Extortion Or Negotiation?

On Friday, The Daily Caller posted an article about the ongoing budget negotiations in Congress. The House of Representatives has passed a Continuing Resolution (CR) which represents a ‘clean bill’ which generally continues things as they are rather than adding additional items. Democratic Senator Chuck Schumer of New York is demanding some major Democrat additions to the CR that represent Democrat priorities in order to pass the CR (which needs 60 votes in the Senate). If the CR does not pass, the government shuts down.

The Daily Caller reports:

House Speaker Mike Johnson rejected Democratic Sen. Chuck Schumer of New York’s demand that Congress allocate $500 million for certain media outlets Friday, saying, “We’re not doing that.”

The House of Representatives passed both a short-term funding measure and a resolution honoring assassinated Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk on Friday. Democrats have demanded that the stopgap funding measure add over $1 trillion in funding for various priorities, including reversing the rescission of funds for public broadcasting.

…“He (Senator Schumer) also wants to make sure, he wants to reinstate health care to be provided free by American taxpayers for illegal aliens. We’re not going to do that either,” Johnson continued. “He also wants to add $500 million to prop up left-leaning media organizations. We’re not doing that either.”

The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) has identified $206 billion in savings since President Donald Trump took office on Jan. 20, despite drawing fire from Democrats over various cuts it identified, including the closure of the United States Agency for International Development.

A CR is not really the answer to America’s financial problem. We need to get back to the legal budget process. The Congressional Budget Process is supposed to involve individual budget requests for each area of the government. Those requests are to be passed individually. We have not correctly followed that procedure since 2008. It is time to get back to the way the law is written.

It’s Time For A Change

Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell’s term expires in May 2026. It’s a shame that he will be in charge until then. He claims to be apolitical, but his actions tell another story. On Saturday, John Hinderaker at Power Line Blog posted an article about Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell’s term.

The article reports:

We hear constantly about the importance of the independence of the Federal Reserve. Fine: but what if the Fed isn’t independent of politics, it is just independent of, and hostile to, the administration that is in power?

Some think that is the situation now before us. Stephen Moore comments on Fed Chairman Jerome Powell’s most recent pronouncements:

Fed Chairman Jerome Powell was full of doom and gloom yesterday [Wednesday], forecasting 1.6% growth for this year and closer to 1.5% next year.

Was he talking about Afghanistan or the United States?

In the second quarter of this year, the U.S. economy grew by 3.3%, and with a few weeks to go in the third quarter, the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta is forecasting above 3% growth – twice Powell’s anemic rate.

…Powell never mentioned that real household incomes are up $1,100 for the first seven months of 2025.

He attacks Trump’s tariffs and more restrictive immigration policies as restricting growth – and he’s right on that. But he never mentions the Trump tax cut, the immediate expensing for capital purchases (which has spurred an investment boom), the deregulations that could save up to $1 trillion this year, or that Trump’s pro-energy policies have increased U.S. production of oil and gas to record highs, or that the area where job growth is way down is in government employment – which is GOOD for the economy.

So Powell is hostile to the administration’s economic agenda, and–perhaps–has positioned the Fed in opposition to it.

Stephen Moore notes:

There’s also something almost comical of a Fed chair who let inflation soar by 21% and promised it was all “transitory” now terrified of an inflation rate of less than 3% this year.

The article notes:

Then, of course, there is the Fed’s Taj Majal, construction of which I believe President Trump has stopped. But that is a minor point, compared to the possibility that the Chairman of the Federal Reserve is actively trying to undermine America’s economic policies. That isn’t independence, it is partisanship.

If you are unfamiliar with the history of the Federal Reserve, please watch the video below about the history and purpose of the organization.

The Federal Reserve is not what we were told it is.

When Education Fails

Most of us are aware of the failure of our public education system to educate our children and prepare them to be successful in life. As we continue to point out the failure, we need to find a solution to something has been a problem for at least a generation.

On Saturday, Zero Hedge reported:

President Trump’s executive order earlier this year to dismantle the Department of Education comes as the president highlighted a disturbing and inconvenient truth about Baltimore City’s Democratic Party-runfailure factoryschool system: 40% of public high schools have zero students proficient in math. This damning statistic follows eight years of Fox45 investigative reporter Chris Papst’s coverage of the crime-ridden city’s education crisis. Keep in mind, the metro area is mainly controlled by leftists at City Hall, with virtually no diversity when it comes to Republicans holding positions of power.

A new report by Papst released this past week may catch the White House’s attention, highlighting yet another inconvenient truth about the stunning failure of Baltimore City Public Schools in terms of academic outcomes, proving that simply throwing more taxpayer funds at the problem is not a viable solution.

The article concludes:

Baltimore is an easy layup for the White House to convey to the American people during the Midterm election cycle just how terribly the Democratic Party has transformed once vibrant cities across America into what the president describes as “hellholes.”

What are the consequences of a failing education system? People who graduate from high school without basic skills in mathematics and English have a difficult time finding jobs. If they find jobs, chances are that they are low-paying and below what is needed to enjoy the basic necessities of life. This easily leads to discouragement and a search for other options to raise money–some of which may not be legal.

Improving our schools would be a step toward a safer, more productive society. Someone who knows that they need to be rested and sharp at their job in the morning is less likely to be out robbing people or stealing things in the middle of the night. I don’t want a federal takeover of education–we have already tried and failed at that. What I do want is for voters to hold every city’s leadership accountable for the condition of its schools.

Watching The Memorial

I am currently watching the memorial service for Charlie Kirk. There are a few things that stand out to me–a lot of the speakers are so young! These are young people who have a purpose and a goal. I am thoroughly impressed. These young people are dealing with grief–their boss was cut down by an assassin’s bullet in the prime of his life, but there are intent on carrying on his legacy. Actually, they are under the same threat that he was, but they are carrying on his work.

The service is focused on Christianity, as was Charlie. The speakers are sharing their grief and their purpose. They are calling for his mission to continue regardless of the risks and pushback from people who do not share conservative Christian ideas.

Turning Point USA was an antidote to the caustic culture of our time. TPUSA supported the values that formed America–strong families, Biblical morality, a strong work ethic, and civilized debate. Many of those values have been lost in recent years. The fact that Charlie Kirk was killed illustrates the fact that there are people in America who do not value civilized debate and are not interested in hearing what someone who does not agree with them has to say.

TPUSA impacted lives of young people and of older people. He introduced young people to the idea that having Jesus in your life provides a purpose, goals, direction, and blessings. Many of these young people had not grown up in the church, and what Charlie was preaching was new to them. We will probably never know how many young lives were turned around when the heard the Good News of Jesus.

I think the most amazing moment of the memorial service was Ericka Kirk stating that she forgives the man who murdered her husband. That is the message of Christianity–Jesus Christ went to the cross to forgive us; we are called to forgive others.

TPUSA will continue under the leadership of Ericka Kirk. As she walks through her grief, she will be responsible for carrying on the work her husband began. Millions of people are praying for her, and I am sure she will be successful in the task. Meanwhile, all of us need to recommit to living patriotic lives that are in accordance with Biblical morality. That is the appropriate response to the killing of Charlie Kirk.

Fighting A War With Economics

On Friday, Breitbart reported that U.S. Department of the Treasury is targeting financial institutions and businesses involved in laundering money for the Mayos faction of the Sinaloa Cartel.

The article reports:

The U.S. Department of the Treasury singled out several key leaders and businesses tied to the Mayos faction of the Sinaloa Cartel, including a former mayor in the Mexican state of Baja California. The move targets accounts and money laundering operations, including hotels, restaurants, and bars in the popular beach destination of Rosarito, Baja California.

In their most recent move, U.S. Treasury officials moved to sanction several key leaders of the Mayos faction of the Sinaloa Cartel and their businesses. The sanctions not only freeze any accounts and assets they may have in the United States but also prohibit U.S. citizens and companies from doing business with them. In June, U.S. Treasury officials took similar actions against the Chapitos faction of the Sinaloa Cartel.

The Sinaloa Cartel’s internal war erupted last year after Los Chapitos—sons of imprisoned kingpin Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán—allegedly orchestrated the arrest of longtime patriarch Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada, triggering a violent split between the cartel’s two dominant factions and reshaping Mexico’s criminal landscape.

The Trump Administration has labeled the Sinaloa Cartel as a foreign terrorist organization and accused it of being one of the leading producers and smugglers of fentanyl. Several members of the Sinaloa Cartel have pending indictments in the United States, not only for drug trafficking and money laundering charges, but specifically for fentanyl related cases.

In their most recent action, the U.S. Treasury listed Juan Jose “El Ruso” Ponce Felix as the leader and founder of the main armed wing of the Mayos. Earlier this week, the U.S. Department of State announced a $5 million reward for his capture.

Cutting off the money flow is not going to end either drug sales or human trafficking. However, making those businesses less profitable might slow their growth slightly. The only way to end drug dealing and human trafficking is to dry up the market. We need to work on that.

It’s Time To Pass An Audit

On Friday, Just the News posted an article about what is necessary for the Defense Department to pass an audit.

The article reports:

The Defense Department has been plagued by serious financial reporting issues that must be fixed for the agency to pass a full audit for the first time, the Government Accountability Office said in a new report.

“For the seventh consecutive year since the Department of Defense (DOD) was required to undergo full-scope audits, DOD received a disclaimer of opinion on its financial statement audit in fiscal year 2024, meaning DOD could not provide auditors with sufficient, appropriate evidence needed to support information in its financial statements due to ineffective systems and processes,” the GAO reported this month.

The National Defense Authorization Act for fiscal 2024 requires the agency to “receive an unmodified (clean) audit opinion by December 31, 2028.”

Despite the agency’s failure to pass a full audit, Congress again raised defense spending in fiscal 2025 to nearly $900 billion.

The defense budget could reach $1 trillion after an additional increase for fiscal 2026, based on President Donald Trump’s budget request.

The article concludes:

“DOD’s assets represent a significant portion of the federal government’s reported total assets. The ability to properly account for and report these assets would improve DOD’s ability to successfully carry out its mission and is critical to achieve an unmodified (clean) audit opinion,” the GAO report reads.

The Defense Department is the only major federal agency that hasn’t received a clean audit opinion on its financial statements.

“This not only impedes DOD’s financial transparency but that of the U.S. government as a whole,” the GAO said.

All government agencies should be required to pass an audit every year. A successful republic requires transparency.

Stumbling Toward A Government Shutdown

On Friday, Breitbart reported that the House of Representatives had passed the Continuing Resolution (CR) and passed it on to the Senate. The CR would keep the government funded until November 21. There are two bills proposed in the Senate to keep the government open–one by the Democrats and one by the Republicans. Both bills are expected to fail because 60 votes are needed to pass either one. Personally, I think the possibility of a shutdown depends on whether or not the Democrats think the media will join them in blaming the Republicans. If the Democrats believe that they will be blamed for the shutdown, there won’t be a shutdown.

The article reports:

Now the bill moves on to the Senate where it faces strong headwinds.

The Senate is expected to vote on two bills: first, a Democrat alternative to the CR that is a non-starter for Republican majorities in the House and the Senate as well as the Republican White House, followed by the House-passed CR. This two-step approach is designed to give appropriators more time to reach a bipartisan deal.

Both bills are likely to fail, with the Senate expected to recess afterward until September 29 — hours before the deadline of October 1.

The short-term CR expires November 21, using a tactic often employed by Congressional leaders to schedule must-pass votes before Thanksgiving or Christmas to encourage recalcitrant members to vote yes and return home for the holidays.

I have hope that someday Congress will get back to the budget process the law requires them to follow.

The Democrats Seem To Forget Their Own Recent History

On Thursday, Red State posted an article about some recent statements by former President Obama about cancel culture and Jimmy Kimmel.

The article reports:

With the news breaking on Wednesday Night that Jimmy Kimmel saw his late-night show suspended, there has been no shortage of voices of outrage from the left. The squealing and mewling over this has not been heard since way back to… about a month ago, when a similar amount of teeth-gnashing was taking place over Stephen Colbert getting canceled.

While I am no fan of seeing possible government leverage being applied to broadcasters over content, this is a result that the same wailing class has been attempting to provoke for years. Case in point: CNN’s media maven Brian Stelter has been weighing in (pun completely intended) on this suspension, and he is among the last who should be outraged. This is the same man who, years ago, was actively pushing not to silence one voice, but lobbied to have an entire network – Fox News – removed from our televisions.

…We will start small and with a dose of equivalency. While the press this year has been carping about the administration putting clamps on the White House press corps, it has been forgotten that this came into practice during the Obama years. His administration was prone to manipulating the official press pool reports being issued. (In one ironic example, his press secretary had a reporter strike the comment that after praising a free press in a speech delivered in Asia, Obama was blocking photo ops, during the same trip.)

Another frequent practice was freezing out the media throng entirely. He was not averse to having White House reporters whisked out as he was staging meetings. In what has to be the most ironic of examples, there was the time Obama was recognized with a transparency in government award, and he received the honor in a closed-door session with the press locked out.

…But during Obama’s term, he literally went after reporters. Fox News reporter James Rosen had his and his network’s phone records seized, as well as those of his parents. Government contractor Stephen Kim was jailed for sharing information with the reporter. And this was hardly an isolated instance involving the “scandal-free” president.

Former President Obama set the stage for the years of cancel culture we saw under former President Biden. What happened to Jimmy Kimmel was not cancel culture–it was a network realizing that he was a liability who might jeopardize some of their future plans. He was also making tasteless and inaccurate remarks and calling them comedy. Comedy used to be funny and not aimed at belittling anyone. Let’s get back to that.

There Is More To The Story

The firing of Jimmy Kimmel was a shock to some of us. His comedy has often bordered on inappropriate. I have mixed emotions about the Federal Communications Commission being involved in any way, but I have no problem with a private company taking whatever action they deem appropriate in dealing with someone who is part of their brand. However, there seems to be more to the story.

On Thursday, The New York Post reported the following:

Jimmy Kimmel’s comments on the murder of conservative activist Charlie Kirk weren’t just noxiously offensive and seemingly misleading — their timing was also incredibly bad: They threaten to derail Nexstar’s $6.2 billion takeover of rival broadcaster Tegna, telecom insiders tell On The Money.

The already controversial deal — which would combine two of the nation’s largest owners of local TV stations — poses significant antitrust questions and needs a close review by the Federal Communications Commission and its conservative firebrand chairman, Brendan Carr.

Kimmel’s comments made that approval even dicier. That’s why Nexstar publicly announced Thursday that its stations would no longer carry the show, telecom insiders tell On The Money. Ditto for ABC, which produces and distributes “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” to broadcasters like Nexstar — and likewise has business before the FCC.

Bob Iger, the CEO of its parent, Disney, was also quick to suspend the show indefinitely.

On Thursday, Sinclair Broadcasting — a rival local TV giant with a conservative bent — upped the ante even further, saying ABC’s suspension of Jimmy Kimmel was insufficient and announcing it will yank “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” from its stations until the host apologizes directly to Kirk’s family and donates to his political activist group.

The backdrop to all this is Carr, a longtime telecom lawyer who is the new sheriff of the broadcast industry. Carr has been warning networks large and small that he’s taking one of the most expansionary views of the agency’s regulatory edict to make sure programming is in the “public interest,” First Amendment concerns be damned.

Ultimately, the public will be the ones to decide what is acceptable on television. Generally speaking, when viewership drops, shows are cancelled. It is interesting that Jimmy Kimmel’s remarks were made at a time when a business deal was being discussed. I do wonder if he believed what he was saying or if he was simply repeating something he had heard. Either way, it was inappropriate.

Things You Shouldn’t Say In Public (Or On TikTok)

The 1819 News posted an article on Monday reporting that Lauren Ogen, a Capitol Heights Middle School teacher, who posted a video on TikTok video celebrating the killing of Charlie Kirk, has been placed on administrative leave. I can understand celebrating the death of someone like Adolph Hitler or Osama Bin-Laden, although I wouldn’t necessarily post a video of it, but Charlie Kirk never killed anyone, or as far as I can see, never ever raised his voice against anyone. Why, in the mind of this schoolteacher, did he deserve to die? Charlie Kirk believed in dialogue and debate. Isn’t that something this teacher should have been teacher her students?

The article reports:

Lauren Ogen, a Capitol Heights Middle School teacher, reportedly posted on TikTok that she told her daughter, “down with the bigots,” after learning of Kirk’s assassination while speaking at a college campus in Utah on Wednesday.

If she had bothered to do her own research, she would have discovered that Charlie Kirk was not a bigot.

The article notes:

We need this right now. We really need this right now. As a community, we need this. We need this win,” Ogen reportedly said on the video. “When we get home and (my daughter) does in fact confirm that he died, I said, ‘I hope it was traumatic and I hope he suffered, the way that we’re suffering because of the bigoted bullshit he spoke.’ Again, down with the dirty big heads and the bigots.”

Montgomery Public Schools superintendent Zickeyous Byrd said in an email obtained by 1819 News to MPS officials on Friday that the video by the Capitol Heights teacher “sparked community concern” and “violated district policy.”

“Out of an abundance of caution for both the safety of the teacher and the school community, I am placing the employee on administrative leave effective immediately. Furthermore, I will be recommending this teacher for termination at our next Board meeting,” Byrd said. “Please know that this decision was not taken lightly, but the seriousness of the policy violation combined with the safety concerns requires swift action. Our priority must remain on maintaining a professional, respectful, and safe environment for our students, staff, and community.”

My concern is also for the daughter she is raising–is she being taught to think or indoctrinated?

Honoring Antisemitism In Michigan

Many areas of Michigan have become Muslim enclaves. I have no problem with that as long as the Muslims who live there support the American Constitution and are making some effort to assimilate. Everyone who lives in America has the right to free speech, but our elected representatives also have the responsibility to promote speech that creates unity–not division.

On September 12, The Washington Free Beacon posted an article about Dearborn, Michigan, naming a street after a prominent newspaper publisher. Normally that wouldn’t concern me at all, but this publisher has an interesting history. The publisher is Osama Siblani, who has praised terrorists as ‘heroes’ and threatened to send Israeli Jews ‘back to Poland,’ accompanied Michigan governor Gretchen Whitmer on an official state trip to the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain

The article reports:

The city of Dearborn on Monday honored the Lebanese-born Siblani, a prominent anti-Israel activist who founded the Arab American News outlet, with a plaque bearing his name at the intersection of Warren Avenue and Chase Road, a location home to Middle Eastern-style bakeries, a hookah lounge, and the Islamic Center of Detroit. Video from the ceremony posted on the city’s Instagram account shows Siblani and supporters unveiling an honorary street sign with his name emblazoned across.

…During a September 2024 rally in Dearborn, when Israel was locked in a fierce fight against Hezbollah terrorists on its northern border, Siblani told a crowd chanting “death to Israel” that the terror group will “take care of the job” by eradicating the Jewish state, according to the Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI), which monitors radical activity.

Siblani later told the crowd: “To [Israeli prime minister Benjamin]  Netanyahu, who wants to bring [evacuated Israeli civilians back] to the north: We are going to take you back to Poland.”

At a 2022 “Nakba Day rally” meant to honor the “catastrophe” of Israel’s creation, Siblani said the Dearborn Muslim community will “lift Palestinians all the way to victory” and encouraged his supporters to “fight.”

Obviously, he has the right of free speech. Do we have to honor him and name a street after him? Is this the speech we want to honor?

When Groucho Marx Gets It Right

The video below is from the 1932 Groucho Marx movie “Horse Feathers.” It perfectly illustrates the situation described below the video.

On Wednesday, The Daily Caller posted an article about discussions currently going on in Congress about passing a Continuing Resolution (CR) to keep the government funded until November 21.

The article reports:

Democrats are pledging to vote against a GOP stopgap funding bill and plunge the country into a partial government shutdown, but have struggled to express what they dislike within the spending measure they are lining up to oppose.

The Daily Caller News Foundation (DCNF) spoke to 10 Democrats on Wednesday who railed against the seven-week funding bill — despite a majority of their caucus voting to extend government funding levels through short-term continuing resolutions (CRs) more than a dozen times when former President Joe Biden was in office. None could point to a specific provision within the 91-page bill they oppose.

“I’m not supporting the partisan CR,” Democratic California Sen. Adam Schiff told the DCNF on Wednesday as he made his way to an elevator following a Senate vote.

The DCNF then asked Schiff which provisions he opposed within the CR.

Schiff replied “Uh —” before letting the elevator doors close.

Speaker Mike Johnson unveiled a short-term CR on Tuesday to fund the government through Nov. 21. The measure would fund the government at current levels while providing for additional security assistance for all three branches of government in the aftermath of TPUSA founder Charlie Kirk’s assassination. The speaker could put the bill on the floor as early as Friday morning.

The article notes:

GOP leaders have argued they see no reason to negotiate on a “clean” short-term funding measure that has no partisan policy riders attached. They have also made clear that the CR will not be held hostage to Democrats’ demands for a healthcare policy bill.

“Republicans have deliberately chosen to keep this CR clean to ensure that there can be no possible reason for Democrats to object to funding the government,” Senate Majority Leader John Thune said on the Senate floor Wednesday. “There really is no possible way to call this a partisan CR with a straight face.”

Some Democrats have appeared to boil down their opposition to the CR to their animosity toward the president. Trump said Republicans should not work with Democrats to fund the government during a “Fox & Friends” interview on Monday.

“Donald Trump said he doesn’t want to work with us,” Democratic Hawaii Sen. Brian Schatz told reporters in the Capitol on Wednesday. “And so if he doesn’t want to work with us then I wish him the best.”

The above statement can be translated as “Donald Trump is not doing things our way!”

Were the Democrats willing to work with the Republicans when the Republicans were in the minority? Elections have consequences. If this shutdown happens, it will be on the backs of the Democrats despite the media’s efforts to portray it otherwise.

Placing The Blame On The Wrong People

Those who are protesting the Israeli incursion into Gaza need to remember the events of October 7, 2023. Up until that point, Israel was existing peacefully next to Gaza,  providing jobs for residents of Gaza who couldn’t find work in Gaza. On October 7th, many of those workers killed and tortured the people who were helping them feed their families. What kind of mindset does that? On October 7th, the paradigm changed–it became obvious that a two-state solution was not possible. You can’t live peacefully next door to people who want to kill you and steal your land. Unfortunately, there is a propaganda war that Hamas has been waging since that day that has been way too successful.

On Monday, The Associated Press reported the following:

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez on Monday called for Israel to be banned from sports events after pro-Palestinian activists disrupted the end of the Spanish Vuelta cycling race in chaotic scenes in Madrid.

Israel’s foreign minister responded by calling Sánchez an “antisemite and a liar.”

Tensions between the countries have escalated in recent weeks as Spain’s left-wing government expressed support for protesters who interrupted several stages of the Vuelta, including Sunday’s final stage in Madrid, because an Israeli team was taking part.

Speaking to members of his Socialist Party, Sánchez said Israel, just like Russia, should not be allowed to compete in international sports because of its military campaign in Gaza.

“The sports organizations should consider whether it’s ethical for Israel to keep participating in international competitions. Why expel Russia after the invasion of Ukraine and not expel Israel after the invasion of Gaza?” Sanchez said. “Until the barbarity ends, neither Russia nor Israel should be in any international competition.”

Notice that the pro-Palestinian activists disrupted things–not the Israelis. But in condemning Israel’s attack on Gaza, Sanchez says nothing about the people who baked babies in ovens, raped women, and celebrated murder on October 7. I have a problem with his double standard.

The article notes:

The Spanish government had already expressed sympathy with the protesters and suggested the Israel Premier Tech team should have withdrawn from the three-week-long race that became a diplomatic battleground.

Just for the record, Spain was one of the countries that voted to support a sovereign State of Palestine in a recent United Nations vote. These countries have bought into the Hamas propaganda. There will never be a peaceful Palestinian state–the goal of a Palestinian state is a one-state solution–no Israel. There will not be peace in the Middle East until the countries of the world figure that out.

Rewriting History

On Wednesday, Breitbart posted an article about a recent statement by former President Barack Obama. The headline of the article is “Obama Implies Trump to Blame for Charlie Kirk Assassination: ‘Extreme Views Were Not in My White House.’” Wow! Talk about not reading the room.

The article reports:

Obama was interviewed onstage by Steve Scully at the Jefferson Educational Society in Erie, Pennsylvania.

He mourned Kirk’s death, saying it was “horrific,” but made sure to recite an (inaccurate) laundry list of Kirk’s more controversial statements, including a false claim that Kirk claimed black women were stupid.

Obama then said that Trump wanted to use Kirk’s assassination as “a rationale for trying to silence discussion around who we are as a country and what direction we should go.” He then claimed that when he had been in the White House, “those extreme views were not in my White House. I wasn’t embracing them. I wasn’t empowering them. I wasn’t putting the weight of the United States government behind extremist views.”

In fact, it was Obama who inaugurated an era of division and extremism. On the campaign trail in 2008, he encouraged his supporters to confront friends and neighbors, and “argue with them, get in their face.”

As president, Obama backed the violent Occupy Wall Street protests. Most significantly, he fanned the Trayvon Martin controversy into a racially divisive crisis, turning to radical Al Sharpton — a demagogue so toxic that Obama had once refused to have anything to do with him, until he needed black support. Obama also embraced the destructive Black Lives Matter movement, which would go on to cause nationwide chaos.

The article reminds us:

In his remarks on Tuesday, Obama also praised moderate Republicans as an alternative to Trump, such as Utah Gov. Spencer Cox — forgetting that he had spurned even moderate Republicans like Paul Ryan. When Ryan, then the chair of the House Budget Committee, proposed reforming entitlements, Obama invited Ryan to a speech on the subject, and then condemned him, to his face.

Obama later said he regretted doing so, and that he did not realize Ryan would actually be in the room. But today Obama shows no such contrition about contributing to a toxic political climate in which the left, more than the right, feels violence can be justified.

President Obama began his political career as a community organizer. He never really left that role.

A World Upside Down

On Monday, The Gateway Pundit posted an article about ABC affiliate anchor Beni Rae Harmony. She resigned after being suspended for paying tribute to Charlie Kirk. There are a lot of stories about people who lost their jobs because they rejoiced at the death of Charlie Kirk, but this is the first I have heard about someone being fired for saying something nice.

The article reports:

Beni Rae Harmony was suspended after she delivered a heartfelt message to her audience after her “mentor,” Charlie Kirk, was gunned down.

“Effective immediately, I have resigned from @WICS_ABC20 after being SUSPENDED for airing a non-partisan tribute to Charlie Kirk this past Friday,” Beni Rae Harmony said.

…“Many in the mainstream media have been fired or punished for mocking his assassination. I believe I am the first to be targeted for honoring him on air,” she said. “My resignation is guided by values that are essential to who I am, which I refuse to set aside in order to keep a job. I choose my faith and love of country, and always will.”

“God Bless Charlie Kirk and his beautiful family, and God Bless these United States of America,” she added.

Does anyone else remember the get-along shirts that you would put siblings in together until they stopped fighting? I think America needs one of those.

Dealing With Cybersecurity Threats from China

Author:  R. Alan Harrop, Ph.D.

The liberal policy of dealing with the threat from communist China by opening up free trade and granting most favored nation status, like most leftist policies, is clearly not working. The idea was that if we treated the Chinese communist government like friends, they would see the error of their ways and become allies. China instead has become more belligerent and adversarial, and is clearly intent on becoming the world’s superpower and replacing American democracy with communism. They continue to take steps to weaken our influence and that of other democratic countries while aligning themselves with Russia and North Korea. China’s continuing support of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine is all the proof needed. Our economic policies have enabled China by to become the second largest economy in the world. The Chinese ever-expanding military is poised to exceed our military capability. We have been played for fools.

China believes in the concept of all-encompassing war, not just direct military action. For example, China continues to encourage and support the illegal flow of fentanyl into the U.S. which kills more people each year than died in the Korean and Vietnamese Wars combined. Another critical part of their plan is the war on cyber systems which are increasingly essential the operation of any modern society. Since Kevin Mandea, special cyber expert to the Air Force, several years ago detected and reported the Chinese cyber campaign that breached the security of 27 U.S. military bases with the aid of Chinese students at a west coast university, communist China continues to expand its hacking of essential cyber systems here in the U.S. While much of the hacking was initially directed towards private companies wanting to do business in China, the focus recently has been directed at critical infrastructure systems, such as transportation, oil pipelines, and the electrical grid. China’s goal is to develop the ability to shut down the internal systems essential to our country and thereby intimidate us into compliance with their objectives.

In 2015, when Xi Jinping assumed leadership in China, he pledged that China would become the superpower in cyber space. He has fulfilled that promise with expanded funding and training of enormous numbers of cyber experts far exceeding the number of such experts in the U.S. Paul Rosenzweig, a cyber expert and former assistant secretary in the Department of Homeland Security, recently told the Epoch Times newspaper that even though our cyber experts may have greater capability, we have 100,000 and they have a million.

In 2023, Microsoft dubbed the communist Chinese campaign as the Volt Typhoon. They reported that since 2021 they have been increasingly active against critical U.S. infrastructure. In 2024, FBI Director Christopher Wray testified before congress that Volt Typhoon was “pre-positioned for disruption.” It was also reported that China was using its manufactured consumer electronic devices, such as Wi-Fi routers, computer servers, and cameras, to create a network to carry out cyber espionage operations.

As we can see, the threat from China is abundantly clear. So, what do we do about it? Fortunately, we have in President Trump a leader who recognizes the threat. Shortly after his inauguration this year, he re-emphasized the need to “mitigate, deter and defeat foreign adversaries in cyber, including China.” He also made similar commitments during his first administration. Not responding to China (and Russia) will just encourage them to continue. For example, what was the response from the Biden administration when China sent a spy balloon across our country–silence. This is unacceptable. It just showed weakness.

So, we need to retaliate in kind. Let them know that we have a system to attack their cyber systems if we are attacked. This is called deterrence–a tactic that was used during the cold war with the Soviet Union. We also need to address the reality that China is using the over 300,000 Chinese students attending our universities as potential espionage agents. Do we seriously believe that communist China funds these students to attend our universities because they cannot obtain a quality education in China? Or, as the leftists would have us believe, that they want their students to learn how a free and democratic country operates? They are being, and will continue to be, used to obtain research and technical information that China can use against us.  They should all be sent back to China, which would also permit the admission of over 300,000 Americans to these universities which we as taxpayers are funding in large part. Expanding the number of Chinese students as President Trump has mentioned should not be done.

Our lawmakers must get serious about the reality of the threat posed by China not only in the cyber area, but in other areas of concern. For example, China owning agricultural land in our country must be stopped and reclaimed. Also, allowing China to own the largest pork producing company in the U.S., Smithfield, is totally absurd and should also be undone. It is past time that we stand up and defend our interests before it is too late.

Sometimes It Takes A While To Get To The Right Answer

On Tuesday, The New York Post reported that Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis will not return to the case against President Trump for election interference.

The article reports:

Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis on Tuesday lost her bid to get back on the Georgia election interference case against President Trump and his allies.

The embattled prosecutor was booted from the high-profile case by the Georgia Court of Appeals in December, which cited the “appearance of impropriety” over her affair with the special prosecutor Nathan Wade leading the case.

Georgia’s top court said Tuesday that it would not consider reversing a lower court’s ruling.

The article notes:

“Willis’ misconduct during the investigation and prosecution of President Trump was egregious and she deserved nothing less than disqualification. This proper decision should bring an end to the wrongful political, lawfare persecutions of the President.”

The Peach State’s highest court declined to review the case in a 4-3 vote; one judge didn’t participate and one judge was disqualified.

There are records showing that she paid her boyfriend much more than the other attorneys working on cases in her department and that he had no background in handling the case he was given. There are also questions about how much of the extra she paid him funded luxurious vacations. She should be taken off the case.

Putting Back The Firewall

I will admit that I have never before heard of the Smith-Mundt Act (officially the United States Information and Educational Exchange Act)). This Act was passed in 1948 and allowed the U.S. government to conduct foreign propaganda campaigns, radio, film, exchanges, cultural outreach, aimed at influencing foreign populations during the Cold War.

On Monday, The Gateway Pundit posted an article about the Act, reporting the following:

But the law contained one critical safeguard: propaganda made for foreign audiences was forbidden from being used inside the United States. Washington could not psy-op its own people. This firewall stood for more than six decades.

In 2012, tucked into the National Defense Authorization Act for FY2013, Congress passed the Smith–Mundt Modernization Act, introduced by Representative Mac Thornberry (R-TX) and signed by Barack Obama on January 2, 2013.

It shredded the firewall and legalized domestic distribution of State Department and U.S. Agency for Global Media (formerly Broadcasting Board of Governors) materials.

By July 2, 2013, it was official: U.S. citizens could now be subjected to the same government-crafted propaganda once reserved for foreigners.

Seven months ago, investigative watchdog Mike Benz revealed to Joe Rogan in an interview what really happened with the Smith-Mundt Modernization Act of 2012.

Obama’s “modernization” wasn’t modernization at all; it was the effective repeal of Smith–Mundt, a deliberate move to unleash the State Department, CIA, and USAID’s propaganda weapons on the American people.

The article notes:

Utah Senator Mike Lee announced he will soon introduce groundbreaking legislation to restore the original protections of the Smith-Mundt Act—and he’s renaming it the “Charlie Kirk Act” in honor of the conservative leader assassinated just days ago.

“In the coming days, I’ll be filing my previously drafted legislation to restore Smith-Mundt, and renaming it the Charlie Kirk Act. Domestic, political, government-funded propaganda must end now,” Lee wrote on X.

We have seen the results of government propaganda in recent years. The Smith-Mundt existed from 1948 until 2013 without being used against American citizens. It’s time it was either repealed or brought back to its original form. The change in that law is one more example of the damage done to our Republic by both the Executive Branch of Government and the Legislative Branch of Government during the Obama administration. In a free republic, the government should not be allowed to spew propaganda at the voters.

Stay Vigilant

On Sunday, Fox 13 in Utah reported that two men were arrested for leaving an incendiary device under a Fox News 13 vehicle.

The article reports:

MAGNA, Utah — Two men have been arrested after allegedly leaving an incendiary device underneath a FOX 13 News vehicle and then forcing an evacuation of a Magna neighborhood when the FBI served an overnight warrant on their home.

The men, Adeeb Nasir, 58, and Adil Justice Ahmed Nasir, 31, were booked into jail and face multiple charges, including Threat of Terrorism, Possessing Weapons of Mass Destruction, and Possessing Explosive Devices.

An X post by Collin Rugg reports:

Adeeb Nasir, 58, and Adil Justice Ahmed Nasir, 31 have reportedly been arrested.

The Salt Lake City Police Department Bomb Squad and the Unified Fire Authority Arson/Bomb Squad say a real explosive device was found under the vehicle.

“Police say they found the device placed under a news media vehicle parked next to an occupied building and determined it to be a real explosive device. It “had been lit but failed to function as designed,” according to the affidavit,” KSL reported.

The article at Fox News concludes:

The men were located at the home, and during the search, told investigators that “two hoax weapons of mass destruction” that officials discovered were “real,” the arrest report stated.

Because of the devices, the home was evacuated, as well as nearby homes in the neighborhood.

Although the warrant was issued for the search of evidence related to the incendiary devices found under the FOX 13 News vehicle, law enforcement officials “observed additional contraband and evidence of crimes outside the scope of the original warrant, to include firearms and firearm related items, explosives and explosive-related components, illegal narcotics and associated paraphernalia, as well as electronic devices reasonably believed to contain evidence” of the original device that was discovered.

According to the Salt Lake City Police Department, both men had a protective orders that prohibits them from possessing firearms.

“FOX 13 News is working closely with law-enforcement and our risk management team, with the safety of our employees as our top priority,” said FOX 13 Station Manager Leona Wood.

One of the men is listed as born in Utah; the other man is listed as having been born in Pakistan.

Look For This Man On The 2028 Presidential Ticket

It is very likely that JD Vance will be the Republican candidate for President in 2028. The Democrat candidate field is a lot more complicated. To name a few possible candidates, I expect to see Gavin Newsom, Mark Kelly, and Josh Shapiro. However, there is someone else quietly making moves who would be a much more viable candidate.

On Sunday, Hot Air reported the following:

One month later, another survey by the Journal showed that people are losing faith that they will achieve the American dream in their lifetime — and worse, they fear it will even be further out of reach for their children and grandchildren. This sentiment should concern leaders in both parties but in particular the Democrats, who have bottomed out with appealing to the middle-class voter.

No Democrat cringes more at those stats than former Illinois congressman, White House Chief of Staff and Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel. Twenty years ago, he led the Democrats’ takeover of the House, and he is widely rumored to be considering a run for his party’s nomination for president in 2028.

Many smart Republicans will tell you privately that of all the folks throwing their name around as possible contenders, it is Emanuel, a brilliant political animal and tactician, whom they fear the most. Why?

Well, there is likely an entire generation of Democrats and journalists who might not know this, but his 2006 midterm election strategy of picking centrist candidates to run for the House in states such as Pennsylvania, Ohio and Tennessee in Republican-leaning districts gave his party the gavel for the first time in a dozen years.

Emanuel said in our interview that the survey numbers from the Journal told him a few important things but one above all: that Democrats really need to start addressing that it is unacceptable for the American dream to be inaccessible to so many.

Rahm Emanuel is a political force to be reckoned with. He is quietly preparing a path to the Democrat nomination for President. He is presenting himself as less radical than the other candidates and attempting to bring the Democrats who have defected to President Trump and Vice-President Vance back into the party. Actually, he is as radical as anyone in the current Democrat Party. Remember, he was a major player in the Obama administration that laid the foundation for a lot of the problems we have now–he was part of the group that enabled the government takeover of healthcare. He will bring back the days of racial division and unequal justice. Be aware that he is on the hunt for the nomination.

Wisdom

Sean Ono Lennon posted a comment on X about Charlie Kirk’s death.

This is part of that comment:

There is a famous quote falsely attributed to Voltaire that however does sum up a principle of enlightenment philosophy, ‘I disagree with what you say, but I would die to defend your right to say it.’

The ideas of people like John Locke and Voltaire and Thomas Paine are what lead to the American Revolution which then inspired the French Revolution. They introduced the World to the idea that individual rights were important and should be protected from Monarchs (tyrants and dictators), and ultimately led to the idea that a country should be governed by its people NOT by the Church and NOT by a King.

If citizens don’t protect and respect each other’s right to disagree, then we cannot have a democracy. If we do not protect our right to disagree then we’ll get violence.

We do NOT want a society where violence is the way we win arguments, because then nobody wins. Everyone loses.

We are ALL losing right now. The whole society is losing together. Losing to violence. It’s unbelievably sad. It took so much work to get us here. We can’t throw it all away like spoilt children.

I did NOT agree with Charlie Kirk’s views on MANY important topics. I know he helped get Trump elected and people hate him for that. But he was a conservative Christian. What do you expect a conservative Christian to believe? How can those views surprise you? He argued those views calmly, reasonably, and considerately as far as I’ve seen.

But no matter what he did not deserve this. His wife did not deserve this. His kids did NOT deserve to have their world torn apart!

I probably disagree with Sean Lennon on most things, but there is a tremendous amount of wisdom in this statement. Certainly, Sean Lennon understands the impact this event has on Charlie Kirk’s family. We can all learn to work together peacefully.

However–just for the record–America is a Republic–not a democracy.

New York City Has About Seven Weeks To Wake Up

The mayoral election in New York City will be held on November 4th. If things continue as they are, Zohran Mamdani will be the next Mayor of New York City. I hope New York City residents look at where his campaign money is coming from before they vote.

On Saturday, The New York Post reported:

Deep-pocketed, out-of-state donors account for 78% of the nearly $2.4 million raised by a super PAC backing Zohran Mamdani’s NYC mayoral campaign.

Lefties outside the Empire State wrote fat checks totaling $1,831,706 to the group, New Yorkers for Lower Costs, as of Friday, records showed.

The sum included $762,631 from 26 California donors, with most of it coming from just two people.

“Mamdani’s campaign isn’t about New York City — it’s about fueling a national socialist movement bankrolled by donors in California and beyond … with Hollywood and out-of-state activists trying to dictate the future of our city,” said Mayor Eric Adams’ campaign spokesman Todd Shapiro.

The article includes the following chart:

Why is so much out-of-state money coming into his campaign?

The article notes:

In comparison, a superPAC supporting ex-Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s mayoral bid called “Fix The City” has pulled in more than $20 million – or 74% — of its $27.1 million in donations from New Yorkers.

The “Empower NYC” superPAC supporting Mayor Adams’ re-election bid has seen $1,347,600 – or 92% — of its $1,462,600 donations come from the Big Apple.

Money doesn’t buy elections, but it plays a role. If money bought elections, Hillary Clinton would have been President. I am hoping that the difference in contributions from residents of New York predicts voting totals. However, the contribution numbers show that New Yorkers are split, which may give Mamdani a victory.
