When Your Past Actions Come Back To Haunt You

We all remember when in 2022 fifty illegal immigrants showed up on Martha’s Vineyard and were escorted off of the island in record time. The residents of the island claimed that it was a ‘humanitarian crisis’ that they were there.I guess being a sanctuary island only works when no one can get to you easily. Well, the actions of the residents of the island need to be remembered in light of recent events.

On Tuesday, Red State posted an article explaining that the residents of the Island are now planning to resist President Trump’s efforts to send illegal aliens home.

The article quotes Breitbart:

Residents of the wealthy, liberal enclave … defended illegal aliens as the Trump administration has ramped up deportations.

Several older residents of Martha’s Vineyard reportedly attended a rally, with some people holding signs that read, “I pledge to resist,” and “Protect people, resist hate,” according to the MV Times.

[…]

One rallygoer, Marina Kaufman told the outlet that they “have to protect” illegal aliens, citing how “they are part of the workforce of the Vineyard.”

“We have to protect these people because they are part of the workforce of the Vineyard,” Kaufman said. “And they’re human beings. They have children in schools, they’re scared. And it breaks my heart, it really does.”

They are resisting what they actually did a few years ago! They only want to protect illegal aliens when they are not on their island!

The article notes:

Meanwhile, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt told reporters last Tuesday that all illegal aliens are criminals because they illegally entered the United States after a reporter asked, “How many have a criminal record versus those who are just in the country illegally?”

Leavitt responded:

All of them because they illegally broke our nation’s laws, and therefore, they are criminals, as far as this administration goes. I know the last administration didn’t see it that way, so it’s a big culture shift in our nation to view someone who breaks our immigration laws as a criminal, but that’s exactly what they are.

We seem to have forgotten that breaking the law should involve penalties. Otherwise, what incentive is there to follow the law?

This Is What Spin Looks Like

On Wednesday, MSN posted the following headline:

Republicans renew efforts to limit people in US illegally from census count

The article reports:

Republican efforts to exclude people in the U.S. illegally from numbers used to divvy up congressional seats among states have begun anew, with four Republican state attorneys general suing to alter the once-a-decade head count even before President Donald Trump’s second term in office began Monday.

Trump joined in the battle immediately upon returning to office, signing an executive order on Monday that rescinded a Biden administration order and signaled the possibility of a push by his new administration to change the 2030 census. Those efforts may get a boost from the GOP-controlled Congress, where Republican U.S. Rep. Chuck Edwards from North Carolina earlier this month re-introduced legislation that would put a citizenship question on the census form.

During his first term, Trump signed an order that would have excluded people in the U.S. illegally from being included in the 2020 census numbers used to allot congressional seats and Electoral College votes to each state. The GOP president also mandated in a second order the collection of citizenship data through administrative records. A Republican redistricting expert had written that using citizen voting-age population instead of the total population for the purpose of redrawing congressional and legislative districts could be advantageous to Republicans and non-Hispanic whites.

This is not political, regardless of who benefits–it is common sense. In a representative republic, who is represented?

The question here is rather obvious, “Who are our Congressmen (and women) supposed to represent?” If a district gets an extra representative or two because of people who are non-citizens and are here illegally, the representation for people who are citizens is impacted. For example, California gets one of two extra representatives because of the number of illegal aliens that live there. Since there are only a limited number of representatives (435), a state with more citizens and fewer non-citizens will not get as many representatives. American citizens are entitled to representation in Congress. Non-citizens are not. There is no country in the world with a democracy or representative government that has a government that represents people who are not citizens. This is common sense, and the representation for illegal aliens and non-citizens needs to end.

Don’t Mess With New England Sports Fans

I lived in New England for 45 years, 35 of them in Massachusetts. I was there for the glory days of the Bruins and the Red Sox and the Tom Brady years. I can honestly say that New England sports fans are a breed of their own. Massachusetts is also a Democrat stronghold. George W. Bush didn’t even establish a campaign headquarters in my area when he ran for President! Well, sports fans and politics are about to have a major clash.

On Thursday, Todd Starnes reported the following:

Hundreds of Army and Navy football fans were booted from their hotels to make room for illegal aliens. And a good many veterans and service academy graduates were among those displaced.

It’s the big story Massachusetts where the government ordered hotels to cancel reservations for the upcoming football game at Gillette stadium.

Massachusetts has a “right to shelter law.” That means homeless people and illegals must have a place to stay.

Some 70,000 fans are expected and hotel rooms are a hot commodity.

One state lawmaker noted the irony that the home of the New England Patriots can’t find rooms for people that fought for the country because the state had to make room to take care of people who invaded our nation.

“We have veterans and military families being moved out of their reservations because illegal immigrants are living in the motel,” State Rep. Steven Xiarhos told me.

“They’re estimating about $45 million a month have is being spent,” he said. “Now, I’m on the Ways and Means Committee and I’m proud to be on that committee as well as Veterans Affairs Committee and Public Safety. Those are some of the committees I’m on. And, you know, this was never really planned on or budgeted.”

The article ends with a quote from State Rep. Steven Xiarhos:

“So they’re getting incredible benefits based on the Right to Shelter law,” he said. “Meanwhile, I have veterans in my district that are homeless.”

This is a classic example of the difference between America First and America Last. To borrow a phrase from Tom Bodett — When it comes to veterans and service academy graduates – America First will leave the light on for you.

This isn’t the first time the Democrats have taken hotel reservations away from the people who made them. In 2004, all of the law students who had made hotel reservations (up to a year in advance) to take the bar exam in Boston were kicked out of their hotel rooms to make room for the Democrat Party Convention. The students were then housed in the various colleges around the city which was okay, but they had made the hotel reservations first!
