{"id":64802,"date":"2026-07-26T13:01:19","date_gmt":"2026-07-26T17:01:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/?p=64802"},"modified":"2026-07-26T13:01:19","modified_gmt":"2026-07-26T17:01:19","slug":"how-significant-is-lying-to-congress","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/?p=64802","title":{"rendered":"How Significant Is Lying To Congress?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On Thursday, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/justice-last-jack-smith-referred-doj-criminal-charges\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Western Journal<\/a> reported that House Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan of Ohio criminally referred Jack Smith to the Justice Department Wednesday, alleging the former special counsel made false statements during congressional testimony last year.<\/p>\n<p>The article reports:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/jack-smith-hit-criminal-referral-gop-moves-testimony-fight-toward-prosecution\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Fox News<\/strong><\/a><strong> reported on Wednesday, \u201cSenate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, released documents last week showing Smith\u2019s team read the text messages of 44 members of Congress from both parties and White House staff during its investigation.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/jack-smiths-team-knew-might-get-sued-secretly-seeking-senators-phone-records\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Smith<\/a> was overseeing the prosecution of Trump for allegedly interfering in the 2020 election results and mishandling classified documents.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>&#8230;According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/judiciary.house.gov\/sites\/evo-subsites\/republicans-judiciary.house.gov\/files\/evo-media-document\/2026-07-22-jdj-to-doj-blanche-re-smith-referral.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">criminal referral letter<\/a> sent by Jordan to Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche on Wednesday, Smith, when asked during testimony before the House Judiciary Committee last December whether his probe had read lawmakers\u2019 text messages, replied, \u2018No.\u2019<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/rep-jim-jordan-erupts-discovering-biden-doj-spied-years\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">&#8230;Jordan<\/a> wrote Blanche in his referral letter, \u201cAll individuals have an obligation to comply with a duly authorized congressional inquiry. Mr. Smith, a former public servant, is no different. Yet his testimony included intentionally false statements designed to obstruct the Committee\u2019s oversight.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>\u201cHis conduct can only be understood as an effort to thwart the Committee\u2019s inquiry by intentionally making false statements and representations before Congress,\u201d Jordan added, noting his committee believes sufficient evidence exists to criminally charge Smith under federal law.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>Jordan further elaborated on Fox News Thursday, recounting, \u201c[Smith] said he didn\u2019t get contents, when in fact he did for 44 members of the United States Congress.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The article concludes:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>\u201cWhen you ask the special counsel, hand-picked by the Garland-Biden Justice Department, to go after President Trump. Mr. Jack Smith \u2026 When you ask him, \u2018Did you get the contents of members of Congress\u2019s communications and he says, \u2018No,\u2019 that is not telling the truth. Because, in fact, he did,\u201d Jordan said.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>He further asserted that Smith\u2019s prosecutors told the telephone carrier not to notify him or other targeted lawmakers that they had obtained access to their texts.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>Jordan concluded, \u201cIt\u2019s always worse than we thought when we start these things. The amount of information, the number of people he went after.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>Rep.<a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/jamie-raskin-flails-host-corners-dems-didnt-care-epstein-files-now\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> Jamie Raskin<\/a> of Maryland, the top-ranking Democrat on the Judiciary Committee, argued in a Wednesday <a href=\"https:\/\/democrats-judiciary.house.gov\/media-center\/press-releases\/ranking-member-raskin-slams-republicans-baseless-and-vindictive-criminal-referral-of-jack-smith-former-special-counsel-who-prosecuted-trump-s-crimes\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">news release<\/a> that Smith\u2019s answers in December were responsive to the questions posed to him.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>What Jack Smith did (surveilling Congressmen&#8217;s phones) was illegal. Lying about it was also illegal.
