Washington Continues To Ignore The Voters

It’s bad enough that 80 percent of Americans support the SAVE Act, and the Republican Congress can’t seem to get it passed, but Congress is not the only group in Washington that is ignoring the will of the voters.

On Tuesday, The Daily Caller reported:

As voters head into the midterm elections, they’ll be looking at how the GOP has delivered on its mandates, especially its clear directive on immigration.

Voters elected President Donald Trump on a platform centered on large-scale removals of illegal immigrants and an end to the Biden-era open border policies. The influx of millions of illegal immigrants placed significant strain on almost every aspect of American lives, from housing to jobs. The electorate rejected this and demanded a fundamental reversal. Instead, Congress and members of the Trump administration consistently push for moderation rather than the much-needed intensity of the original agenda.

Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Sec. Markwayne Mullin has disappointed large segments of the president’s political base. While he publicly affirms support for the voter mandate of mass deportations, his operational decisions reveal a more restrained approach.

The Daily Caller notes:

It’s been two years since Trump came back into office. Members of his own administration have said that at least 20 million illegal immigrants came in under the Biden years. Even if the administration’s claim that 3 million illegal immigrants have been removed either by deportation or self-deportation since 2025 is correct, that number is not nearly enough to make a difference in relieving the hardship Americans face because of their presence.

Additionally, if Republicans fail to maintain control of Congress after the midterm elections, the number of removals will be significantly hindered by an oppositional Democratic Party. Knowing that the base is begging for action, one would assume that elected Republicans would be doing everything in their power to show voters that they are working to deliver on their promise for mass deportations. Instead, Utah Republican Sen. John Curtis, among others, continues to advance legislation that would create legal pathways to residency for illegal immigrants.

Washington truly is a swamp. Unless we manage to remove the rotting bureaucracy, we will never see forward progress on immigration, the budget deficits, or any of the other issues Americans care about.

It’s still July, and the mid-term elections are already heating up. This mid-term will determine the direction of the country for the next six years. Do you want to spend the next two years watching President Trump be impeached? That’s what a Democrat Congress will spend their time on. Or do you want to spend the next two years watching policies originate in Washington that make it easier to start a small business and will eventually bring inflation under control? That’s what a Republican Congress will bring you. That is the bottom line on the mid-terms. The mid-terms will determine who becomes President in 2028.

On Tuesday, The Independent Sentinel posted an article about three of the candidates running for office in November. The article simply quotes their own statements. You can draw your own conclusions.

The first–Michigan Democrat Abdul El-Sayed.

The article reports:

Michigan Democrat Abdul El-Sayed wants to eliminate fossil fuels and take away jobs from hardworking Michiganders: “We continue to rely on fossil fuels for our energy, we need to get to 100% renewable energy…”

…”I’m looking forward to the conversation about how we…pass Medicare for All.”

Next–James Talarico.

The article reports:

James Talarico — who said he “hates Christianity” — praised Islam for inspiring his religious beliefs: “I’ve learned as much about my faith from Salman’s tradition, from the Islamic mystics, from poets like Rumi, as much as I have from Christian authors…”

…James Talarico: “Prison is violence.” “It’s hard to imagine a world without prisons. Just because it’s hard to imagine, doesn’t mean you shouldn’t.” How very DSA of him.

Finally–NJ House candidate Adam Hamawy.

The article notes:

Adam Hamawy has stated, “Healthcare is not a free-market issue, it is a core responsibility of government.”

How does that align with the Tenth Amendment and the Oath of Office he would have to take swearing to uphold the U.S. Constitution?

Adam Hamawy, a Princeton plastic surgeon, is a frontrunner in a crowded Democratic primary to replace retiring Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman (D.) in New Jersey’s deep-blue 12th Congressional District—despite his years-long friendship with Omar Abdel-Rahman, the Muslim extremist cleric who was sentenced to life in prison for his role in the 1993 bombing.

These are three of the people the Democrats are putting up for election. There is a good chance that at least two will be elected.

Victor Davis Hanson And The War In Iran

Victor David Hanson is one of America’s foremost historians. He is known for his clear analysis of both past and present history. On Saturday, Fox News posted some of this analysis on its website.

Here are some highlights from the article.:

Historian Victor Davis Hanson called out critics of the newly signed U.S.-Iran preliminary agreement, arguing that they are misreading American leverage in negotiations.

Speaking on “Jesse Watters Primetime,” Hanson disputed what he described as misconceptions about the deal and said the military conflict dismantled Iran’s infrastructure, leaving Tehran with no cards to play.

“They’ve suffered probably a half a trillion dollars to their nuclear military industrial complex that took them 50 years to build,” Hanson said in response to what he called “unhinged” arguments that Iran is better off now than before the conflict.

…The Trump administration’s memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Iran was released this week, laying out the terms of the deal reached by both parties for a 60-day ceasefire and a framework for negotiations.

The deal itself has drawn criticism from both sides of the political aisle, with critics arguing that it does not include aspects like an immediate dismantling of Iran’s nuclear infrastructure or the removal of enriched uranium stockpiles.

Hanson also pushed back against critics who have cited difficulties moving oil out of the region due to Iranian actions in the Strait of Hormuz.

He suggested that Tehran is concerned about America’s upcoming midterm elections and the nation’s 250th anniversary.

Hanson argued that if the conflict goes past the midterms, Trump will be less constrained by electoral considerations.

“They are terrified that if he wins the midterms and the price of gas goes down, he’s got a free hand, and he already has a free hand now,” Hanson said.

“They are afraid that Donald Trump is [going to] drag it out because if he drags it out after the midterm, after the 250th anniversary, he’s [going to] have a lot more options than he does now when he’s worried about gas and the midterm. So the dynamic is all upside down. They are the ones that have the time clock.”

It is going to be an interesting few months.

One Of The Side Effects Of Shutting Down USAID

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) was a taxpayer-funded agency that provided money for a number of non-governmental (NGO) agencies. Over the years it evolved into something you could reasonably call a money laundering scheme. When a country needed something from America, rather than give the money directly to the need, the money went through an NGO and then to where it was needed. Obviously, the NGO got their cut. What the NGO used their cut for was not necessarily reported. I don’t know if President Trump fully understood what would happen when the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) caused the end of USAID, but the consequences are politically significant.

Presidential years tend to be high-turnout elections, and off-years not so much. And since elections are won by margins, every bit of voter motivation matters. Getting a larger share of your voters to the polls can make all the difference, even in situations where the majority of people disagree with you. You need the majority of people who VOTE to win, not the majority of people who have an opinion.

With all that said, the Democrats face one very big problem: after Harris’s disastrous 2024 performance, which burned through so much cash to no effect, donors are not excited to give Democrats money. And, more importantly, DOGE and the fraud investigations have put a huge dent in the supply of reliable Democratic cash: government spending that goes into a black hole and then comes back to fill the party’s and its candidates’ coffers.

…Democratic voters may be foaming at the mouth, but it turns out that the mouth foamers have never been the big source of cash that the Democrats always claimed. ActBlue has been a money laundering machine, and USAID and other government programs have been handing over billions of dollars to NGOs that do the Democrats’ dirty work, and that firehose of cash has been cut to a trickle.

The article concludes:

Now that the money spigots are being turned off one by one, starting with USAID but going far beyond that, the Democrats can’t seem to tap into that sweet flow of cash anymore.

And no, the cash disparity can’t be attributed to Republicans being in power again—the Democrats had a huge cash advantage in Trump’s first term. Trump and the Republicans may be doing well in raising money, but the Democrats’ money supply really has crashed.

I can’t predict what the cash advantage will mean come November. The evidence seems to be that spending makes a marginal difference, but far less than you would expect given how often you see ads on TV. Probably the best money spent is on “Get Out the Vote” (GOTV) efforts, which Democrats are quite good at.

Or at least they were, using all those phony NGOs. We’ll see this year.

I am not crazy enough to try to predict the results of the midterms. There are too many factors–the economy, the propaganda, voter integrity, etc. But this is definitely turning out to be an interesting year.

A Word Of Caution To The Republican Party

I describe myself as a reluctant Republican. I am a conservative who used to be a Democrat until that party went totally off the deep end. I don’t want to see the Democrats take the midterms–I don’t want to go back to the Biden economy and endless impeachment trials. There is a real danger of that happening if Republicans stay home in the midterms. Why would they do that? An article posted at Substack paints an interesting scenario.

The article is written by Sam Faddis (former intelligence) and is titled,”If The Republican Party Wants The MAGA Base To Show Up In 2026 They Better Show Up For The Base Right Now.” The establishment Republicans have expected the MAGA base to get them elected and then ignored the wishes of that base. I suspect many in the base are no longer willing to play.

The article states:

For years, the MAGA base of the Republican Party fought to push the America First Agenda and to return Donald Trump to the White House. Against all odds and in the face of weaponization of the justice system, manipulation of the electoral process, and the intense opposition of the so-called mainstream press, it succeeded. Americans voted for an end to the status quo, an end to the oligarchs, and a return of power to the people.

And, now, with President Trump back in the Oval Office, we find that the MAGA agenda seems increasingly blocked. The GOP establishment seems determined to prevent meaningful change and continue business as usual in the Swamp.

The article concludes:

We were promised an end to the replacement of American workers by foreigners brought here to take our jobs. H-1 B visas remain plentiful, and Americans continue to lose their livelihoods and pensions to workers imported from abroad.

The Democrats have not gone away. Their party is increasingly dominated by Marxists like Zohran Mamdani, who wish to destroy the republic. What just happened in Virginia with the inauguration of Abigail Spanberger as Governor ought to send chills up and down the spines of every right-thinking American. She was elected because vast numbers of voters who showed up for Donald Trump in 2024 elected to stay home and withhold their support from a Republican candidate who did not appear to support the MAGA agenda. From the moment she took office, Spanberger has moved with astonishing speed to pursue her radical agenda. The same will happen nationwide if there is no immediate action.

If the Republican Party wants the MAGA base to show up in 2026, they better show up for the base right now. We voted for action. We have not seen it.

That’s a stern warning. I hope Congress is listening.
