On Thursday, Just the News<\/a> posted an article about the unemployment numbers for the week ending September 26.<\/p>\n The article reports:<\/p>\n The number of people applying for unemployment benefits fell last week to the lowest level since mid-July, according to the latest data<\/a> from the Labor Department.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n For the week ending Sept. 26, the seasonally adjusted initial jobless claims fell to 197,000, a drop of 1,000 from the previous week.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n The four-week moving average was 200,000, which was a decrease of 2,500 from the previous week’s revised average, the Labor Department said.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n Unemployment claims are a proxy indicator for layoffs, and they signal to economists where the job market is headed. So far this year, claims have remained below 220,000, which is a historic low.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n According to AI, “in 2024, the GDP of the United States is projected to grow at an annual rate of approximately 2.4 percent, reflecting a robust economic performance despite global challenges.” The predicted Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth for the third quarter of 2026 is 2.8 percent. Why did 2.4 percent reflect a robust economic performance while the media is suspiciously quiet about 2.8 percent growth?<\/p>\n Much of the media is reporting that consumer confidence is down in September. Might that be the result of the fact that the mainstream media is not reporting the successes of the Trump economy? The media plays a major role in how people perceive the economy. If the media reporting is favorable, people believe the country is doing well. If the media reporting is favorable and someone gets laid off, they assume that their situation is unique. If the reporting is negative and a person has a good job, they assume that they are the exception rather than the rule.
