Bad News For America’s South

On January 6th, MSN reported that Advent International, a global private equity firm, has reached a deal to acquire Sauer Brands Inc., the company that makes Duke’s mayonnaise. Duke’s is the premiere brand in the American south. I am not a mayonnaise lover, but Duke’s has a really good flavor and is the only mayonnaise I am willing to buy.

The article reports:

Sauer Brands, whose iconic products include Duke’s Mayo, Mateo’s Gourmet Salsa and Kernel Season’s, has become a formidable player in the condiments and seasonings market. Among these, Duke’s Mayo stands out as a key brand with a legacy dating back to 1917. Boston-based Advent said Duke’s is the fastest-growing large-scale player in the mayonnaise category.

I can guarantee that if they touch the recipe, their sales will tank.
