The Latest Economic Numbers

On Wednesday, CNBC posted an article about the January Jobs Report.

The article reports:

  • Nonfarm payrolls increased by 130,000 for January, above the Dow Jones consensus estimate for 55,000.
  • The unemployment rate edged lower to 4.3%. A more encompassing measure slipped to 8%, down 0.4 percentage point from December.
  • As has often been the case for the U.S. labor market, health care led job gains in December, adding 82,000 positions. Social assistance also rose, up 42,000, while construction added 33,000.
  • The BLS also released final benchmark revisions for the year prior to March 2025. Those numbers saw the initial counts revised lower by a total 898,000, about in line with expectations.

The Workforce Participation Rate eased up slightly in January to 62.5.

The article at CNBC concludes:

However, the December numbers provide some reason for optimism.

While the establishment survey showed more jobs than expected, the household survey was even stronger. Used to calculate the unemployment rate, the survey showed a gain of 528,000 workers for the month as the labor force participation rate edged higher to 62.5%.

The data likely solidifies the Federal Reserve staying on hold with interest rates.

Futures traders raised bets that the Fed would hold the line at its March meeting, though the expectation is still titled toward a cut in June, according to the CME Group’s FedWatch gauge.

PJ Media also posted an article on the Jobs Report on Wednesday, but had a slightly different angle.

PJ Media notes:

The growth is focused on the private sector, which is good news because it is the private sector that drives economic growth. In fact, federal employment is at its lowest level as a share of the workforce since 1966. While economists expected private payrolls to grow by 70,000, the actual number is 172,000 for January. Government payrolls lost 42,000 jobs at both the state and federal levels combined.

…The economy added 5,000 manufacturing jobs, which is the opposite of economists’ prediction that it would lose 5,000 jobs, according to Fox Business. Job numbers for November and December were revised down, however, for a loss of about 17,000 jobs from the original statistics over those two months.

The DOL also announced on Feb. 10, “For the first time since 1999, U.S. steel production has surpassed Japan’s.” This is very important. For too long, we have been shipping our manufacturing overseas, especially to hostile nations like Communist China, leaving ourselves dependent on the whims of foreign leaders. Boosting American manufacturing is a necessary move for our independence and national security.

We are not yet where we need to be, but we are heading in the right direction.

Reporting Only Half Of The Story

On Tuesday, The Western Journal posted an article about the mainstream media’s reports on the impact of President Trump’s tariffs on America’s economy. The focus of the mainstream media is on how much the tariffs are costing the average American. If you are an average American, you might have noticed a little more money in your pocket at the end of the month–not less. The cost of the tariffs had been more than made up for by the lowering of the gasoline prices. If we could just finish getting other energy prices down, we would have it made.

The article reports:

Media outlets were quick to glom onto a study that found President Donald Trump’s tariffs resulted in a $1,000 increase in costs to the average American household.

However, they did not couple it with the savings Americans are experiencing overall, thanks to Trump’s economic policies, which more than offset the price of tariffs.

The Tax Foundation, which leans conservative, does not like tariffs, as its latest study confirms. They came out strongly against Trump’s tariffs beginning in February 2025, shortly after he took office.

ABC News reported, “The research called Trump’s tariffs ‘the largest U.S. tax increase as a percent of GDP since 1993.’ It suggests the president’s signature economic policy is exacerbating cost of living concerns at a time when many households are grappling with persistently high prices.

“According to the research think tank Tax Foundation, the federal government collected $264 billion in total tariff revenues in 2025 — far short of the trillions regularly touted by the White House. The research also finds the tariffs will offset most of the economic benefits of the new tax cuts from Trump’s signature tax law that took effect this year,” the news outlet added.

The article concludes:

During a recent appearance on Megyn Kelly’s podcast, Vice President J.D. Vance said, “If you look at the numbers on affordability, they are starting to move in our direction.”

“There’s clear movement from where there was, say, four or five months ago,” he added.

Vance went on to note that due to inflation spiking to over 9 percent during the Biden administration, the average household lost about $3,000 in buying power.

Meanwhile, “The average American household … has gained about $1,200 during the Trump administration,” he said, arguing that this is why people are still feeling the pinch, because they are still $1,800 per year poorer than when Biden took office in 2021.

“We recognize there’s still a lot of work to do,” the vice president argued, but things are going in the right direction.

If you take tariffs in the context of everything else Trump and his team are doing economically, Americans are definitely better off than they were under Biden.

It would be nice if the mainstream media would report the WHOLE story.

One Of The Side Effects Of Shutting Down USAID

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) was a taxpayer-funded agency that provided money for a number of non-governmental (NGO) agencies. Over the years it evolved into something you could reasonably call a money laundering scheme. When a country needed something from America, rather than give the money directly to the need, the money went through an NGO and then to where it was needed. Obviously, the NGO got their cut. What the NGO used their cut for was not necessarily reported. I don’t know if President Trump fully understood what would happen when the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) caused the end of USAID, but the consequences are politically significant.

The article reports:

Presidential years tend to be high-turnout elections, and off-years not so much. And since elections are won by margins, every bit of voter motivation matters. Getting a larger share of your voters to the polls can make all the difference, even in situations where the majority of people disagree with you. You need the majority of people who VOTE to win, not the majority of people who have an opinion.

With all that said, the Democrats face one very big problem: after Harris’s disastrous 2024 performance, which burned through so much cash to no effect, donors are not excited to give Democrats money. And, more importantly, DOGE and the fraud investigations have put a huge dent in the supply of reliable Democratic cash: government spending that goes into a black hole and then comes back to fill the party’s and its candidates’ coffers.

…Democratic voters may be foaming at the mouth, but it turns out that the mouth foamers have never been the big source of cash that the Democrats always claimed. ActBlue has been a money laundering machine, and USAID and other government programs have been handing over billions of dollars to NGOs that do the Democrats’ dirty work, and that firehose of cash has been cut to a trickle.

The article concludes:

Now that the money spigots are being turned off one by one, starting with USAID but going far beyond that, the Democrats can’t seem to tap into that sweet flow of cash anymore.

And no, the cash disparity can’t be attributed to Republicans being in power again—the Democrats had a huge cash advantage in Trump’s first term. Trump and the Republicans may be doing well in raising money, but the Democrats’ money supply really has crashed.

I can’t predict what the cash advantage will mean come November. The evidence seems to be that spending makes a marginal difference, but far less than you would expect given how often you see ads on TV. Probably the best money spent is on “Get Out the Vote” (GOTV) efforts, which Democrats are quite good at.

Or at least they were, using all those phony NGOs. We’ll see this year.

I am not crazy enough to try to predict the results of the midterms. There are too many factors–the economy, the propaganda, voter integrity, etc. But this is definitely turning out to be an interesting year.

The Other Side Of Green Energy

On Monday, The Daily Caller posted an article that illustrates the other side of green energy. The push for green energy has always reminded me of the search for a perpetual motion machine–it’s a great idea–it just doesn’t work. The sun does not always shine, there isn’t always wind, and batteries have to store electricity somehow. There is also the matter of what’s involved in the manufacture of electric cars, windmills and solar panels. There is also the matter of safe disposal of green energy items once they wear out.

The article reports:

Texas filed a lawsuit against a wind turbine recycling company, alleging it illegally dumped thousands of turbine blades and parts across the state.

Republican Attorney General Ken Paxton announced Thursday that the state is suing Global Fiberglass Solutions, Inc. and several affiliated entities. According to the lawsuit, the company was contracted by multiple firms to break down and recycle wind turbine components, but instead dumped roughly 3,000 turbine blades — or 487,000 cubic yards of solid waste — at two disposal sites.

“Illegal disposal of wind turbines hurts our land and will never be permitted under my watch,” Paxton said in a statement. “Just because the radical left calls something a ‘green industry’ does not give any company a free pass to harm Texas countryside, break our laws, and leave Texans to deal with the negative impacts.”

Under Texas law, recycling facilities must process at least 75% of the material they receive each year to avoid being classified as waste disposal sites. State officials allege Global Fiberglass Solutions has never met that threshold since beginning operations in 2017.

The article concludes:

Countries across Europe that heavily invested in wind energy are now confronting growing volumes of discarded turbine components. One town in Scotland is struggling with blade waste, while countries such as Germany, Spain, and Italy have been forced to invest in recycling after committing to large-scale wind expansion.

Europe will need to dismantle roughly 14,000 wind turbines by 2030, leaving it with 44,000 to 66,000 tons of unrecyclable blade waste, according to WindEurope.

While the Biden administration strongly promoted wind development, the Trump administration has moved to rein in the heavily subsidized industry. In July, the Department of the Interior announced it would end “preferential treatment” for the wind industry, and in December, it paused leases for five large offshore wind projects, citing national security concerns.

Things that work beautifully in theory don’t always work as well in practice.

Taking The Common Sense Approach–Not The Political One

Senator John Fetterman has done it again! He has been the voice of reason in the Democrat party. If someone had told me that would happen when he was elected, I would have thought they were nuts! I am amazed at his common sense and at his courage to stand up to his party.

On Monday, American Greatness reported:

Senator John Fetterman (D-PA) has broken ranks with Democratic leadership and has come out in favor of requiring photo ID for voting in elections across the nation.

Fetterman appeared on the Fox News program “Sunday Morning Futures” yesterday and told host Maria Bartiromo that voter ID wasn’t an “unreasonable” requirement, saying, “It’s not a radical idea for regular Americans to show your ID to vote.”

Fetterman pointed to states like Wisconsin that have similar protections requiring proof of citizenship for federal voter registration and photo ID at the polls.

He noted that 60% of voters in Wisconsin support such safeguards, despite having elected liberal justice Susan Crawford in 2025 to the Wisconsin Supreme Court.

House Republicans plan to vote this week on the Safeguarding American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) America Act with national polls showing 83% of Americans support the measure, including 71% of Democrats.

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries continued to decry the SAVE America Act as “voter suppression” and accused President Trump and GOP leadership of trying to steal the upcoming midterm elections by nationalizing them.

Our Founding Fathers understood the depravity of man–that’s why there are checks and balances within our government. However, I don’t think they believed that we would reach a point where a political party would cheat to win an election and voter id would be necessary.

Who Votes In America’s Elections?

On Monday, Red State posted an article about some voting irregularities in California.

The article reports:

Over the weekend a video clip posted by RNC Research of the Sheriff of San Joaquin County saying, “You’re able to register and cast a vote if you don’t live in the country,” and stating that a Pakistani citizen voted in a California election went viral.

Many social media users were wondering if this actually happened and if what he said about the “honor system” of registering to vote online in California is correct; yes, it did, and yes, he’s correct. Shakir Khan, a Pakistani immigrant and now-former city councilman from Lodi, California, was arrested in February, 2023 and charged with 14 felonies related to election fraud. RedState covered the news at that time; the original story can be viewed here. Khan pleaded no contest to those charges in January 2024, but recently made a motion to have that plea set aside and is petitioning the court for mental health diversion.

The article details the story:

  • During a raid of Khan’s home in October 2020 on unrelated charges, officials observed a stash of 41 sealed and completed mail ballots for the 2020 presidential election. Due to CA’s ballot harvesting laws the ballots were not seized, but investigators photographed the ballots and documented their findings.
  • In the fall of 2021, officials noticed 70 people were registered to vote at one address in Lodi, which they recognized as Khan’s.
  • Sheriff’s investigators determined that Khan had used the state’s online voter registration system to re-register existing California voters from other districts to his address, and at least a few non-citizens living in foreign countries (including his brother in Pakistan) to vote using his address, email address, or phone number.
  • Investigators reviewed the ballot return envelopes from ballots cast in the 2020 general election, which had been maintained by the Registrar, and found that many of those tied to Khan’s address all had the same handwriting on the outside.
  • In October 2022, officials found more than a dozen unopened ballots for the mid-term election, none of them addressed to Khan and many not sent to his address, at his home.
  • Officials also found Khan’s nomination form for his city council candidacy, and determined that numerous signatures on it were forged.
  • Khan forced voters whose information he’d hijacked to vote for him and for Joe Biden, either by filling them out himself or threatening the voter.
  • When Khan heard that investigators were speaking to people he’d fraudulently registered to vote, he posted a video to TikTok to threaten and intimidate them.

The article notes:

While both the San Joaquin County Sheriff and the Registrar stated that there were potential federal election laws broken by Mr. Khan, the Biden Department of Justice was completely uninterested in pursuing any charges. And California’s Department of Justice, led by scandal-ridden Attorney General Rob Bonta, has been more focused on preventing Huntington Beach from enacting a voter ID requirement than ensuring that this immigrant population receive justice after being threatened by this thug.

This is the reason we need the SAVE Act!

The Pay-To-Slay Payments Continue

On Friday, The Washington Free Beacon posted an article about the continuation of the pay-to-slay program carried out by the Palestinian Authority. In 1918, the Taylor Force Act was signed into law by President Trump.

The Taylor Force Act:

  1. Prohibits U.S. economic aid to the Palestinian Authority if it pays stipends to terrorists or their families.
  2. Requires the Palestinian Authority to take steps to end incitement to violence.
  3. Mandates a review of the Palestinian Authority’s actions regarding terrorism.
  4. Encourages the Palestinian Authority to pursue peace negotiations with Israel.
  5. Allows for exceptions in humanitarian aid to ensure assistance reaches civilians.
  6. Aims to hold the Palestinian Authority accountable for its actions related to terrorism.

The article at The Washington Free Beacon reports:

The Palestinian Authority will dole out $315 million in payments this year to 23,500 terrorists and their families, earmarking more than $19 million a month for a terrorism incentive program, known as “pay-to-slay,” that PA president Mahmoud Abbas declared dead last year, according to a new analysis by the Palestinian Media Watch (PMW) research institution shared exclusively with the Washington Free Beacon.

The PA has concealed these payments from Western governments by channeling them through alternate budgets controlled by the PA Security Forces (PASF), its civil services sector, and its pension office, PMW determined. More than 10,000 former inmates are receiving monthly stipends of around $1,280 to $3,800 each month, while the PA will provide another $87,000,000 throughout the year to 13,500 “martyrs and injured” in Egypt, Lebanon, Jordan, and Syria.

…By transferring terror-related payments to various government agencies, the PA has been able to declare pay-to-slay void and continue receiving millions from the international community, which largely froze its funding due to the pay-to-slay program. But most donor countries continue to award cash directly to the PA’s civil service programs, including the security forces and pension offices. Even the U.S. government, which froze most of its aid in 2018, still provides funding to the PA’s security forces.

PMW used newly unearthed Telegram chat logs to determine that the PA has rerouted terrorism payments through its pension program.

“The wounded and prisoners—6,000 of them [had their files] transferred to pensions in different offices, and they are now registered there, and they are calling them one by one, asking them for bank account numbers to confirm them as pensioners,” one recipient wrote.

Yes, Children Can Learn To Read And Do Math

On Monday, The New York Times posted an article about the significant improvement in schools in Alabama, Louisiana and Mississippi in recent years. I have written about this before when it was reported in Mississippi (article here), but at that time, only Mississippi had made the necessary changes to go from ranked 49th to 21st.

The New York Times reports:

  • Louisiana ranks No. 1 in the country in recovery from pandemic losses in reading, while Alabama ranks No. 1 in math recovery.

  • The state with the lowest chronic absenteeism in schools is Alabama, according to a tracker with data from 40 states.

  • Once an educational laughingstock, Mississippi now ranks ninth in the country in fourth-grade reading levels — and after adjusting for demographics such as poverty and race, Mississippi ranks No. 1, while Louisiana ranks No. 2, according to calculations by the Urban Institute. Using the same demographic adjustment, Mississippi also ranks No. 1 in America in both fourth-grade and eighth-grade math.

  • Black fourth graders in Mississippi are on average better readers than those in Massachusetts, which is often thought to have the best public school system in the country (and one that spends twice as much per pupil).

Could it be that when we introduced politics into education, education suffered?

The article concludes:

We liberals need to wake up to the reality that we are being outperformed on education, opportunity and racial equity — supposedly our issues. As recently as 2019, blue states had better average test scores than red states, after adjusting for demographics; now, red states are mostly ahead. We used to say that education was the civil rights issue of the 21st century, and if so, we should be ashamed that by that metric, Mississippi Republicans are ahead of California Democrats. If we care about kids, we must be relentlessly empirical, and that must mean a willingness to learn from red states.

Kane said something you don’t expect to hear from a Harvard professor: “I hope that there are lots of governors that are looking at Mississippi and saying, ‘Look, I want us to be next.’”

Law Enforcement Makes A Difference

Chicago is one of America’s great cities. It has wonderful museums, restaurants, and a beautiful lakefront. However, it also has one of the highest murder rates in the country. Lately, there have been some positive changes.

On Monday, The Post Millennial posted an article about some recent changes in Chicago. The article reports:

Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson pushed back on President Donald Trump’s claims that federal actions made the city safer, but acknowledged that there has been a significant reduction in homicides.

Johnson made the remarks during an appearance on MSNOW’s “The Weekend,” where he was asked whether Trump was correct in saying his actions improved public safety in Chicago. 

“He is not,” Johnson replied, accusing Trump of increasing “instability” in the country.

“Where ICE and federal agents were present, we actually saw an increase in violence. In other words, the tension and the chaos that federal agents bring to cities in America, it actually is counter-productive,” he claimed.

What about the chaos that criminals that are here illegally bring?

The article continues:

However, Johnson then acknowledged a sharp decline in violent crime. “Yes, we saw a 30 percent reduction in homicides, shooting, shooting victims, all down,” he said.

Johnson also accused Trump of escalating tensions with local governments, claiming the president has “literally declared war on American cities.” Johnson pointed to executive orders he signed in response that were aimed at limiting federal immigration enforcement, including efforts to create ICE-free zones in cities.

A thirty percent reduction is pretty significant. I suspect the mayor would be shouting that reduction from the rooftops if he were not afraid that President Trump would get the credit for it!

The article concludes with the following statement by President Trump:

“We could straighten out the crime in Chicago. We’ve already brought it down 25 percent just by being there. We could have Chicago be a safe city just like D.C. is a safe city. Just like all of these places that we’ve gone to. And I look forward — you know, I didn’t campaign on that. I campaigned on law and order, but I didn’t think I’d be going into individual cities and making ‘em safe.”

I wonder if the residents of these cities would like them to be safe.

Do We Really Need Another Government Shutdown?

The real reason for a government shutdown at this point would be to slow down the success of President Trump’s economic policies and to slow down the march of President Trump’s policies through Congress. Actually. the RINO Republicans are doing a good job of slowing down the Trump agenda in Congress.

On Sunday, The Daily Signal reported:

CNN’s Dana Bash pointed out to House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries on Sunday that a partial government shutdown over Democrats’ demands for restrictions on enforcement by federal agents would primarily affect agencies such as the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the Transportation Security Administration, and the Federal Aviation Administration.

Despite Democrats’ new list of demands for Republicans to avoid a shutdown, President Donald Trump’s One, Big, Beautiful Bill Act already provided substantial funding to the Department of Homeland Security.

During their “State of the Union” interview, Bash asked Jeffries how a shutdown would advance Democrats’ goal to “rein” in immigration agencies under DHS if it would disrupt others whose missions were not focused on immigration enforcement operations.

“Well, our plan is to get there on behalf of the American people. That’s why we need to press forward aggressively and ensure that there are legislative changes enacted as part of any DHS spending bill, because that’s the way that you change behavior,” Jeffries said. “And these are commonsense changes, things like mandatory body cameras. Judicial warrants should absolutely be required before ICE [Immigration and Customs Enforcement] agents can storm private property and rip everyday Americans out of their homes in such a violent fashion.”

Just for the record, everyday Americans are not being ripped out of their homes in violent fashion.

In January 2026, Politifact reported:

  • As of Jan. 7, there were 68,990 immigrants in Immigration and Customs Enforcement detention. About 52% had either criminal convictions or pending criminal charges.
  • From Jan. 20, 2025, the first day of President Donald Trump’s second term, to Oct. 15, 64% of all immigrants detained by ICE had either criminal convictions or pending criminal charges.
  • One think tank’s analysis found about 5% of people in ICE detention had been convicted of violent offenses.

The question becomes, “What is the acceptable number of illegal alien criminals to allow to live in America?” Are you willing to have them live in your neighborhood?

Changing The Channel

On Sunday, The Daily Wire posted an article about the TPUSA All-American Halftime Show.

The article reports:

The TPUSA All-American Halftime Show outperformed all expectations, with an incredible 6.1 million people tuning in to watch on the YouTube livestream, another 1 million watching on Charlie Kirk’s YouTube, and “monster” numbers on other partner sites streaming it including Rumble and DailyWire+.

Social media lit up with fans celebrating the Super Bowl halftime show alternative, and later with viewers proud of how many people turned up and tuned in.

“All in English, all talented, beautifully done,” one social media response said.

“It was truly awesome. Felt so good. And so proud,” another commenter agreed.

“I was proud of my country. Felt blessed for my family. This is what it should be!” a third person agreed, echoing what so many others were saying.

Secretary of War Pete Hegeth posted on X, saying the War Department was “proud to support” the show. “GOD BLESS THIS GREAT COUNTRY,” he wrote in the caption.

I will admit. I am totally NOT a country music fan. However, I tuned to the show because of what it represented. I may not like country music, but I like a lot of what it stands for–love of country, working for a living, etc. I am thrilled that so many people chose to change the channel. I don’t have anything against Bad Bunny–I know very little about his music, but a Super Bowl halftime show should be in English and salute what America stands for.

A Substack Blog called Eko Loves You posted an article on Sunday about the money behind Bad Bunny. The money behind Bad Bunny is in no way associated with people who love America.

The article reports:

The man who built Bad Bunny’s empire is Rafael Ricardo Jiménez Dan. Captain in the Venezuelan army. Official in Hugo Chávez’s government. Third in his class at the military academy, 1987. In 2014, he gave $2 million to a broke 24-year-old named Noah Assad in Puerto Rico. That money became Rimas Entertainment. Bad Bunny’s label. Dan owned 60%. He approved the signing. Rimas is an acronym for his children’s names. Ricardo, Marianna, Sophya.

…In 2023, Sony helped buy Dan out.

His name disappeared from the ownership papers.

…Dan says he served in government from 2006 to 2007. One year. Minor role.

Venezuelan Official Gazette archives show him in a senior judicial position in October 2003. Three years before he admits to starting. His 2006 appointment as Vice Minister of Legal Security was signed by his own classmate, Jesse Chacón.

After government, Dan registered companies across Venezuela, Panama, and Florida. At least a dozen. The registered agent on the Florida filings is Carlos A. Souffront.

Souffront is the president of Rimas Publishing.

Souffront also represents Dominican Senator Felix Ramon Bautista Rosario. Bautista was sanctioned by the US Treasury for fraud, embezzlement, and money laundering tied to Haiti earthquake reconstruction. He took over $10 million for work that was never finished.

Your church probably raised money for Haiti after that earthquake. Some of it ended up with a man whose lawyer runs Bad Bunny’s publishing company.

Dan says every dollar he invested came from entrepreneurship.

He was an official in a regime now under federal indictment for narco-terrorism. He retired to Florida. Millions appeared. A corporate network spread across three countries. Within a few years he had launched the most successful Latin music label in history.

Bad Bunny canceled his 2025 US tour. Said ICE might target his fans at concerts. At the Grammys he told America “ICE out.” The man whose career was funded by a Chávez regime insider, whose classmates trafficked cocaine with terrorists, armed militants, and carry combined federal bounties north of $50 million, wants you to believe immigration enforcement is the danger.

The NFL vetted this.

When Common Sense Takes A Vacation

Why anyone thought the current technology of electric cars was going to make them practical, I don’t know. There may be a future for electric cars, but the technology will have to improve significantly. The latest example of one of the major problems occurred in Vermont.

On Friday, Red State reported:

Prepare to be shocked, folks! 

Another planet-saving environmental solution foisted on the populace by all-seeing bureaucrats has turned into an expensive failure. The latest boondoggle is playing out in the upper New England area, where once again the “experts” in all things ecological lacked logic. 

A brand new fleet of EV buses, touted energetically last summer, has been brought to a halt in the frigid climes, frozen in place, if you will. This is all because the geniuses behind this globe-preserving mandate were incapable of divining that conditions in the area could quite possibly impact their harp seal-snuggling directives. The manufacturer, Green Mountain Transit of Montpelier, no less, did not anticipate this climate challenge.

It turns out the problem is twofold. The batteries that power these conveyances need temperatures above the 40-degree range to be charged, so naturally, these buses were deemed an ideal solution for the metropolitan region that can go months without cresting that lofty thermal bar. Additionally, these batteries have been found to pose a fire hazard, which could actually be both a problem and a solution in the tundra-like conditions.

As a result, the buses are now snow collection rigs in the parking lot, and the company is cutting routes and trimming schedules, a reality that runs contrary to the company’s tagline of “Getting you where you need to go!” It is just amazing to see a Vermont enterprise being rendered obsolete by Vermont weather. 

The article concludes:

The brilliant emergency solution was to either park the buses inside warehouses with the heat running all night, while the remaining ones had to be parked outside with the engines idling to keep the wondrous gas from turning to gel. So this new required fuel option, designed to save the planet, led to the need to burn twice as much, as well as consuming heating oil for the garages. Somewhere, baby penguin chicks were languishing due to cement-head decisions made by the inflated enviro-egos of these officials.

Part of me wants to sit back and just let these political hippies endure the problems of their own creation, but there exists a pre-pubescent reality with these fiascos – inevitably, we have to bail them out. Sure, it is one thing to let them marinate in their own quagmire, but they always end up needing tax dollars to remedy their failed science experiments. 

Maybe we should deliver to them the studies on greenhouse emissions that result from operating the presses at the National Mint. Maybe then we could say, “Sorry, can’t cut checks for you folks – we are too worried about the impacts on the ozone.” Then they could all concoct a new solution for their city, while they are huddled for warmth around the glow of a battery fire.

Anyone who has ever spent a winter in New England could have seen this coming!

Dealing With Circular Logic

On Friday, PJ Media posted an article about Senator Schumer’s remarks about requiring voter identification. The Senator has been consistently comparing voter id laws to Jim Crow laws. He seems to be in a panic that voter id will pass the Senate. Well, Vice-President J.D. Vance had the perfect answer to the Senator’s comments.

The article reports:

JD Vance just dismantled the Democrats’ absurd war on basic voter security, and he did it with such a simple argument that I have to call attention to it.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer caught heat after blasting the SAVE Act as “Jim Crow 2.0” earlier this week.

“I have said it before, and I’ll say it again, the SAVE Act would impose Jim Crow-type laws on the entire country and is dead on arrival in the Senate,” Schumer said Monday. “The SAVE Act is reminiscent of Jim Crow era laws and would expand them to the whole of America.”

He then doubled down on this rhetoric during an appearance on MSNOW’s Morning Joe. He doubled down, insisting the bill poisons any spending deal in Congress.

He lit up Megyn Kelly’s show with a takedown that hit like a freight train. “We want the sovereignty to be with the people who cast the ballots, and that’s why we have to get the SAVE Act passed,” Vance said. He mocked the left’s favorite dodge. “You’ll hear people say all the time… ‘Well, if you look at this precinct, you know, only three illegal aliens voted in this election.’ Number one, that’s three illegal aliens too many, and number two, if it’s not a big problem, then why not just allow us to check ID and exercise some basic precautions to prevent illegal aliens from voting?”

The article notes the problem with Senator Schumer’s logic:

Vance nailed the contradiction. Democrats scream fraud never happens. Then they fight tooth and nail to stop fixes. “I never quite understand the person who says, ‘On the one hand, this never happens, and on the other hand, your effort to prevent it from happening is a threat to American democracy,’ which is fundamentally the Democrats’ argument.”

…Schumer’s meltdown proves Vance’s point. Democrats fear clean elections. Americans want ID checks. Vance exposed the game. Democrats have relied on lax rules for too long. Republicans must hold the line and pass the SAVE Act.

It’s time for Congress to listen to the American people who overwhelmingly support voter id laws.

Politics Over American Citizens

The February 2023 rail disaster in East Palestine, Ohio, left a chemical mess. There were things that should have been in place that could have prevented that disaster. There was (and still is) an effort to put regulations in place that would prevent such a disaster from happening again. Those measures were put forth by J.D. Vance when he was in the Senate and being discussed again. Mike Pence (supported by wealthy donors), who plans on opposing J.D. Vance for the Presidential nomination in 2028, is speaking out against the regulations.

On Friday, Breitbart reported:

Mike Pence is siding with wealthy donors over victims of the East Palestine, Ohio, rail disaster, earning a cacophony of outrage from conservatives and prominent MAGA voices.

Pence, who like Democrats reflexively opposes Trump on issue after issue as he woos establishment corporate donors to enrich himself through his non-profit and stake a claim in the narrowing establishment lane for the 2028 Republican nomination, is fighting a bill first championed by then-Ohio Sen. JD Vance — and Pence’s likely 2028 primary opponent — to implement safety regulations for trains carrying hazardous materials.

The article quotes the Daily Wire:

One of the groups opposing the bill is Mike Pence’s Advancing American Freedom — a fact seen as a net positive by those in Trump world who want the bill to finally advance. If the former vice president opposes something, it only makes it more of a priority for Trump’s White House, one senior official told The Daily Wire.

“Anyone that wants the Trump administration to support a piece of legislation should pay Mike Pence’s think tank and its lobbying arm to oppose it,” the senior White House official told The Daily Wire.

The article concludes:

David Freeman used his popular X account Gunther Eagleman to accuse Pence of selling out to lobbyists.

“THREE YEARS after the toxic TRAIN DISASTER in East Palestine that poisoned American families… MIKE PENCE and his globalist think tank are now LEADING the charge to BLOCK Trump’s rail safety bill! Never Trump RINOs NEVER change, they ALWAYS sell out hardworking Americans to Big Rail lobbyists,” he posted. “Trump and JD Vance are fighting for Americans, Pence is fighting AGAINST Americans. Disgraceful. Traitorous. EXACTLY why we dumped him.”

…The battle for the Railway Safety Act continues on Capitol Hill, and Trump and Vance remain steadfast supporters. Time will tell if Congress sides with the innocent people of East Palestine or Pence and the cabal of corporate lobbyists fighting for the dangerous but lucrative status quo.

Mike Pence believes that Donald Trump should never be President. I believe that Mike Pence should never again have political power in Washington.

The Case for Homeschools Part II

In Part I of this article, I summarized the advantages of homeschools over public schools in North Carolina as parents attempt to exercise their right to choose how their children are educated. While homeschools have several advantages for families they also present significant financial challenges. I will address some of the realities of operating a homeschool and what should be done to help make the homeschool option more viable. For full disclosure, I have experience with public, private, charter and operating a homeschool as I raised my three children, all of whom now have families of their own. My youngest daughter is presently homeschooling her two daughters ages 7 and 10. My experience with school choice is somewhat unique.

In 2024-2025, the state government of North Carolina spent $14,503 per pupil in public schools for a total of $11.1 billion, 40% of the state budget. When you add to that amount what federal and local governments spend, the total is $17.8 billion. Since there are now about 180,000 homeschooled children (which is over 10% of all school aged children), this theoretically should represent a minimum savings of $1.8 billion per year. The savings comes from not only requiring fewer teachers and school supplies, but also from needing smaller and fewer public schools. At an average of one teacher per fifteen students, which is the average ratio in the public schools, the state is needing 12,000 fewer teachers due to homeschooling!

Now let’s examine the economic impact on families that elect to homeschool. First, there is the necessity of only one parent income, which is the exception nowadays where two parent incomes are the norm. This loss of income over the entire K-12 years of schooling is substantial to say the least, not only affecting current standard of living but future retirement. The dramatic growth of homeschooling over the past 25 years has provided a market for a wide range of homeschooling resource materials. They do come with a substantial cost that must be met by the homeschooling parents. There is a necessity for tutoring expenses especially as the children grow older and are taking more technical courses such as science, geometry, and calculus. In addition, many homeschooling parents incorporate museum trips, nature excursions, music lessons, sports/fitness activities all of which require additional expenditures.

Now in North Carolina, there exists a school voucher program called the Opportunity Scholarship Program that assists parents who send their children to private schools. The annual awards range from approximately $3,000 to $7,700 per year. Unfortunately, there is the typical socialist structure where lower income families receive the highest awards and the harder working families with higher incomes receive less. What do the homeschooling families receive you might ask? Nothing, nada, zilch! When I have asked various elected representatives why this obvious unfairness exists, I am usually told that the homeschooling parents do not want any financial assistance ostensibly because they do not want any interference in how they conduct their homeschools due to bureaucratic red tape and controls. Now this objection may reflect the concern of some homeschooling parents, but I have never been shown any data that indicates it reflects the view of the majority of homeschooling parents. Actually, there is a very simple solution to this concern, assuming it is valid and reflects the majority of homeschooling parents, and that is to (1) make any voucher program voluntary, and (2) to limit any bureaucratic controls. Private schools seem to operate acceptably under current conditions and rules, so why not homeschools?

The bottom line is that homeschools represent freedom of choice that must be respected. This respect should ensure that they receive the benefits allocated to other school choices.  Let’s hope we do not have to wait for a major lawsuit to correct a problem that should be obvious to all right-thinking individuals.

The Power Of The Primary

North Carolina voters have not been thrilled with their representation in Washington for a while. Thom Tillis never seems to pass up an opportunity to stab his voters in the back. Our representation in the North Carolina legislature also has some serious problems. They don’t seem to understand that eastern North Carolina is part of the state and contributes to the general welfare of the state.

On Thursday, The Daily Haymaker posted an article about the importance of primary elections. If you want to elect Representatives and Congressmen who actually represent you, you have to show up at the primary elections.

The title of the article is, “Tired of being *played* by the GOPe? Get their attention with the power of the primary.” Yes!

The article notes:

We told you earlier about how DOGE has been reduced to something being run out of the Office of Management and Budget.  Now we hear Ed Martin has been bounced out of the Government weaponization office at the Department of Justice. 

A grand total of ONE cut recommended by DOGE has passed the GOP-controlled Congress. We’veactually got elected Republicans reinstating wasteful spending the Trump White House cut via Executive Order.  We’ve got a lot of elected Republicans — including our not very smart junior US Senator — trying to sabotage the illegal alien cleanup efforts being led by ICE and DHS.

…We can’t even get Republicans in Washington to approve voter ID.

…Getting Phil Berger out of elected office would be another great grassroots victory.  According to what I’m hearing out of Rockingham and Guilford counties, that is very possible. (Berger has led the NCGOP’s transformation into an even bigger whoring-for-lobbyist-dollars operation than Basnight or Black could have ever dreamed of.)

…You’ve got a good conservative option out there in the 11th.  A guy with a great free-market name: Adam Smith.  He’s a special forces veteran and a successful small businessman.  He turned out to be one of the real heroes of the Hurricane Helene relief effort.  (You know, the operation Whatley was supposed to be running.)  

…In the US Senate race, DC and Raleigh have been trying to shove Michael Whatley down our throats.  Trump has been hyper-pissed at Thom Tillis.  Yet, his political operation is trying to replace Tillis with Tillis’s protege and preferred successor.  The DC party goons have gone overboard scaring all vendors, consultants, donors, and media away from anyone not named Whatley.  The result of all that?

…Someone slipped up and ran a poll showing Don Brown performing about as well against Cooper as Whatley is.  Brown has not been blessed with fundraising and strategy help from DC and Raleigh like Whatley has.  But he’s hanging right with The Chosen One, St. Michael of Gastonia.

The GOPe has been trying to pretend there is no primary for the Senate seat. A primary might have forced Whatley to have to answer for his sycophant protection of Tillis, and his penchant for screwing MAGA activists at every opportunity.

If you ever want to drain the swamp, you need to vote in the primary election!

Why?

Only American citizens are supposed to vote in federal elections. Why are the Democrats so reluctant to see this law enforced? Could it have something to do with the tens of thousands of illegal immigrants they let into the country during the Biden administration?

On Thursday, Legal Insurrection posted an article the Senate Democrats’ demands to pass a funding bill for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

The article reports:

Democrats are always telling on themselves, no matter what the issue is, and that’s certainly been the case with their militant opposition to the Trump administration’s immigration enforcement operations, which have taken place in problem blue cities and states across the country over the past year.

One “tell” in particular that helps make the GOP’s points in favor of passing the SAVE Act has come from a number of Democrats in recent months. Among them was California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D), who in August said that the ICE agents who showed up outside of an event he held were a “preview” of what was to come at polling places and “in front of voting booths,” that ICE would be sent there by President Trump to “intimidate people.”

American citizens (the people who should be going to the polls) are not intimidated by ICE agents–the only people who would be intimidated by ICE agents are illegal aliens who have no business being near the polling places!

The article notes:

But in perhaps the most glaring example of saying the “quiet part out loud,” the list of demands for DHS reform released by Sen. Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY), which was sent to Republican House and Senate leadership Wednesday, includes a call for no funding to go towards immigration enforcement operations near polling places:

Democratic leaders laid out their demands for reform at the Department of Homeland Security in a letter to Republican leadership on Wednesday, as lawmakers race to reach a compromise before the agency’s funding runs out in less than 10 days.

…Democrats also want agents to identify themselves, use body-worn cameras, and stop wearing masks or face coverings while conducting enforcement operations, among other restrictions.

Democrats are also insisting that DHS funds not be used to conduct enforcement near “sensitive locations,” such as schools, medical facilities, places of worship, and polling places.

Are they admitting that they plan to cheat?

The Case for Homeschools Part I

Since the recent week of Jan 25-31, 2026, was National School Choice Week, it is an appropriate time to address the status of homeschools in North Carolina. The number of children being taught at home has now reached almost 200,000 students in North Carolina, which is more than the number of students attending private schools, which is about 130,000. These numbers are considerably less than the 1.5 million students in public schools, although this number decreased by about 20,000 in the past year. Let’s take a look at why parents decide to make the significant commitment to homeschool their children. By the way, homeschooling is not a new idea. Actually, mandatory attendance at public schools in North Carolina was first passed by the N.C. General Assembly in 1915. Many, if not most, of the prior generations (including the Founding Fathers) were homeschooled.

The reason parents choose to homeschool depends on individual circumstances and concerns. Declining public school performance in teaching basic academic skills such as reading, writing, math, and science is a significant factor in choosing to homeschool. According to recent data, 51% of eighth graders in public schools are proficient in reading, 46% in math, and 70% in science. Homeschooled children typically perform at 15-30 percentage points higher than public school students. They also achieve an 87% acceptance rate to college compared to 68% for public schoolers. Another important reason for parents to homeschool is dissatisfaction with the leftist leaning curriculum in most public schools. Legitimate concerns such as instruction in racial issues such as Diversity/Equity and Inclusion; so-called social justice which teaches the Marxist principle that all people deserve the same benefits in life regardless of their individual effort and hard work; teaching that gender is the choice of the individual instead of being determined by one’s biological nature; and the notion that  government exists to provide the basic needs of life instead of individual responsibility are motivating parents to choose homeschools. According to a recent PEW research poll, the majority of teachers and school administrators are in lock step with the Democrat Party while only 36% favor the Republican Party. It should be remembered that all authoritarian governments use their control of public education to enhance their political power through indoctrination of students. The lack of school discipline weighs heavily on the decision to homeschool one’s children just as it is a major reason why teachers leave the profession. Not having to worry about a child’s safety and not being exposed to unruly, antisocial behavior from other students is a relief for homeschooling parents.

There are also many advantages to homeschooling. One advantage is that it fosters the integrity of the family. The time spent with children is invaluable to ensuring that they model the values and behavior of their parents. Homeschooling also ensures that the parents keep well informed about their children’s academic progress. The educational process is continuous in various family activities that provide an opportunity to teach; rather than only in specific places and times. Parents can pursue activities that reflect a particular child’s interests so that learning is an element of living–not just formal instruction, which of course has its place as well. Vacations and travel provide additional opportunities to incorporate learning activities. All educators believe that class size is an important element in effective learning as is verified by ongoing efforts to reduce class size in public schools. In the 1950’s typical class size was 30 to 35 students per teacher. Now across the U.S. the ratio of student to teacher is 15 to 1. Homeschooling obviously provides the lowest teacher to student ratio and thus more individual attention. This allows the parent teacher to utilize traditional learning activities instead of relying on electronic gadgets that in many ways are antithetical to the development of student’s ability to think and analyze on their own. How does a public-school teacher know if an essay supposedly written by the student is not some product of AI? Well, in most cases they cannot tell.

While homeschooling is not a viable choice for everyone, it does provide freedom of choice and bonding of the nuclear family that should be recognized. Part II of this article will address some of the practical aspects of ensuring that parents retain the freedom to choose how their children are educated.

How stupid does Chuck Schumer think we are?

On Thursday, Breitbart posted an article quoting some of Senator Schumer’s recent comments on the Save Act.

The article notes:

Schumer said, “It’s Jim Crow 2.0, and I called it Jim Crow 2.0, and the right wing went nuts all over the Internet. That’s because they know it’s true. What they’re trying to do here is the same thing that was done in the South for decades to prevent people of color from voting. For instance, if you change — you’re a woman who got married and changed your last name, you won’t be able to show ID and you’ll be discriminated against. If you can’t find a birth certificate, or a proper ID, you’ll be discriminated against. This is vicious and nasty. And I said to our Republican colleagues, it will not pass the Senate. You will not get a single Democratic vote in the Senate. We’re not reviving Jim Crow all over the country. And when the American people hear what exactly it is doing and what its intent is doing, they’re going to be against it as well.”

Since the majority of women who support the Democrat party are single, what’s the problem? Does Senator Schumer really believe that American women are so stupid that they can’t get a new driver’s license or social security card when they get married? I had no problem getting a real id as a married woman. I simply brought my birth certificate, my current driver’s license, etc., and promptly got my id. I think American women should be totally insulted that a U.S. Senator thinks that they are that stupid.

This Is Not Really A Surprise

On Monday, Breitbart reported that the United Nations (UN) is running out of money. Does this  mean we can kick them out of New York City for not paying their rent?

The article reports:

The United Nations is going broke and needs member nations to stump up cash. Lots of it. That is the plea from Secretary-General António Guterres who fears the globalist body is at risk of “imminent financial collapse” due to member states not paying their fees.

The former leader of the Portuguese Socialist Party said Friday the U.N. faces a financial crisis which was “deepening, threatening programme delivery” and money could run out as soon as July leaving the unaccountable globalist cabal destitute.

…Guterres sent a missive to all 193 member states outlining his fears and pleading they had to honor their mandatory payments or overhaul the organisation’s financial rules to avoid collapse.

It comes after the U.N.’s largest contributor, the U.S., refused to contribute to its regular and peacekeeping budgets and withdrew from several agencies it called a “waste of taxpayer dollars.”

These include the U.N.’s population agency and the U.N. treaty that establishes international climate negotiations, AP reports.

The article concludes:

Guterres said a rule that the U.N. must return unspent money on particular programs to members if it could not implement a budget created a “double blow” in which it was “expected to give back cash that does not exist.”

“I cannot overstate the urgency of the situation we now face. We cannot execute budgets with uncollected funds, nor return funds we never received.”

The U.S. is the U.N.’s largest contributor, but President Donald Trump has said it was not fulfilling its “great potential” and has criticised it for failing to support U.S.-led peace efforts.

The U.S. did not pay its contribution to the U.N.’s regular budget in 2025 and offered only 30 percent of its expected funding to U.N. peacekeeping operations.

Then in January last year, Trump withdrew it from dozens of international organisations, including 31 U.N. agencies, to “end American taxpayer funding and involvement in entities that advance globalist agendas over U.S. priorities.”

The U.N.s thirst for other people’s money appears inexhaustible as it still cries out for more.

Life gets difficult when America’s taxpayers refuse to pay for everyone else’s priorities!

President Trump Endorses…

On Sunday, The New Hampshire Journal reported that President Trump endorsed former U.S. Sen. John E. Sununu in the New Hampshire Senate race. Scott Brown is also running as a Republican for the seat. Scott Brown narrowly lost to Senator Jeanne Shaheen in 2014. Scott Brown was elected as the U.S. Senator from Massachusetts in 2010 to fill the vacancy created by the death of Ted Kennedy. Generally speaking, the conservative base elected him. He did not vote as a conservative and was defeated in 2012 by Elizabeth Warren. I am honestly not sure if he claims to be a conservative or is running as one. I would consider him a basic middle of the road Republican (borderline RINO). John Sununu has the backing of the Republican establishment, but I am not sure if that is any better.

The article in The New Hampshire Journal reports:

During the 2024 campaign, former U.S. Sen. John E. Sununu wrote an editorial calling President Donald Trump a loser.

Today, that “loser” is endorsing Sununu in the 2026 GOP U.S. Senate primary. And he’s picking him over his own former ambassador to New Zealand, former U.S. Senator Scott Brown.

“It is my Great Honor to endorse America First Patriot, John E. Sununu, who is running to represent the beautiful State of New Hampshire in the U.S. Senate,” Trump posted on social media Sunday.

“John E. Sununu has my Complete and Total Endorsement — HE WILL NOT LET YOU DOWN. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN — ELECT JOHN E. SUNUNU!”

Sununu is running to fill the vacancy created when U.S. Sen. Jeanne Shaheen announced she’s not running again in 2026. Shaheen defeated Sununu to take the seat back in 2008.

Shaheen narrowly avoided losing the 2014 race to Brown, but it’s Sununu who’s gotten the backing of most of the GOP establishment in this primary, including the National Republican Senatorial Committee.

“John Sununu’s deep roots and passion for the Granite State make him built to win,” NRSC chair Sen. Tim Scott (R-S.C.) said in October.

A NHJournal/Praecones Analytica poll taken the last week of December showed Sununu is the stronger candidate to take on U.S. Rep. Chris Pappas, the Democrats’ likely nominee.

Pappas held just a 42-36 percent lead over Sununu in a head-to-head matchup, while he had a 46-28 advantage over Brown. In both cases, Pappas was under 50 percent, and about a quarter of voters say they’re undecided.

One thing I like about President Trump is that he is willing to allow people who did not support him to change their mind. Think of J.D. Vance!

On Friday, The Federalist posted an article about a recent problem with the voter fraud investigation in Fulton County, Georgia.

The article reports:

A 2020 election scandal in Fulton County, Georgia’s most populous county, continues to grow with new details revealed in a State Election Board (SEB) meeting last Wednesday — and now, a week later, with an FBI raid seeking election documents from the county. 

Fulton County was notoriously plagued with issues like long lines and voting machine malfunctions in the 2020 primary election, problems The New York Times described as “a full-scale meltdown.” The problems continued through November’s Election Day and beyond, prompting concerns about votes being counted without proper supervision, among other things. The county’s repeated failures in 2020 so degraded trust in Fulton County’s ability to administer elections that the election director was forced to resign.

Now, members of the State Election Board have raised new concerns about the county’s administration of the 2020 election, revealing in last week’s meeting that the “tapes” used to verify that ballot counters started their counts at zero may be missing.

When a ballot scanner is used to count ballots, election officials must start the process by printing and signing a “zero tape,” which confirms the count started at zero. After counting ballots on the ballot scanner, officials must print and sign a closing tape, which confirms the final vote tally from that machine. In December, an attorney for Fulton County admitted that the county failed to sign off on more than 100 “tabulator tapes” — equivalent to about 315,000 votes — from early voting in the 2020 election. That admission was prompted by a complaint that was investigated by Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger’s office.

State law only requires the secretary of state to retain election documents for 24 months past the election, and local governments only retain “records related to the process of computing, tallying, and canvassing the vote” for two years, according to the Georgia Archives.

But, as Johnston noted in last week’s meeting, the complaint was submitted in early 2022, “well within the 24-month period.”

On Wednesday, a week after the SEB meeting, the FBI executed a search warrant at the Fulton County election office. According to election attorney Cleta Mitchell, the search warrant included “zero tapes” from the 2020 general election.

Meanwhile, the board is left with few answers. It’s unclear whether the tapes ever made it out of Fulton County, if they were signed, or even if they exist at all. If they do exist, they may have been handled properly but thrown away in the years since 2020. They could even still be filed away somewhere, where investigators have been unable to track them down. No one seems able to provide a paper trail.

The people responsible for the fraud probably figured that time would run out before their activities were discovered. Obviously, that is not the case. Hopefully, there will be enough trials and convictions to discourage anyone else from attempting to steal an election.
