The Cost Of The Trans Fad

On Saturday, The New York Post posted an article about Miles Yardley, formerly a very successful New York City model.

The article reports:

In Catholic churches across Manhattan and Brooklyn, Salomé captivated the congregation, uplifting the faithful with her soulful singing and skilled organ playing. The New York Archdiocese Organist Training Program enrollee’s musical gifts had her booking gigs across the city.

But for years, Salomé’s bashful smile and angelic voice concealed a secret — one not even known in the shadows of the confessional. She was a he: Salomé was born Miles.

His story is one that’s becoming all too familiar: A child with unconventional interests, swayed by strange ideologies on the internet, is hustled by doctors into a life of medical dependency — only to find himself questioning everything years later.

“They very quickly put me on hormones without really any discernment. Looking back, if I were a doctor, I would think this is a much larger decision than the kid thinks that it is,” he tells The Post.

Miles Yardley, as his female persona Salomé, arrived in the Big Apple in 2022 from his native Pennsylvania. He (then she) quickly became the toast of New York’s downtown fashion scene.

Yardley signed a modeling contract, was featured in a Marc Jacobs perfume ad shot by famed photographer Juergen Teller, exhibited for Enfants Riches Déprimés, and strutted Fashion Week runways for designers Batsheva and Elena Velez — all while singing in parishes and mentoring Catholic schoolchildren in music.

Soon Yardley was a regular bohemian socialite, a fixture on podcasts, was even flown to Romania to meet the Tate brothers, with virtually everyone unaware of Salomé’s secret.

The article concludes:

As for those doctors, Yardley is surprisingly merciful. “I don’t believe, as a Christian, that people are setting out to do evil for evil’s sake. I don’t think anyone has that in their heart,” he said.

“But I think it has a lot to do with an overreach of professionals and a lot to do with money. Hospitals make a lot of money from these procedures. They benefit from having lifelong patients, which is what transgender people are. You need the hormones to maintain the identity.”

If he could go back, would he change any of it? “There’s no way to live your life without making mistakes or going down the wrong path,” Yardley says.

“My life would be totally different if I made different decisions at 15 years old, so I can’t really conceive of a different path. I don’t live in a regret state. In many ways, I’m extraordinary lucky.”

He does, however, wish that doctors would learn to be more open-minded.

“If you’re a gender-nonconforming kid, you should be allowed to be yourself. I think that was the biggest problem. I didn’t feel like I could be confident in who I was. And if that person happens to like singing and dancing and cooking and Barbie dolls, who really cares? You can be a boy who likes that,” Yardley says.

“At the time, nobody in my life told me that was possible.”

A Permanent Solution To A Temporary Problem

Transgenderism is the current fad sweeping the world. It has greatly impacted children and young adults in America and in other countries. Some parents have gone along with or even encouraged their children to undergo medical procedures or drug regimens that will impact them for the rest of their lives. Some of the changes that are made are irreversible and result in the children involved not being able to bear children or father children as adults. Unfortunately, an eleven-year-old child may not be equipped to make such a life-changing decision, and the decision may cause a lot of sorrow down the road. Yesterday (updated today), The U.K. Daily Mail posted an article about a recent study in the Netherlands about transgenderism in children and young adults.

The article reports:

The majority of gender-confused children grow out of that feeling by the time they are fully grown adults, according to a long-term study.

Researchers in the Netherlands tracked more than 2,700 children from age 11 to their mid-twenties, asking them every three years of feelings about their gender.

Results showed at the start of the research, around one-in-10 children (11 percent) expressed ‘gender non-contentedness‘ to varying degrees.

But by age 25, just one-in-25 (4 percent) said they ‘often’ or ‘sometimes’ were discontent with their gender.

The researchers concluded: ‘The results of the current study might help adolescents to realize that it is normal to have some doubts about one’s identity and one’s gender identity during this age period and that this is also relatively common.’

The article includes the following chart:

If you have a child starting down this road, please reconsider the long-term effects of any medical actions you might take.

The article also includes the following chart:

The article concludes:

Dr Jay Richards, director of the Richard and Helen DeVos Center for Life, Religion, and Family, told DailyMail.com: ‘We’ve known for over a decade that most kids who experience distress with their sexed bodies resolve those feelings after they pass through natural puberty.

‘Indeed, we can infer from the DSM 5 [2013] and other sources that as many as 88 percent of gender-dysphoric girls and as many as 98 percent of gender-dysphoric boys in previous generations desisted if allowed to go through natural puberty.

‘These two facts make it clear why “gender-affirming care” on minors is such an outrage. It leads, in the end, to sterilization and in many cases to a complete loss of natural sexual function.

‘There is no good evidence that this helps minors long term. Moreover, it medicalizes what could very well be temporary psychological symptoms.

‘History will judge this medicalized “gender-affirming care” on minors as we now judge eugenics and lobotomies.’

The research was published in the journal Archives of Sexual Behavior.

How will the children whose bodies have been surgically altered feel when they mature and realize the mistake they have made?

Pushing Back On Bad Medicine

On of the most frightening trends right now is the increase in the number of young children and teenagers who believe that they are in the wrong body with the wrong sex. Part of that trend is due to social media and the lies told there, and part of that trend is due to the normal confusion of puberty. On Wednesday, The Federalist posted an article showing some of the problems with the narrative that transgender medical procedures are a good thing.

The article reports:

The truth about transgenderism is coming out. On Monday, Michael Shellenberger released a multitude of internal files from the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH) that “prove that the practice of transgender medicine is neither scientific nor medical.” WPATH has been accepted by the political, cultural, and medical establishments as the authority on transgenderism, but what its members say in private is not the narrative they sell to the public.

Instead of the rigorous, careful, evidence-based medicine that champions of “gender-affirming care” claim to practice, the WPATH files show doctors who are making it up as they go along, smashing through guardrails even though they know that the children they are chemically and surgically altering cannot really give informed consent. And people are noticing.

No wonder the transgender ideologues are worried. The public has proven more resistant than they expected, especially regarding radical policies such as putting men in women’s prisons and girls’ locker rooms, let alone sexually mutilating and sterilizing children. And transgender activists and their allies have no response except to repeat their same failed arguments, just louder.

…From puberty blockers to hormones to surgeries, transition is never medically necessary. Transitioning does not cure any disease or correct any physical ailment or injury. Rather, the point of medicalized transition is to disrupt and destroy the normal functioning of healthy bodies.

The article notes:

Therefore, it is not only reasonable, but imperative, for legislators to rein in the transgender industry, and especially to stop the “transitioning” of children. Ulrich and other activists can fulminate about right-wing conspiracies, but it is right and just to ban the surgical and chemical mutilation of children. Many states have done so, thereby proving that gender ideology will not inevitably triumph and claim our children for its own.

It’s time that parents and grandparents demand that children be protected from unnecessary medical procedures that will have life-long consequences.

Let Children Be Children

I was a tomboy as a child–I played softball, I climbed trees, I roller skated, I was always moving. I am sure many of the women who are reading this could say the same thing. Thank God no one ever tried to convince us that we were boys. I wonder if it’s safe to be a tomboy today.

On Friday, Townhall reported the following:

At this point, nothing should be shocking regarding the Biden Administration, not even when it means pushing young kids to undergo life-alternating procedures.

Assistant Secretary of Health for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Rachel Levine promises that medically changing children’s gender will be fully “normalized” soon.

And if that isn’t twisted enough, Levine continued to say that “gender-affirming” treatment of transgender kids is supported “at the highest levels” of President Joe Biden’s administration.

“I can say that the children, their families, and you all as their providers have support at the highest levels of the federal government,” Levine said while speaking at the Pediatric Grand Rounds session in Hartford. “President Biden supports you … Vice President [Kamala] Harris supports you. Across the administration, the departments support you,” Levine said, adding that she talks “about this topic everywhere I go.”

The woke Biden official claimed that critics who aim to end the progressive push of transgenderism on minors are “ideologically and politically motivated,” calling them “unconscionable.”

The article notes:

Levine claimed that “gender-affirming” care is necessary and that hormone and puberty blockers are safe and effective, although research supporting this idea is extremely weak.

However, critics are pushing back against the Left’s radical push to indoctrinate children.

Rep. Andy Harris (R-Md.), a House Doctors Caucus physician member, told Fox News that it is “reprehensible for a government official — let alone the assistant U.S. secretary of HHS — to promote the genital mutilation of minors as becoming a standard practice.”

The inmates are running the asylum.

Sanity From The Medical Profession

On Thursday, The  Epoch Times posted an article about a recent statement by the Association of American Physicians and Surgeons (AAPS).

The article reports:

The Association of American Physicians and Surgeons (AAPS) is warning about “unknown and unknowable long-term risks” it says are inherent to “gender-affirming care” in minors, adding that the consequences of gender transition surgery are irreversible.

“Gender-affirming” procedures include so-called puberty blockers, sex hormones, and surgery, such as castration, penectomy, and mastectomy, the nonpartisan professional association noted in its Feb. 20 official statement outlining its stance on “gender-affirming care” for children.

The AAPS warns that gender transition procedures are “generally irreversible and have a high probability of causing sterilization.” The procedures also “commit a patient to a lifelong need for medical, surgical, and psychological care.”

Such procedures in minors also are medically and ethically contraindicated due to a lack of informed consent, the AAPS stated.

“Physicians and medical professionals should refuse to be mandated or coerced to participate in procedures to which they have ethical or scientific objections or which they believe would harm a patient.”

Founded in 1943, the organization represents doctors in all specialties nationwide and seeks to preserve the practice of private medicine. Over the years, the group has been a strong proponent of patient autonomy and freedom of discourse in medicine.

The article notes:

The association maintains that while medical, surgical, and other methods can be used to alter the physical appearance of a person’s body, they can’t change a person’s biological sex.

Biological sex is determined at conception by genotype, and with the exception of rare circumstances that could result in ambiguous genitalia, biological sex is “indeed obvious” and is correctly identified at birth, the AAPS states.

Biological sex, or genotype, then determines the role of a person in reproduction.
