented” or “unauthorized,” suggesting that the actual total amount of taxpayer funding could be higher.

The article concludes:

Open the Books said the $197 million total does not include “indirect spending on illegal immigrants through Medicaid, which was estimated by the Congressional Budget Office to be around $27 billion from FY 2017-2023, nor does it account for education spending that benefits illegal immigrants and their children, which amounts to an estimated $70 billion annually.”

Open the Books identified about $13 million in new awards since February 2025 after the start of Trump’s second term. Under Trump, border encounters have dropped significantly amid increased federal enforcement. According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection, “26,197 total encounters nationwide” occurred under Trump — a 93% below the peak of the Biden administration’s 370,883.

The spending on illegal immigrants through Medicaid is what the Democrats want to continue. The fact that the Republicans will not agree to that is one of many reasons the government remains shut down.

The Kabuki Theater Has Ended

Theoretically, the government shutdown is over. Five Democrats broke ranks with their party to cross over and vote to open the government. The image being presented is that the Democrat party is furious over their defection. I seriously doubt that. The liberal base may be furious, but I still believe we still have some rational Democrats who tend toward the center. The Democrats needed an off ramp, and these five Democrats (along with the three who previously voted to open the government) gave it to them. So let’s look at the five Democrats who ended the stalemate. Tim Kaine of Virginia (currently a very blue state) does not have to run until 2030. Jeanne Shaheen of New Hampshire has already stated that she will not be seeking re-election. Maggie Hassan of New Hampshire does not have to run until 2028 (three years is forever in politics).  Jacky Rosen of Nevada does not have to run until 2030, and Dick Durbin of Illinois is not running for re-election.

It appears that the Democrat party is currently trending left. That may continue, but there is also the possibility that as the Democrats see the consequences of some of their more liberal policies, the pendulum may swing back toward the center. The word of the day is ‘affordability.’  While I sympathize with young people trying to buy their first house, most of their parents went through the same thing. However, most of their parents bought what was then called a ‘starter house’ to build equity before they bought their dream house. That may be a concept that needs to be reborn.

So what can we learn from the shutdown? Coincidentally, the shutdown ended when it became apparent that members of Congress might face challenges when they attempted to go home for the holidays–all of the airplanes were not running on schedule, and not every Congressman has access to a private jet. If the airline problem had happened earlier in the shutdown and members of Congress were the people inconvenienced, would the shutdown have been shorter? If members of Congress and their staff were working without pay (rather than the military and government workers) would the shutdown have been shorter?

There is a way to prevent future shutdowns over budget disputes. In North Carolina, if the legislature cannot agree on a budget, the previous budget remains in effect until a new budget can be passed. There is no threat of a shutdown. Another way to prevent a future shutdown is to pass a law saying that if the government is shut down, Congress will not be paid.

The long-term consequences of the shutdown remain to be seen. It may slightly slow down the Trump agenda, but President Trump does not strike me as someone who is easily slowed down. During the shutdown, he continued doing business at home and abroad.

The shutdown was only a part of the very ugly turn American politics have taken in recent years.

Problem Immigration

Author:  R. Alan Harrop, Ph.D

When this country was founded, not only were we a country of immigrants, but we needed immigrants to expand and populate the vast expanse of the continent. This is no longer the case. The recent election of a Marxist immigrant as mayor of New York City (NYC) would not have occurred without unrestricted immigration. No country can retain its cultural and political integrity when overwhelmed by excessive and nonselective immigration such as we have been experiencing. We could take the position that what happens in New York City is not our concern since we do not reside there, but this would be a serious mistake as I will show. Let’s start with some facts.

In 1970, 18% of the residents of NYC were not born in this country, today that figure is 38%. Zohran Mamdani received 70% of the votes of foreign-born residents in his election as mayor, compared to less than 40% of American born residents. He was born in Uganda and still holds citizenship there as well as being a naturalized U.S. citizen. He has refused to renounce his Ugandan citizenship. He is a practicing Muslim and an admitted Marxist who does not reflect the traditional values of this country. Another example of immigrants taking over and not assimilating is a city of 28,000 people, Hamtramck, Michigan. In 1970, 95% of the residents were American born; today it is less than 40%. Muslims account for 70% of the population. Their mayor was born in Yemen, and their police chief and all six city council members are Muslims. Likewise in California, a state that elected Ronald Reagan as governor for two terms, the demographics have shifted. In 1970, the foreign-born residents represented about 12% of their population; now it is 38% and is solid leftist.

This disturbing trend is no accident. In the mid-1920s, a Republican Congress and President implemented a law that severely reduced the number of legal immigrants over concern that we were admitting more than could be assimilated as patriotic Americans. The law established maximum quotas for foreign countries. This law was in place until a Democrat Congress and President in 1965 passed the Immigration and Nationality Act that essentially eliminated immigration quotas. In addition, President Reagan in 1985 agreed to an ill-advised amnesty agreement that permitted 3 million illegals to stay in this country. A strict closing of the border was supposed to be implemented (which never happened). More recently, the Biden administration essentially opened the borders to all comers, resulting in a flood of an estimated 20 million people in four years. Europe has already experienced the negative impact of too much immigration– a dramatic change in their cultures making them unrecognizable from what they have been historically.

So, what do we do to prevent losing our culture, traditions, and ultimately country? First, we accelerate and complete the deportation of all illegal aliens. No exceptions. Not just those with criminal backgrounds. Second, we reinstate a system of quotas for legal immigration to ensure that we select those who are committed to accepting our culture and values. Third, we significantly reduce or eliminate student and work visas, especially from non-Western countries. Fourth, we stop allowing immigrants to receive welfare payments and free medical care and go back to the old system where all immigrants were required to show that they had access to sufficient resources to support themselves and not be a burden on our country.

If we do not take significant action, what we have seen in NYC will spread throughout our country and destroy the very fabric of our culture and traditions. We need to elect officials who recognize and are will to make the hard decisions to deal with this oncoming crisis.

Continuing The Shutdown

On Friday, Fox News posted an article about a recent vote in the Senate. Obviously, the Democrat filibuster is preventing the Republicans from opening the government, but the Democrats won’t even vote to help the people being hurt by the shutdown.

The article reports:

Senate Democrats again blocked a plan by Republicans to ensure that federal workers and the military would receive a paycheck as the shutdown back and forth revs into high gear.

Sen. Ron Johnson, R-Wis., again tried to advance a modified version of his “Shutdown Fairness Act” bill that would see federal workers and the military paid now and during subsequent government shutdowns. However, the bill failed 53-43 with 3 Democrats defecting to support the bill. Georgia Sens. Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff, and Ben Ray Luján of New Mexico voted for the bill.

Last month, it was blocked over concerns from Senate Democrats that it did not include furloughed workers.

The article concludes:

The GOP’s attempt to pay federal workers amid the ongoing, 38-day shutdown came as Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., and his caucus announced their counter-offer to Senate Republicans’ plan to reopen the government.

Schumer’s offer included attaching a one-year extension onto expiring Obamacare subsidies — the main sticking point of the shutdown — in exchange for the Democratic votes to reopen the government.

But the offer, which a source told Fox News Digital had been made in private to Senate Republicans last week and was summarily rejected, was again not going over well with Republicans.

The Senate is expected to return on Saturday to vote on the House-passed plan for a 15th time. Whether Schumer and his caucus block it once more remains to be seen.

Schumer’s offer was essentially “You give us what we want and we will allow you to open the government.” That’s pretty much your basic hostage statement. I particularly like Senator Kennedy’s suggestion for a law that says if federal workers are not paid, Congress should not be paid.

Media Bias And The Shutdown

On Wednesday, Newsbusters posted an article about the media coverage of the government shutdown. The coverage is pretty much what you would expect,

The article reports:

For the past month the big three broadcast networks (ABC, CBS, and NBC) have hammered both Congressional Republicans and President Trump with a wall of negative shutdown coverage, while largely shielding Democrats from blame for the now-historic gridlock.

MRC analysts examined every evening newscast on ABC, CBS, and NBC between October 1 and October 31, 2025. Across the 67 reports and news briefs which discussed the government shutdown, 87 percent of the coverage favored Democrats. Analysts found 83 evaluative statements in which anchors or reporters were critical of Republicans, but just twelve criticizing Democrats.

Summary of Findings

    • Broadcast shutdown coverage heavily favored Democrats over Republicans (87% to 13%).
    • Only 12 reports (less than one fifth) even mentioned that Senate Democrats had refused to vote for a clean continuing resolution.
    • Not a single report mentioned that Democrats voted back in March to end the same Obamacare subsidies which they’re now demanding.

The article notes:

Broadcast reporters also frequently laundered common Democrat talking points as their own objective reporting. For example, we found twelve instances in which House Speaker Mike Johnson’s (R-LA) refusal to call the House back into session was framed as a major cause of the shutdown — a frequent argument by Congressional Democrats.

Republicans received no such friendly treatment. Not a single journalist on any of the three networks voiced the popular Republican talking point that Senate Democrats earlier this year had voted in favor of a continuing resolution which contained the same cuts to healthcare subsidies for which they were now keeping the government closed.

The article concludes:

Back during the 2013 government shutdown, when Democrats controlled both the White House and the Senate, the broadcast networks aired 41 reports blaming Republicans. Just 17 stories blamed both sides, and there was not a single instance in which any broadcast journalist specifically blamed Democrats.

But in 2025, with Republicans in control of both chambers and the White House, there were only ten reports that blamed Democrats exclusively. That’s less than one-third of the blame they heaped on Republicans back in 2013. Wilder still, analysts found four instances in which journalists blamed Republicans for the current shutdown.

Some of the things that should be mentioned in the news reports (but are not) are that the Obamacare subsidies go to the insurance companies. There is no guarantee of any savings being passed on to the consumer. It should also be mentioned that in many cases the money the Democrats want will go to providing medical care to people who are not citizens rather than to Americans.

At this point I am beginning to believe that the shutdown is simply a method to stop President Trump’s economic policies from succeeding. If his policies succeed, it will be a nail in the coffin of the Washington establishment. If President Trump is a successful President, it is quite possible that our next President will be another  Republican who is also not part of the deep state. Preventing that from happening is probably the root cause of the continuing shutdown.

The Latest Proposal

On Friday, Senator Schumer offered to open the government if the Republicans would agree to his demands. That is not exactly what he said, but that is the essence of it–I will release the hostages if you will give me what I want. That’s hardly a reasonable request.

On Friday, Red State posted an article that included Senator Kennedy from Louisiana’s response.

The article reports:

Senator John Kennedy (R-LA) had a savage response to his fellow Democrat leader, Sen. Chuck Schumer (NY), offering to reopen the government, and said it involves needing “bail money” if God were to give him strength rather than patience after hearing it.

On Friday, Schumer announced his proposal, in which he said that he and his Democrat colleagues would agree to reopen the government if, and only if, the Republicans extended COVID-19-era Obama-care subsidies for another year, and then they could sit down to negotiate with the GOP to deal with healthcare costs.

…”What Senator Schumer is suggesting is that we do the dumbest thing possible that won’t work. Stupid should hurt more.” “[Schumer’s proposal] means we would have to take $35B of taxpayer money and give it directly to health insurance companies without any commitment of lowering premiums.”

The article concludes:

“I’ve voted more than a dozen times to fund the government—but many politicians are too scared of pressure from socialists to do the right thing,” Kennedy wrote. “I think a missing paycheck would make them grow a spine.”

Kennedy might be right that when Democrats see zero paychecks, like Air Traffic Controllers have experienced, they might snap out of this insanity.

Senator Kennedy has proposed a law that Congress would not get paid while the government is shut down. Good idea.

When Politics Is More Important Than What Is Good For Americans

On Friday, The Daily Caller posted an article about a recent vote taken in the Senate.

The article reports:

Almost all Senate Democrats rejected a bipartisan bill Friday evening to pay active-duty troops and federal employees reporting to work, including Capitol Police officers, during the 38-day government shutdown.

Lawmakers voted 53 to 43 to advance the federal worker pay bill, falling seven votes short of the Senate’s 60-vote threshold. The failed vote marks the second time a majority of Democrats have blocked legislation to pay some federal workers during the funding lapse.

I guess they really care about the well being of working Americans.

The article notes:

“Let me be clear about what a ‘no’ vote means,” Senate Majority Whip John Barrasso, the second-highest-ranking Senate Republican, said during floor remarks Friday. “A NO vote is a vote to refuse to pay air traffic controllers who are working. Refuse to pay TSA agents who are working. Refuse to pay military members who are serving around the world. Refuse to pay Capitol Police officers who are here in this building working.”

The article concludes:

GOP lawmakers have been adamant throughout the 38-day shutdown that they will not negotiate on health care policy until Democrats vote to fund the government.

“Democrats want to give $35 billion next year to insurance companies for subsidies with no fraud controls and to benefit the wealthy. Hard no, Chuck,” Senate Republicans’ X account wrote, referring to Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer.

President Donald Trump called on the Senate to stay in session over the weekend to hammer out a deal. If lawmakers do not come to an agreement, Trump called on Republicans to invoke the nuclear option and kill the Senate’s legislative filibuster to pass a funding measure on their own.

Thune told the Daily Caller News Foundation in an exclusive interview on Wednesday that Republicans lack the votes to nuke the longstanding procedural rule.

“Not even close,” the majority leader said of the whip count.

As the shutdown continues, I suspect there may be more senators willing to end the filibuster. This is ridiculous!

The Money Has Been Paid, The Demands Are Now Made

Zohran Mamdani’s campaign was funded by some truly questionable sources. They include the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), Alex Soros (son of George Soros), and the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) (article here).

On Friday, Townhall reported:

Mamdani’s socialist Muslim backers were thrilled with this win. CAIR invested a significant amount of money in Mamdani’s campaign, hoping for this exact outcome.

But the real news today is the leaked documents showing the DSA has a list of demands for Mamdani’s administration, and they’re all socialist and very anti-Israel.

The article includes the list of demands:

And here’s a list of the DSA’s demands for Mamdani’s administration (emphasis added):

  • Divest City pension funds from Israeli bonds and securities

  • Withdraw City funds from banks that lend money to Israel or do business in Israel

  • End City contracts with companies that do business with Israel

  • Operate City-run grocery stores free from Israeli products

  • Investigate real estate agents hosting illegal sales of stolen lands in the West Bank

  • Evict weapons manufacturers and transporters from the NYC Metro Area

  • Divest CUNY endowment and reinstate wrongly fired professors

  • Dismantle Eric Adam’s NYC-Israel economic council

  • End repression of demonstrators and the SRG [the NYPD’s Strategic Response Group]

This doesn’t sound like someone who wants to be the Mayor of all New York City residents.

The article concludes:

Rep. Mike Lawler (NY-17) called the list of demands “utter insanity” and wrote in a post on X, “As Chair of the Middle East and North Africa subcommittee on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, I will be watching closely and will conduct hearings if @ZohranKMamdani and New York City engage in policy detrimental to US Foreign Policy.”

The voters of New York City knowingly and unknowingly just validated anti-Semitism.

We Are Not Dealing With Judges Or Politicians That Have Any Concern For The People Of America

We need to remember that the political left has no desire or requirement in their own minds to play fair. The left has made politics and governing truly a blood sport. It’s getting worse. The American people are the pawns in their game, and now they have expanding that to children.

On Friday, The Gateway Pundit reported:

US Attorney General Pam Bondi went off on Obama-appointed John McConnell for forcing the USDA to raid school-lunch money to fund SNAP benefits.

US District Judge John McConnell, an Obama appointee, scolded DOJ lawyers on Thursday during a hearing and ordered the Trump Administration to fully deliver the SNAP benefits to states by Friday.

“The evidence shows that people will go hungry, food pantries will be overburdened and needless suffering will occur,” Judge McConnell said to the DOJ lawyer on Thursday. “Last weekend, SNAP benefits lapsed for the first time in our nation’s history. This is a problem that could have and should have been avoided.”

More than 40 million Americans rely on SNAP benefits, and the $5 billion emergency fund was not enough to cover the program for November.

…The judge played dirty tricks with the timing of his court order and the First Circuit Court played along to disadvantage the government.

“Why could we file this brief only this morning, with that clock ticking? The First Circuit clerk’s office made it impossible to file sooner,” Bondi said.

“Despite being notified by the government of the high likelihood of fast-moving litigation, the First Circuit clerk’s office refused to answer its phones until this morning, and refused to offer any means of filing this emergency request until it processed certain paperwork during regular business hours,” Bondi said.

I realize that ending the filibuster could be risky in the long term, but the Democrats and their dirty game are giving the Republicans little choice.

Other States React To The Election of Zohran Mandani

There have been a number of states that have reacted to the election of Zohran Mamdani as Mayor of New York City and the election in Virginia. Florida is expecting real estate prices to rise. A number of other states are offering refuge for fleeing New York City residents and fleeing Virginia residents. One state has made it clear that they do not want fleeing New York City residents.
