Rules For Thee, But Not For Me

There has been an awful lot of discussion lately about racism. In some areas of our society, people are actually moving back to segregation. Some of our colleges now have exclusive dormitories for minority students. Back in the twentieth century that was illegal. It should also be noted that Country Clubs and certain exclusive clubs have generally ended exclusive policies prohibiting blacks and Jews from joining. President Trump literally fought City Hall to make Mar-a-Lago open to membership for blacks and Jews (article here). However not all clubs have embraced the idea of membership for everyone.

Yesterday MRC TV posted an article about Democrat Senator Sheldon Whitehouse and a club he belongs to. The club is an ‘all-white’ exclusive club.

The article reports:

Nearly four years ago Democratic Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (RI) claimed “it would be nice if they changed a little bit,” when asked about the all-white Bailey’s Beach Club of which he’s a member.

This past weekend, GoLocal asked if any new minority members had been admitted over the last few years.

“I think the people who are running the place are still working on that and I’m sorry it hasn’t happened yet,” Whitehouse replied.

…Whitehouse has been outspoken on the issue of systemic racism, claiming that America must “root out systemic racism in its many forms and meet America’s full promise of justice for all.”

GoLocal notes that Bailey’s Beach Club is not considered an average private club, it has been described as the most exclusive club in America.

I would have more faith in his statements that America is racist if he began to change his own behavior to be more inclusive. Discrimination based on race is against the law. Where is the Rhode Island Attorney General?

Stating the Obvious

The Conservative Daily News posted an article today detailing the six blatant and dangerous lies told by President Biden. I have posted the list below. Please follow the link to read the details.

The list:

#6: There is no border crisis, and this surge in migrants “happens every single, solitary year. Nothing has changed.”

#5: “I have this strange notion…[that] we are a democracy…[there are] things you can’t do by executive order unless you’re a dictator. We’re a democracy. We need consensus.”

#4: It is time for corporations and the richest Americans to “start paying their fair share.”

#3: The Biden administration inherited a “nonexistent coronavirus vaccine distribution plan.”

#2: Wearing masks is “a small precaution to take that has a profound impact. It’s a patriotic responsibility for God’s sake.”

#1: “It was a murder in the full light of day, and it ripped the blinders off for the whole world to see the systemic racism…that is a stain [on] our nation’s soul.”

There are some basic problems with these lies. Most of them create division within our nation. Most of what President Biden has done in office he has done without Congress and definitely without bothering to work with the Republicans. He has made little or no effort to build consensus. Unfortunately the mainstream media happily ignores these lies and the damage they are doing to our nation.

Exactly What Is Our History?

Scott Johnson posted an article at Power Line Blog today refuting the often made claim by the left that America is a systematically racist nation. Among other things, the article notes that the United States is alone in the history of the world in its foundation on the principle of equal rights.

The article quotes “Original intent and the American soul.” by Harry Jaffa (paragraphs added for clarity by Scott Johnson):

In 1987 Justice Thurgood Marshall refused to celebrate the bicentennial of the Constitution because, he said, it was a racist document that enshrined slavery. Quoting Chief Justice Taney in Dred Scott v. Sanford (1857), he said that the original Constitution regarded black people “as so far inferior that they had no rights that white people were bound to respect.” It is this view of the Constitution that has justified liberals, in their own minds, in rewriting the Constitution to conform to their own opinions of what it ought to be….

The original Constitution, and hence original intent jurisprudence, can only be defended if one distinguishes the principles of the Constitution from the compromises of the Constitution. The framers made concessions to slavery because they believed that the Constitution would not be ratified without them.

Had the Constitution not been ratified, slavery would have been in a far stronger position. Instead, the new Constitution created a government strong enough to deal with slavery when the crisis finally came. Moreover, the future of the Union as a guardian of the cause of human freedom throughout the world depended upon this distinction between the Constitution’s principles and its compromises.

But the Constitution itself does not make this distinction. Although it guarantees to every state of the Union a republican form of government, it does not say what the principles of this form are. These principles are spelled out in the Declaration of Independence, which the United States Code lists as the first of the Organic Laws of the United States.
