Selective Memory On Display

Yesterday The Daily Caller posted an article about political violence in America. Townhall also posted an article yesterday that included President Biden’s comments on political violence in America.

Townhall reported on President Biden’s speech:

During his remarks, which were made without glaring communist red lights and U.S. Marines standing the background, Biden made a number of references to January 6 and the nudist attack on Paul Pelosi. He then oddly attempted to portray himself and Democrats as unifiers interested in getting along with their political opponents.

Biden then falsely accused Republicans of oppressing voters. Currently in Georgia, voter turnout has hit records rivaling presidential election levels after Republicans passed voter integrity laws in the state last year.

That doesn’t sound like someone who is seeking unity.

The Daily Caller reported:

The media appears to have rediscovered political violence the morning of October 28 when news broke that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s husband Paul was attacked by a hammer-wielding mad man in their California home.

The Daily Caller provides a list of attacks on Republicans that the media has conveniently ignored or forgotten:

Fire-bombings at Pro-Life Pregnancy Centers

Lee Zeldin Attacked

2020 Summer of Riots

Violent Would-Be Attack on Brett Kavanaugh

Congressional Baseball Game Shooting

I would like to add two more. On October 27th, The New York Post reported that Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene has experienced sixth “swatting” episodes since August. Yesterday Breitbart reported that Republican Gen. Don Bolduc was physically attacked by an unknown individual before the Wednesday debate with Democrat Sen. Maggie Hassan.

If the President keeps telling Americans that Americans who support President Trump are a threat to our democracy (we are not a democracy–we are a representative republic), what does he expect?

Avoiding The Mistake Of The Wellstone Memorial

What happened to Paul Pelosi was awful. No one should be attacked by a person with a hammer in their own house. There are a lot of questions as to exactly what went on, but for the moment I am going to avoid them.

The media and many in the Democrat Party have used the attack to condemn the Republicans for ‘hate speech’ which they deem responsible for the attack. But let’s look at some of the recent statements and actions of Democrats.

In June 2018, CNN reported:

The California Democrat (Maxine Waters) and vehement critic of President Donald Trump made the comments on Saturday, first at a rally in Los Angeles and later in a television interview. The comments, which come after several Trump administration officials have been recently protested at restaurants, have raised fresh questions about the state of American political discourse and were seized on by Trump for political gain.

“Let’s make sure we show up wherever we have to show up. And if you see anybody from that Cabinet in a restaurant, in a department store, at a gasoline station, you get out and you create a crowd. And you push back on them. And you tell them they’re not welcome anymore, anywhere. We’ve got to get the children connected to their parents,” Waters said at the Wilshire Federal Building, according to video of the event.

Was that hate speech? When Steve Scalise was shot by someone who worked on the Bernie Sanders campaign, was that hate speech?

Politicizing the Paul Pelosi attack is risky on many levels. There are too many unanswered questions about the attack–why were the security cameras turned off, how did the attacker get into a community with its own security force, why didn’t the security system react, why was the glass broken from the inside and the fact that the attacker was an illegal alien with no conservative political ties.

Democrats would do well to remember the Wellstone Memorial–not one of their finer moments.

In 2002, The New York Post reported:

WHAT possessed them? How could Minnesota’s Democrats have been so foolish as to turn a memorial meeting for eight people tragically killed in a plane crash into a campaign rally for the United States Senate?

The Paul Wellstone memorial pep rally will be recorded as one of the supreme mistakes in recent political history – an entirely avoidable and unnecessary fiasco.

Just how big a fiasco? Jesse Ventura, the state’s independent governor, said he felt “violated” by the four-hour event. Ventura said he was considering the appointment of a non-Democrat to fill out the remainder of Wellstone’s Senate term, which lasts until the beginning of the new year.

That’s very significant. Why? Because the U.S. Senate will be meeting again after Election Day in a lame-duck session that will last four weeks or so. If Ventura’s lame-duck appointment were to line up with the Republicans, he would throw them control of the Senate for the first time since 2001.

Turning a tragedy into a political event can easily backfire. The Democrats need to be very careful in handing the attack on Paul Pelosi. (Just as a side note–Ted Kennedy was supposed to be on the airplane with Paul Wellstone, but decided at the last minute not to take the plane.)

I Really Don’t Expect To See This In The Media

On Saturday, PJ Media reported that the man who attacked Paul Pelosi had no discernible political agenda. He was not some off-the-wall conservative–he wasn’t even an off-the-wall democrat. I am still trying to figure out how he got into a gated neighborhood, past an alarm system, and possibly past guard dogs. There are some very odd aspects to this story.

The article reports:

I regret to inform the meme makers, the narrative builders, and all those involved in the herculean effort to make Paul Pelosi’s attack suspect into a stand-in for the right-wing boogeyman, the after-party has been canceled.

The pathetic human known as David DePape was, until recently, a public backer of Black Lives Matter and LGBTQ causes. At least, that’s what we can surmise by surveying his “home” in Berkeley. DePape had a “Black Lives Matter” sign in the window and an LGBTQ rainbow flag, emblazoned with a marijuana symbol, hanging from a tree outside his house.

Author Michael Schellenberger describes the scene outside DePape’s residence and took a dive into his social media to — not surprisingly — come up with a far different portrait of Pelosi’s attacker than the already-set narrative being pushed by the mainstream media.

…I am going to repeat this again because it continuously fails to get through on the left and the right: Mentally ill people do not have “political agendas.” They have “visions.” They have “delusions.” They see things. They hear things. There is no left. There is no right. There are only the voices in their heads, and to believe otherwise is to prove that you should join them in the asylum.

These pathetic human beings can be dangerous, and most should not be left unsupervised. But the notion that they are warriors for Antifa, QAnon, or MAGA is bats**t crazy.

The article concludes:

Indeed, as Schellenberger so eloquently points out, the “drug problem” has become a “mental health problem” and has naturally progressed to become a “homeless problem.” There’s no separating any of it, and it starts in the statehouses and mayor’s offices run by radical left politicians.

That, we can blame on politics. Bad politics, suicidal politics. And trying to distract from the real political problems created by radical Democratic politicians by blaming Republicans for the pathetic ramblings of a psychiatric, incoherent homeless addict only highlights the Democrats’ disgrace.

Whatever was going on in that house–it was not political.

What Insider Trading?

Oh to have the stock trading success of Paul Pelosi. On Tuesday, Just the News reported that Paul Pelosi (husband of Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi) just made a really smart stock purchase.

The article reports:

Paul Pelosi, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s husband, purchased between $1 million and $5 million of stock in a semiconductor company ahead of an upcoming vote on legislation containing $52 billion for chipmakers — the latest in a long history of similar purchases.

…Pelosi’s husband made headlines when he purchased a substantial amount of tech stock last year under his wife’s speakership. Pelosi made millions on “timely” bets with Big Tech stock buys in advance of an antitrust bill that was moving through the House, according to a Fortune report from July 2021.

The antitrust legislation ultimately stalled, but Pelosi tech stock buys have continued throughout this year. In March, the speaker disclosed that her husband bought Apple as well as Disney and PayPal shares.

Retail traders track Pelosi’s trades to “find winners,” Yahoo reported.

The article notes:

There are several bills still pending in Congress that impose some form of a ban on lawmakers making individual stock purchases, but some would not cover spouses.

Peter Schweizer, author of the 2011 book “Throw Them All Out,” was instrumental in educating the public about the lack of stock trading laws applicable to members of Congress. After his book was published, Congress passed the STOCK Act, and former President Obama signed it into law. The bill is designed to prevent insider trading, but it doesn’t ban members of Congress or their spouses from buying individual stocks. Under the bill, lawmakers are required to file financial disclosure reports that show the purchases made.

Schweizer has long called on Congress to prohibit lawmakers and their spruces [sic] from trading individual stocks.

The article concludes:

Pelosi’s office has said she had “no prior knowledge” of her husband’s stock purchase.

“The speaker does not own any stocks,” said Pelosi spokesman Drew Hammill, according to FOX Business. “As you can see from the required disclosures, with which the Speaker fully cooperates, these transactions are marked ‘SP’ for Spouse. The Speaker has no prior knowledge or subsequent involvement in any transactions.”

The legislation with the funding for chipmakers is designed to shore up America’s semiconductor supply chain to better compete with China. The House passed its version of the America COMPETES Act earlier this year. The Senate passed their own version last June. A conference committee is preparing the final legislation, which could be voted on as early as this week.

I think Martha Steward should ask for her jail time back.
