On Wednesday, John Hinderaker at Power Line Blog<\/a> posted an article about the recent revelations about Russiagate. There really should be some people who were in our government during the first Trump administration (and slightly before) that should be sitting in a jail cell.<\/p>\n

For a number of years, perhaps continuing to the present, the FBI was a covert arm of the Democratic Party. This is a huge scandal, the depths of which have not yet been plumbed. Today more emails were released by the federal government, showing that in 2017, while Donald Trump was president, the FBI opened an investigation into whether Trump\u2013the person to whom the FBI reports\u2013was a Russian agent.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The question is absurd on its face. The whole \u201cRussia\u201d claim came from the fake Steele dossier that was paid for by the Democratic National Committee and the Hillary Clinton presidential campaign. By the time the 2017 investigation was opened, the FBI knew that the Steele dossier was a fraud.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Moreover, the most important thing any U.S. president can do to help the Russians is to suppress production of American oil and gas, as Barack Obama did. The most important thing any U.S. president can do to hurt the Russians is to promote production of American oil and gas, as President Trump did. The idea of Trump as \u201cRussian agent\u201d was idiotic from the start.<\/strong><\/p>\n

I continue to think that the FBI is capable of doing good work, as it did in the Minnesota fraud investigation. But the extent of the partisan corruption that has come to light in recent years requires that we re-think both the structure of that agency and the scope of its powers.<\/strong><\/p>\n
