We Have Reached Total Insanity

The execution of Army Maj. Nidal Hasan has been scheduled for December 3rd. Initially it was going to be livestreamed, but that has been changed. Major Hasan is not a sympathetic character to me, but I guess to some people he is. On November 5, 2009, at Fort Hood, Texas, Major Hasan opened fire. He killed thirteen soldiers, one of whom was pregnant, and wounded 32 people. He was stopped by a base police officer who shot him twice in the leg. He has been in a wheelchair ever since.

On Friday, Breitbart posted an article about New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherrill’s comments on the upcoming execution.

The article reports:

On Friday’s broadcast of MS NOW’s “The Weeknight,” New Jersey Gov. Mikie Sherrill (D) discussed the now-canceled plans to publicly stream the planned execution of the Fort Hood shooter and said that soldiers are going to be told, “you’re going to go shoot this guy who’s in a wheelchair.” And “there are going to be people receiving these orders to the firing squad who are going to, for the rest of their lives now, have to carry that burden.”

Sherrill said, “I think the thing, as I think about it, that just keeps breaking my heart, imagine the 20-year-old, imagine, maybe, the 18-year-old, that stepped up to serve, that gets orders and says, you’re going to go shoot this guy who’s in a wheelchair. Imagine feeling like, I don’t know what to do here. And I think there are going to be people receiving these orders to the firing squad who are going to, for the rest of their lives now, have to carry that burden.”

Somehow I think her sympathy is misplaced. What about the people Major Hasan shot who are still dealing with injuries as a result of being shot? Why does the shooter (because he is in a wheelchair as a result of his own actions) deserve more sympathy than the families of the people he murdered? I think New Jersey needs a new governor.
