Has Anyone In Washington Actually Read The U.S. Constitution?

On Saturday, The U.K. Daily Mail reported the following:

Biden invokes emergency wartime powers to boost heat pump production with $169M in federal funds in administration’s latest push to replace gas appliances

  • Biden will fund nine manufacturers with $169 million from last year’s climate bill
  • Funding is the first under emergency authority on the basis of climate change
  • Biden is using the powers under Defense Production Act to boost green energy

There is no reason to use emergency powers because of climate change. The first question here is how much money did these nine manufacturers pay Joe Biden or his family recently? It also should be noted that heat pumps are not efficient in temperatures below 40 degrees. We had a heat pump in our first house in North Carolina and on the rare occasions that the temperature dropped below 40 degrees, the house was cold and we had to resort to small portable heaters. There is no way that this is better for the environment than gas heat. Where does the Biden administration think that electricity comes from?

The article reports”

President Joe Biden will use special wartime powers to boost US production of heat pumps, by funding nine manufacturing projects with $169 million from last year’s climate bill, the Energy Department said on Friday.

The awards were granted under the emergency authority of the Cold War-era Defense Production Act (DPA), which Biden invoked on the basis of climate change to boost spending on clean energy technology.

‘The President is using his wartime emergency powers under the Defense Production Act to turbocharge US manufacturing of clean technologies and strengthen our energy security,’ said Biden’s National Climate Advisor Ali Zaidi in a statement.

Heat pumps can heat and cool homes and businesses more efficiently using thermal transfer, which moves heat from one area to another, rather than generating new heat.

President Biden’s wartime powers do not apply in this case, and I hope either Congress slaps him down or that a court case is quickly put together to stop this nonsense.

A New Age Of Government Control

I don’t think our Founding Fathers are turning over in their graves–I think they are spinning. On Monday, Townhall reported that President Biden is planning to use the Defense Production Act to force American companies to help transition to his green energy plans.

The article reports:

“President Biden today issued presidential determinations providing the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) with the authority to utilize the Defense Production Act (DPA) to accelerate domestic production of five key energy technologies: (1) solar; (2) transformers and electric grid components; (3) heat pumps; (4) insulation; and (5) electrolyzers, fuel cells, and platinum group metals,” the Department of Energy released in a statement Monday.

In a “fact sheet” released by the White House, Biden administration officials claim the move will spur domestic solar panel production and ramp up so-called “clean energy” projects.

At some point will someone please tell those in charge in the Biden administration (whoever they are) that the sun does not shine 24/7 and the wind does not blow 24/7. Green energy is useless unless it is backed up by a more reliable source of energy.

The article continues:

“Today, President Biden is taking action to: Authorize use of the Defense Production Act (DPA) to accelerate domestic production of clean energy technologies, including solar panel parts; Put the full power of federal procurement to work spurring additional domestic solar manufacturing capacity by directing the development of master supply agreements, including ‘super preference’ status,” the sheet states. “Create a 24-month bridge as domestic manufacturing rapidly scales up to ensure the reliable supply of components that U.S. solar deployers need to construct clean energy projects and an electric grid for the 21st century, while reinforcing the integrity of our trade laws and processes. “

The move echoes efforts made by the Obama administration to prop up solar energy. At the time, Biden was Vice President and the project was a complete failure. It also left American taxpayers on the hook.

Solyndra was the poster child for the government’s last wasteful venture into green energy. I am sure this venture will provide us with more examples of the reason the government should keep its hands off of the free market.

Actions Have Consequences

On Sunday, The Epoch Times posted an article about the Biden administration’s efforts to lower the cost of gasoline in America.

The article reports:

President of Whaley Energy Consulting, Don Whaley, said the White House’s recent plan to bring down gas prices, while bold, lacks substance. He said invoking the Defense Production Act (DPA) and releasing oil from the national reserves is largely symbolic.

“So, this announcement, while it’s a bold step … I’m not sure how much substance there really is behind it. And more importantly, this is not like during World War Two, when we turned all our commercial production into military production,” Whaley told NTD’s Capitol Report during a recent interview.

The article concludes:

“I think we need to de-risk the oil and gas industry. This administration from day one has waged a subtle war on oil and gas exploration in the U.S. President Biden’s nominee for Comptroller of the Currency went on record saying that it was their goal to bankrupt oil and gas explorers,” Whaley added.

Whaley is referring to comments a former Biden’s nominee for Comptroller of Currency, Saule Omarova, made during a virtual Jain Family Institute’s Social Wealth Seminar in Februray 2022, when talking about coal, gas, and oil companies she said, “We want them to go bankrupt if we want to tackle climate change.”

“And whenever prices run up, we see upticks in exploration, upticks in production. It’s not safe to do that right now, because you don’t know what sort of regulatory barricade is coming around the corner. And so why would you invest those dollars in an unstable regulatory environment that’s been created by this administration,” said Whaley.

Investors invest in things that are stable. Right now because of the Biden administration’s war on fossil fuel (they deny that war, but the facts show the war on fossil fuel is real). Why would anyone invest in an oil company if they felt that the government was going to shut down the oil industry in the near future?
