I think the fuss about the reflecting pool is totally overblown, but that won’t stop me from weighing in!
On Thursday, an article at Front Page Magazine reminded us:
Let’s flash back to the normal way that the media covered this same situation when it happened during the Obama administration.
The National Park Service has once again drained the reflecting pool in front of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington to clean up an algae buildup that formed after a $34 million overhaul.
Park service spokesman Carol Johnson says the pool was drained and was being cleaned Thursday. It will remain empty for at least a week.
Algae and scum have been covering parts of the pool since it reopened. It had been closed for a two-year renovation and was reengineered to draw river water from the Tidal Basin instead of city drinking water. The system is supposed to filter and circulate the water to keep it cleaner than in the past.
None of the 2012 stories even mentioned the Obama administration, let alone blamed Obama personally for algae in the pool and no Republican senators popped up to demand Obama personally reimburse the country for the $34 million renovation.
Let’s fast forward to today to some information that has recently come out.
On June 26th, Just the News reported:
Details of the alleged vandalism to the recently refurbished Reflecting Pool in Washington, D.C. were revealed in a court filing.
According to Deputy Director for the National Park Service Frank Lands, the incident took place shortly after the resurfaced pool was filled again with water on June 9, ABC News reported.
“The U.S. Park Police responded to an NPS report of damage to the reflecting pool, including a caulk over the foam sealant that was cut with a sharp knife or razor and destruction of delaminating surface material. In addition, approximately 70 fence post tops were thrown into the pool,” Lands said in a declaration.
I don’t claim to be an expert, but that sounds like vandalism to me.
The point here is not the reflecting pool–it’s the way the media reports things. There are probably about four investigative reporters I trust–John Solomon (Just the News) is one of them. If you are depending on the mainstream media for you news, you are being lied to and misinformed every day. It’s time to do your own research.
