The obvious question is why wasn&#8217;t this done long ago.<\/p>\n<p>The article reports:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>The U.S. Treasury announced the successful implementation of fraud prevention programs across the Department in 2026 protecting a significant amount of taxpayer money.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>On Monday, the Treasury Department confirmed it had screened over 1.1 billion federal payments totaling $3.7 trillion dollars and identified 13,500 fraudulent payments worth $175 million that would have gone to deceased individuals, according to its Tuesday <a href=\"https:\/\/home.treasury.gov\/news\/press-releases\/sb0651\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-mrf-link=\"https:\/\/home.treasury.gov\/news\/press-releases\/sb0651\">press release<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>\u201cTreasury continues to transform how the federal government protects taxpayer dollars by using better data, stronger controls, and advanced technology to stop fraud and improper payments before money goes out the door,\u201d Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said in the release. \u201cIn the past year alone, Treasury built and deployed new safeguards.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The article concludes:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>Through the Do Not Pay program, the government analyzed and screened 2.3 billion records through the Public Assistance Reporting Information System (PARIS), according to the department\u2019s Monday press release.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>The Treasury implemented these programs in coordination with President Donald Trump\u2019s March 2025 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/presidential-actions\/2025\/03\/protecting-americas-bank-account-against-fraud-waste-and-abuse\/\" data-mrf-link=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/presidential-actions\/2025\/03\/protecting-americas-bank-account-against-fraud-waste-and-abuse\/\">Executive Order 14249<\/a>, \u201cProtecting America\u2019s Bank Account Against Fraud, Waste, and Abuse.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, this program was implemented through an Executive Order and can be undone if the Democrats win Congress in the mid-term elections or the presidency in 2028.
