Why We Need Welfare Reform

Michigan is taking steps to reform its welfare program–on Friday the state announced its plan to drug test welfare recipients. Yesterday Breitbart.com posted a story showing how much the food stamps program is impacting the state.

The article reports:

Michigan, which announced on Friday plans to begin drug testing some welfare recipients, currently has 1,679,421 individuals on food stamps (known officially as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP), according to the U.S. Agriculture Department. According to the Michigan Department of Education, the state’s total pupil count for K-12 is 1,564,114.

Michigan’s food stamp program has struggled to combat fraud and abuse. As recently as last week, for example, three brothers pleaded guilty for their roles in a food stamp fraud scheme at the Middle Eastern Market in Grand Rapids, Michigan, that cost taxpayers $1,278,700.

This year, Michigan’s food stamp program cost taxpayers $2,576,165,148.

It is becoming very obvious that one way to stop runaway spending on both the federal and state level is to combat welfare fraud.

The Basics Of ISIS

One of the things Vince Lombardi was remembered for is a speech he gave to the Green Bay Packers after they lost to a team that they should have easily beaten. The morning after the loss, he called a practice. As his team (normally a championship team) sat there, he picked up a football and said,“Okay, we go back to the basics this morning. . . . Gentlemen, this is a football.” Sometimes it is a really good idea to get back to basics.

Breitbart.com posted an article today listing seven facts about ISIS (Islamic State of Iraq and Syria) that every American should know.

Here is the list:

1. ISIS Began in the 1990s

2.  ISIS is Led by a Man Released from a U.S. Detention Camp in 2009

3.  ISIS is the Richest Terror Organization in the World

4.  The Number of ISIS Fighters Has Tripled to 31,500

5. ISIS has an Estimated 2,000 Westerners in its Ranks

6.  ISIS Now Controls 35,000 Square Miles in Iraq and Syria

7.  In Addition to Beheadings, ISIS Has Carried Out Mass Executions and Rapes

Please follow the link above to the article at Breitbart.com to read the details. ISIS is a serious threat to Western Civilization. It would be to our advantage to recognize that fact.

The Gosnell Movie Will Be Made

Breitbart.com is reporting today that the filmmakers of the Gosnell movie have reached their $2.1 million goal on the indiegogo website, and will be able to make the movie. See rightwinggranny.com for previous information on this project.

The article at Breitbart.com reports:

The movie will focus on Gosnell’s horrific actions in connection to his 40-years operating an abortion practice. The atrocities reported during his trial were mostly ignored or downplayed by national news outlets. That, in part was why the filmmakers behind the project were motivated to create the film. They also want people to remember the lives lost at the hands of the Philadelphia abortionist.

“The media and Hollywood normally love serial killers. There are movies and whole TV series devoted to the genre but for some reason there were no plans to tell the truth about Kermit Gosnell and his crimes. We were determined to change that and to show that their was a public appetite for this truth to be told and that’s why we decided to crowdfund the project,” filmmaker Phelim McAleer said in a statement.

I wonder if all the people who are fighting for ‘the right to choose’ understand the repercussions of setting no limits on that right.

Eventually The Truth Comes Out

In 1998 Matthew Shepard was murdered near Laramie, Wyoming. The press immediately dubbed it a hate crime and called for laws against hate crimes. There was much talk about homophobia, intolerance, etc. Well, not so fast. A book is coming out next week entitled, “The Book of Matt.” The book was written by Stephen Jiminez, who has interviewed over 100 people including Shepard’s friends, friends of the killers, and the killers themselves.

Breitbart.com posted an article about the book yesterday. The book tells a different story of the murder of Matthew Shepard than the one we were told in 1998.

The book relates the following:

But what really happened to Matthew Shepard?

He was beaten, tortured, and killed by one or both of the men now serving life sentences. But it turns out, according to Jiminez, that Shepard was a meth dealer himself and he was friends and sex partners with the man who led in his killing. Indeed, his killer may have killed him because Shepard allegedly came into possession of a large amount of methamphetamine and refused to give it up.

The book also shows that Shepard’s killer was on a five-day meth binge at the time of the killing.

So what’s the point? Whether or not it was a hate crime, Matthew Shepherd is still dead. Why do the details matter?

Another article posted yesterday at Breitbart.com tells us why the details matter:

A piece in the gay culture magazine The Advocate by Aaron Hicklin lays out the facts about the Shepherd mythology, but it also contains a line that is the Rosetta Stone to understanding how leftist narrative mythology is so pervasive in both the arts in journalism. Despite the clear evidence that the story that Shepard was done in by deadly homophobia was inaccurate and that Shepard was instead killled in a meth-fueled bender by another man who was bisexual, Hicklin states:

There are valuable reasons for telling certain stories in a certain way at pivotal times, but that doesn’t mean we have to hold on to them once they’ve outlived their usefulness.

That is an amazing statement. Unfortunately our mainstream media has lost any respect it might have had for the concept of truth. We are being fed garbage in order to evoke a particular reaction–whether or not what we are being told is true.

The second article I cited at Breitbart.com talks about other cases where the media has ignored the facts in favor of a political agenda. I strongly suggest following the link and reading the entire article. News consumers need to be aware of the aims of those reporting the news. We cannot blindly accept everything we are told.

Some Pictures From The Latest Jobs Report

On August 29, Breitbart.com posted a story about the current labor force participation rate. The chart below tells the story:

Although the unemployment numbers look good, they don’t tell the whole story:

The labor force participation rate is the lowest it has been in 34 years.

The article at Breitbart contains this rather chilling quote:

“Following the Great Recession, we’ve entered into the Great Shift,” says Express Employment Professionals CEO Bob Funk, who previously served as chairman of the Kansas City Federal Reserve Bank. “This is a period defined by the Boomer retirement, Millennial frustration, and growing reliance on government programs. All indicators suggest this shift is not sustainable.” (emphasis mine)

The economic policies of the Obama Administration have not worked. If President Obama will not reverse them, we need to elect people who will. Our future depends on it.
