Posted on Facebook today by Senator Rand Paul. Let’s not forget that although getting Americans out of Afghanistan has to be a priority, there are other issues:

Who doesn’t like a good piece of cheese? Whether its cheddar, Swiss, provolone, or simply American cheese, everybody has their preference. And thanks to USAID, your new favorite might eventually be from Sjenica, Serbia! That’s right! USAID spent part of a $22 million “Sustainable Local Development Project” training the staff at the Regional Center for Agricultural Development (RCAD) in Sjenica, Serbia, to follow the cheese standards of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and help producers adopt best practices. USAID reports the head of the center as stating, “Our ultimate goal is to be able to guarantee the Sjenica cheese standards and quality to the consumers in the EU, US, and further.”
What tangible skills did USAID help impart? Well, “RCAD’s staff was trained to introduce and implement ISO standards, to properly sample milk and meat products at local farms, to calibrate laboratory equipment, and to advise farmers on improving the safety and quality of their products,” a company that implemented the overall Development Project reported. “The project also trained 30 dairy and livestock farmers and processors on how to improve production practices and meet laboratory standards,” they noted, going on to also say it “engaged a local backstopping expert to assist the laboratory staff during critical phases of the accreditation process. …”
In recent years on the domestic side, the U.S. has been experiencing a massive, historic cheese surplus, one that would eventually hit 1.4 billion pounds — which NPR noted in its report “means that there is enough cheese sitting in cold storage to wrap around the U.S. Capitol.” So American dairy farmers dealing with the realities of this situation might be cheesed off to learn their government worked to strengthen competition and the European cheese market — using their own tax dollars to boot.

More Good News From The Middle East

The Israel National News is reporting today that Serbia is going to move its Israeli Embassy to Jerusalem.

The article reports:

US President Donald Trump on Friday oversaw the signing of an agreement between Serbia and Kosovo that normalizes economic relations between the two countries and also includes Kosovo recognizing Israel and Serbia relocating its embassy in Israel to Jerusalem.

The relocation of Serbia’s embassy to Jerusalem is expected to take place by July 2021.

“Truly, it is historic,” Trump said during the signing of the Belgrade-Pristina deal. “I look forward to going to both countries in the not too distant future.”

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu spoke with Trump and Kosovo’s Prime Minister Avdullah Hoti as Hoti was meeting with Trump. The Kosovo Prime Minister, for his part, said that Kosovo, too, will open an embassy in Jerusalem.

“Kosovo will be the first Muslim-majority country to open an embassy in the city,” Netanyahu said. “As I have said in recent days – the circle of peace and recognition of Israel is expanding and more countries are expected to join it.”

Netanyahu also congratulated Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic on his decision to relocate his country’s embassy to Jerusalem.

The article concludes:

A statement from Netanyahu’s office praised Serbia for being the first European nation to agree to move its embassy and said efforts continued to convince other European nations to do so as well.

Netanyahu said that following discussions held in recent days between the Foreign Ministry, National Security Council and others, it was decided that Israel will establish diplomatic relations with Kosovo.

Wow. President Trump has done amazing things in the Middle East.

My Hero Has Been Arrested

Vit Jedlicka has been arrested by Croatian authorities and charged with trespassing. On April 17th, I posted a story about Mr. Jedlicka and his founding of Liberland, an unclaimed terra nullius territory wedged between Serbia and Croatia. Well, someone in the Croatian government did not approve of Liberland.

Fox News is reporting today:

“The president of the self-proclaimed micro-nation of the Free Republic of Liberland, Vít Jedlička, has been arrested by Croatian police for illegally trespassing an international border,” read the statement. “The arrest may have taken place on no man’s land territory. This would raise issues on the Croatian-Serbian border and could start a new crisis in the Balkans.”

That is too bad. I would have joined him had he chosen a nice desert island.
