However, things may be beginning to change.<\/p>\n<p>On Monday, <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/08\/24\/world-news\/why-uaes-suspension-of-iran-trade-could-be-biggest-threat-to-regime-yet\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The New York Post<\/a> reported:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>A US ally in the Middle East has finally cut off Iran \u2014 and it could be one of the biggest threats to the regime yet.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>The <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/08\/23\/world-news\/uae-suspends-all-trade-with-iran-until-further-notice-after-accusing-tehran-of-firing-ballistic-missiles-toward-country\/\">United Arab Emirates, which serves as Tehran\u2019s largest supplier of goods<\/a>, suspended all trade with the Iran over the weekend \u2014 nixing $6 billion in cash that went to the regime from exports, as well as access to vital supplies from the outside world.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>Dubai \u2014 the UAE\u2019s thriving commercial hub \u2014 is by far Iran\u2019s largest supplier of goods. The Emirati government finally got fed up with Iran <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/05\/05\/world-news\/iran-hits-uae-with-drones-and-missile-attacks-as-trump-tries-to-reopen-strait-of-hormuz\/\">following repeated missile attacks<\/a> that triggered evacuations for the first time during the war.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>The move not only threatens the $21.3 billion trade relations between the two nations, it also leaves Iran without its primary way to collect US dollars, Mark Kimmitt, a retired US general and former assistant secretary of state, told The Post.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>\u201cIf the Emirates cease trade and blocks dollar flows, it could have a crippling effect on the Iranian economy,\u201d Kimmitt said.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>Dubai essentially served as Iran\u2019s window to the world after years of being slapped by Western sanctions, with traders buying and re-exporting consumer goods, food and industrial equipment to Iran.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Iran made a tactical error when it began attacking its Arab neighbors. The only hope to keep the Iranian economy afloat right now is China.<\/p>\n<p>The article notes:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>Traffic through the Strait of Hormuz has begun recovering despite Iran\u2019s threats, even as the regime announces new penalties for vessels that refuse to play by its rules. Some ships are using routes Iran doesn\u2019t recognize. Others are sailing with their transponders switched off, making the precise traffic picture difficult to measure. But the larger point is becoming harder for Tehran to hide: intimidation isn\u2019t working the way it used to.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>Iran, naturally, is handling this with all the composure you\u2019d expect.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>Mohsen Rezaei, the regime\u2019s new security chief, warned that countries cooperating with America\u2019s economic campaign could be treated as committing an \u201cact of war.\u201d Tehran is also threatening retaliation against neighboring countries and economic interests if they help Washington tighten the screws.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s hard to win the poker game when you don&#8217;t have the cards.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The war in Iran is dragging on.
