How You Handle Baseless Accusations

The conspiracy theorists are everywhere–on both sides of the political spectrum. (Actually, I should have said the current political spectrum. Our Founding Fathers had a much more realistic political spectrum–the put anarchy at one end and tyranny at the other end. Their goal was to create a government somewhere near the middle.) Some of the conspiracies (on both sides) are just ridiculous. Be careful what colors you wear.

On Friday, The U.K. Daily Mail posted an article about reporter Adam Satariano’s request to Tucker Carlson regarding the Proud Boys.

The article reports:

In a post on X, political commentator and media personality Tucker Carlson revealed a request he received from reporter Adam Satariano, who prefaced that he was writing a story about how groups affiliated with the Proud Boys use the chat app Telegram to communicate.

The inquiry read: ‘In some Telegram posts from chapters of the Proud Boys, they discuss Mr. Carlson wearing black and gold colors at the recent MSG rally for former President Trump in New York.

The article includes Tucker Carlson’s reply:

He responded facetiously: ‘Yes, this is an official Proud Boys necktie. I received it at my Proud Boys initiation several years ago, after swearing a blood oath to the global fascist revolution and the sacred principles of Q Anon.

‘As you can imagine, I wouldn’t normally admit this. The rules of secret societies being what they are, anything related to dress code is supposed to be confidential. But in this case, I’ve been outfoxed by your relentless shoe-leather journalism.

‘Darn you, New York Times. You win again.’

The article concludes:

Adam Satariano, who prefaced that he was writing a story about how groups affiliated with the Proud Boys use the chat app Telegram to communicate.DJT, the operator of Trump’s Truth Social platform, was worth $9.5 billion by Monday’s close – the same as Elon Musk’s X, formerly known as Twitter.

The stock is up by 236 percent this month – on pace for its best month since October 2021. It was trading for over $54 at noon on Tuesday.

However, trading was suspended several times on Tuesday over the stock’s extraordinary volatility.

I just hope that after the election the ‘silly season’ ends.
