On Sunday, Breitbart<\/a> posted an article about the Alternative for Germany party that seemingly has won a victory in the Saxony-Anhalt state elections. The party, which is anti-mass migration, has gained ground in recent German elections.<\/p>\n

According to exit poll forecasts from Infratest Dimap for public broadcaster ARD, the Alternative f\u00fcr Deutschland (AfD) has won an overwhelming victory at a projected 44.5 per cent of the vote, Die Welt<\/em> reported<\/a>.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

In order to take the reins of power, the party has to form a coalition with other parties to create a majority.<\/p>\n

The article notes:<\/p>\n

Due to\u00a0the supposedly conservative CDU\u2019s long standing cordon-sanitaire firewall policy against working with the AfD, it is unlikely that the establishment party would enter into a coalition with populist upstarts.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The lead candidate for the AfD in the elections, Ulrich Siegmund, praised his party\u2019s victory as \u201chistoric\u201d and extended an offer to work with the CDU, saying: \u201cAs a democrat, I will always extend my hand to all forces that will help us achieve a political turnaround.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

However, should the CDU refuse, as they are likely to do, the party could seek to form a minority government with the left-wing Social Democrats \u2014 as they have done at the national level \u2014 with the far-left Greens, and the tacit support of the radical Die Linke socialists.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The current leader of the state, CDU Minister-President Sven Schulze congratulated the AfD on their victory, but did not comment on the prospect of a potential coalition.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cI think it\u2019s clear that we would all have wished for a better result in every respect,\u201d Schulze said. \u201cWe as the CDU will also have to deal with this result.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cSome say this would be a black day for Saxony-Anhalt. I say: This is democracy,\u201d he added.<\/strong><\/p>\n
