Getting Rid Of The Department Of Education

On Friday, Just the News reported that Ohio Republican Representative Michael Rulli will introduce legislation to allow President Trump to shutter the Department of Education through Congress. I can’t imagine that legislation going anywhere, but it’s a great idea.

The article reports:

Trump on Thursday signed an executive order that directed Education Secretary Linda McMahon to begin taking steps to close the department. However, dismantling a federal agency requires an act of Congress.

Rulli told Fox News Digital Thursday that he would be introducing the legislation soon but didn’t specify when. 

He said his legislation would allow funding for resources for children with special needs, Title I programs and Pell Grants to come from other federal departments.

A website called Intellectual Takeout reported the following in 2019:

Federal “Highly Qualified Teacher” mandates. Adequate Yearly Progress requirements. Smaller learning communities. Improving Teacher Quality State Grants. Reading First. Early Reading First. The dozens of other federal programs authorized via No Child Left Behind. School Improvement Grants. Race to the Top. Common Core.

All of that has been just since 2000. Over those past two decades, while federal policymakers were busy enacting new federal laws, creating mandates for local school leaders, and increasing the Department of Education’s budget from $38 billion in 2000 (unadjusted for inflation) to roughly $70 billion today, the math and reading performance of American high school students remained completely flat. That is to say, stagnant.

The U.S. is now above the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development average in reading, but alas, not because U.S. reading performance has improved. Rather, other countries have seen declines in reading achievement, despite increases in education spending.

In mathematics, however, U.S. performance has steadily declined over the past two decades.

Those are the findings from the Programme for International Student Assessment, or PISA exams, released last week.

It seems that the formation of the Department of Education has not resulted in the success of American students.

Federal government efforts to improve education have been dismal. Even if there were a constitutional basis for its involvement – which there isn’t – the federal government is simply ill-positioned to determine what education policies will best serve the diverse local communities across our vast nation.

The sooner we can acknowledge that improvements will not come from Washington, the sooner we’re likely to see students flourishing in learning environments that reflect their unique needs and desires.

It really is time to get rid of the Department of Education. They have not fulfilled their purpose, and they are simply a financial drain on the American taxpayer.

Bias Is Not Only How You Report The News, But What You Leave Out

Early Tuesday evening, Fox News Digital reporter Brook Singman published a bombshell report of documents released from House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY) showing the $250K Hunter Biden received from his Chinese business partners had President Joe Biden’s address listed. All three evening news broadcasts (ABC’s World News Tonight, CBS Evening News, & NBC Nightly News) ignored this latest development. 

Instead, the networks were enthralled with stories like the so-called “Taylor Swift effect” which apparently caused football player Travis Kelce jersey sales to spike nearly 400% (ABC), African American actor Hattie McDaniel’s missing Oscar (CBS), and a reported shortage of primary care doctors (NBC). 

According to Fox News Digital, “As part of the investigation, Comer subpoenaed financial records related to a specific bank account and received records of two wires originating from Beijing and linked to BHR Partners.” 

How many of these same networks headlined the fiasco in New York that essentially said that President Trump should spend one hundred million years in jail because they disagree with the value of his properties?

The article notes:

…”The first wire transfer sent to Hunter Biden, dated July 26, 2019, was for $10,000 from an individual named Ms. Wang Xin. There is a Ms. Wang Xin listed on the website for BHR Partners. It is unclear if the wire came from that Wang Xin,” Fox reported.

Fox News Digital added that “The second wire transfer sent to Hunter Biden, dated Aug. 2, 2019, was for $250,000 from Li Xiang Sheng — also known as Jonathan Li, the CEO of BHR Partners — and Ms. Tan Ling.”

“The beneficiary for the wires is listed as Robert Hunter Biden with the address “1209 Barley Mill Rd.” in Wilmington, Delaware. That address is the main residence for President Biden,” Fox noted.

According to Hunter’s own diary, he wasn’t living in Wilmington at the time. Could this wire transfer actually be for “The Big Guy”? Don’t expect the leftist media to look into it.

Public Schools In Some Places Need To Be Closed

The insanity in our public schools is out of control. Today, The Conservative Review reported the following:

A Rhode Island elected school board official involved in promoting a diversity, equity, and inclusion agenda in the district, recently came under fire for claiming that intentionally “misgendering” someone is an “act of violence” that “needs to be dealt with accordingly.”

Jennifer Lima, elected member of the North Kingstown School Committee, shared a social media post from an activist group on November 12 that read, “Purposefully misgendering students is an act of violence. Respond accordingly.”

Lima added to the shared post, “I recognize that some may find the use of the word violence in this post extreme.”

“Any act of violence in our schools which creates an unsafe environment (physically or emotionally by or for any member of the school community) needs to be dealt with accordingly,” Lima continued.

Lima was consequently slammed online by critics who interpreted her post as advocating a violent response to using incorrect pronouns.

In a statement to Fox News Digital, Lima explained, “I also believe that purposely misgendering someone is an act of psychological violence when done deliberately and consistently and should be responded to accordingly.”

The article concludes:

Nicole Solas, a senior fellow with the Independent Women’s Forum, disagreed and told Fox News Digital, “If you believe you’re under threat of violence then to ‘respond accordingly’ means you act in self-defense, which is a physical and often violent action taken to protect yourself.”

“Her public call for students to ‘respond accordingly’ to non-existent violence is her own tacit call to violence against those who oppose her radical ideology,” Solas continued. “She creates a hostile, paranoid school environment where violence is now more likely to happen thanks to her hysterical message that danger lurks around every pronoun.”

Lima previously faced a failed recall effort in 2021 launched by the Gaspee Project, a Rhode Island-based nonprofit. The group accused Lima of pushing “antiracist” policies and a “Marxist” agenda.

The Gaspee Project stated that the school board official was “openly seeking to indoctrinate students with divisive race and gender theories as well as anti-police propaganda.”

Lima stated that the organization targeted her for being “vocal about deeper antiracism education.”

North Kingstown is a pretty town on the West side of Narragansett Bay. For many years it was the home of Quonset Point Naval Air Station and the Davisville Seabee base. Because it was a military town, it tended to be conservative despite being in a liberal state. It is sad to see a teacher in this quiet little town trying to indoctrinate her students and incite violence. She should be recalled.
