Who Is Voting In America?

On Friday, Breitbart posted an article about America’s voter rolls.

The article reports:

President Donald Trump released documents on Thursday evening that detail problems with the nation’s election system, including revealing that a portion of foreign nationals are illegally registered to vote.

The document, which focuses on noncitizen voting, was posted to the White House website. Multiple investigations from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the document states, have exposed that more than 250,000 foreign nationals are illegally registered to vote in California, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Nevada alone.

“State election officials in California, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Nevada have been notified of this serious threat to national security and DHS stands ready to support their efforts to identify and remove ineligible registrants,” the document states:

The investigation is expanding to include multiple additional states. In addition, DHS will support the Department of Justice’s review of voter files obtained pursuant to their enforcement authority under the National Voter Registration Act of 1993 and the Help America Vote Act of 2002. [Emphasis added]

The article concludes:

Most recently, Judge Sparkle Sooknanan, appointed to the United States District Court for the District of Columbia by former President Joe Biden, issued an order to prevent the Trump administration from using the streamlined version of the SAVE system.

“There is an undeniable pattern emerging as DHS begins to unravel the horrific damage done by the open border policies of the Biden administration,” the document concludes. “States that have adopted alien-first policies instead of American-first policies have a disproportionate number of non-citizens on their voter rolls.”

People vote for their own interests. People who are here illegally are often here simply to collect American safety-net benefits. Americans are a generous people, but they are also a practical people. We have an obligation to take care of our citizens before we take care of anyone else. When Americans who pay taxes are in the majority, theoretically there will be different priorities.

The Need To Start From Scratch

In December 2025. the U.S. Supreme Court heard arguments in Trump v. Slaughter.

The SCOTUSBlog reported at the time:

On Monday, Dec. 8, the Supreme Court will hear oral arguments in Trump v. Slaughter, a battle that has been brewing, on one hand, since soon after President Donald Trump took office in January and, on the other hand, for years. At the center of the battle are laws that limit the president’s ability to fire the heads of independent, multi-member federal agencies like the Federal Trade Commission. The president and his supporters are proponents of a doctrine known as the “unitary executive” theory – the idea that the president should have complete control over the executive branch. Under this theory, the president should be able to fire any member of the executive branch, and laws – like the one at the center of this case – that restrict his ability to do so violate the constitutional separation of powers between the three branches of government.

In June, the Court rejected President Trump’s attempt to fire Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook, but allowed the President to fire Rebecca Kelly Slaughter, a member of the Federal Trade Commission.

That decision allowed the President to fire the remaining members of the Election Assistance ​Commission.

On July 9th, Just the News reported:

President Donald Trump on Thursday night reportedly terminated the members of the Election Assistance ​Commission, which is an independent commission that assists election administration officials nationwide. 

All three of the remaining commissioners were removed in some way, according to Reuters, with the two Democratic commissioners, Thomas Hicks and Benjamin Hovland, notified by email. The Republican commissioner, Christy McCormick, was allowed to resign.

The Election Assistance Commission is an independent agency of the United States government created by the Help America Vote Act of 2002.

The article concludes:

The firings leave the four-member commission with no commissioners, meaning it cannot take official action until new members are installed. The fourth member, a Republican, had left voluntarily earlier this year, according to USA Today. 

Commissioners are required to be nominated by the president based on recommendations from the Republican and Democratic leadership in the House and Senate, and no more than two commissioners can serve from either party at a time.

I am not exactly sure what this Commission is supposed to be doing, but if their job is in any way related to maintaining election integrity or maintaining accurate voting roles, they are not doing their job.

A Refusal To Admit The Obvious

On Wednesday, The Federalist posted an article about the ongoing discussion of the integrity of the 2020 election in Fulton County, Georgia.

The article reports:

At the center of that effort in Georgia was Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger. He repeatedly assured voters there were no problems — no violations, no misconduct, nothing to see — publicly stating there was “no sign of widespread fraud” during Georgia’s election process, refuting claims of irregularities in a letter to Congress, and again asserting that officials had not found systemic fraud.

…But just last month, Fulton County — Georgia’s most populous county — admitted that approximately 315,000 early ballots in the 2020 election were counted without the required poll worker signatures, a clear and direct violation of state regulations. County officials have further acknowledged they do not dispute that those ballots were improperly certified.

The article notes that Secretary of State Raffensperger has not cooperated with the investigation:

In December, the U.S. Department of Justice sued Georgia, seeking access to voter registration records amid concerns about whether the state is complying with federal election laws meant to prevent voter fraud and ensure only lawful votes are counted. According to the Justice Department, those records are necessary to evaluate compliance with the National Voter Registration Act, the Help America Vote Act, and the Civil Rights Act of 1960.

Raffensperger has refused to provide the records, arguing that doing so would require releasing sensitive personal information — a claim the Justice Department disputes, noting that federal law permits review of voter rolls with appropriate safeguards in place.

The article concludes:

Federal officials have been explicit about the consequences of refusing transparency. “At this Department of Justice, we will not permit states to jeopardize the integrity and effectiveness of elections by refusing to abide by our federal election laws. If states will not fulfill their duty to protect the integrity of the ballot, we will,” said Dhillon.

President Trump was right to demand answers. The American people were right to ask questions. And Georgia deserves accountability — which Raffensperger must finally face.

It seems like almost a give that the 2020 presidential election was stolen. We can’t undo that. The question is whether or not anyone will ever be held accountable.

The Search For An Honest Election

It seems as if much of the worrying about an honest election is on one side of the aisle. However, one Democrat is taking the concern seriously and doing something about it. Just the News posted an article (updated today) about Representatives Tulsi Gabbard (a Democrat from Hawaii) and Representative. Rodney Davis, ( a Republican from Illinois) sponsoring a bill that seeks to outlaw the practice of ballot harvesting, a growing practices especially among Democrats in which third parties distribute and collect ballots in an effort to grow the vote.

The bill is HR8285. The Congressional website describes the bill as follows (I am not giving the specific address because the links expire–just put in the bill number to find more information):

To amend the Help America Vote Act of 2002 to prohibit payments under such Act to States which permit ballot harvesting, and for other purposes.

The text and summary of the bill are not yet available. The website reports that HR 8285 was introduced on September 17, 2020 and referred to the House Committee on House Administration on that date.

The article at Just the News reports:

Their bill would cut federal funding from states that don’t ban ballot havesting. “No one should get between a voter and the ballot box,” Gabbard said.

…In an accompanying video message, Gabbard said ballot harvesting “allows for abuse from third parties collecting and mishandling ballots” and “poses a serious threat to the integrity of our elections.”

The Democrats control the House of Representatives. It will be interesting to see if this bill ever makes it out of committee. Meanwhile, I am grateful for a Democrat that is at least willing to make an effort to deal with the problem.
