We Don’t Need To Import Criminals–We Have Enough Already

On Tuesday, The New York Post posted an article about a recent U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) operation in New York City. I will admit that some of the people coming here illegally are simply good people looking for a better life. However, there are other people who have come here illegally that need to be deported quickly.

The article reports:

ICE nabbed nearly 2,200 illegal migrants, including convicted murderers, rapists and drug traffickers, in New York in the past month alone — and more agents and sweeps are on the way, the feds said Tuesday.

The Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency caught up to 2,197 criminals in the Empire State between July 27 and Aug. 29 as part of “Operation Rotten Apple” — which Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin noted was conducted “with no help” from either New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani or Gov. Kathy Hochul.

“These arrests included gang members, rapists, murderers and child predators — which I believe there is a special place in hell for those individuals,” Mullin told reporters at a press conference.

“Operation Rotten Apple did what sanctuary politicians in New York City and the state of New York refuse to do: made the Empire State safer,” he added in a statement. 

The article concludes:

“Democratic politicians in New York and elsewhere say that they care about public safety, but won’t let immigration law enforcement officers into their jails to take criminals into custody, instead they release them to their streets,” said Trump administration border czar Tom Homan in a statement.

Mullin said the federal government should not send a single cent to New York until it complies with immigration authorities. President Trump is looking into options, he said.

“I don’t think we should be sending one federal penny to sanctuary states and sanctuary cities. And I know President Trump is looking at options there. In my opinion, I don’t think taxpayer dollars from the great people of Oklahoma or any other red state should be funding a state that embraces these criminals like New York,” Mullin said.

Some of the amenities given to the illegals who came to New York City were totally ridiculous and created problems for the residents of the City. Upscale hotels became places where tourists were afraid to go. The quality of life in New York City suffered because of the Sanctuary City policies. It’s good to see the people who were committing crimes removed.

This Seems Totally Logical

On Monday, CBS News posted an article about the Trump administration’s effort to revoke the citizenship of 17 U.S. citizens accused of immigration fraud.

The article reports:

Officials said the move represents the largest-ever effort by the U.S. government to use its denaturalization powers, which were rarely invoked before President Trump returned to the White House last year with promises to launch a historic deportation blitz. Between 1990 and 2017, the Justice Department filed an average of just 11 legal complaints per year seeking to denaturalize American citizens, historical figures indicate.

Federal law has long allowed the government to try to denaturalize foreign-born U.S. citizens who officials believe committed fraud to obtain their citizenship, such as by concealing information, like criminal conduct, on their immigration applications. But the process has been historically lengthy, complex and seldom exercised, requiring officials to persuade judges to strip naturalized citizens of their citizenship in civil or criminal proceedings in federal court. 

The Trump administration has sought to vastly escalate denaturalization efforts as part of its larger crackdown on illegal and legal immigration. In 2025, the Justice Department broadened the categories of naturalized citizens who should be prioritized for denaturalization. Last month, officials announced a dozen denaturalization cases, at the time the largest such effort in years.

Some of the 17 citizens targeted in the latest denaturalization campaign were convicted of violent or serious crimes, including sex offenses against children. Others were convicted of fraud crimes or accused of committing immigration fraud. 

Why in the world would we want people who lied to get into America and then committed other crimes to stay here? If we put them in jail (where they belong for their crimes), we have to support them. Why not send them back to the countries they came from?

The article concludes:

Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin said the Trump administration would “continue to use every lawful avenue to denaturalize and remove aliens.”   

“American citizenship is a privilege, and it must be earned honestly. If you come here, break our laws, and lie in your immigration proceedings, you forfeit that privilege,” Mullin said.

The denaturalization process allows the targeted citizens to challenge the government’s filings to try to retain their citizenship. If U.S. citizens are denaturalized, they return to their prior immigration status, typically as permanent U.S. residents, and lose all the legal benefits of American citizenship, including protection from deportation.

Character should matter when granting citizenship.
