{"id":64242,"date":"2026-06-09T19:09:40","date_gmt":"2026-06-09T23:09:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/?p=64242"},"modified":"2026-06-09T19:09:40","modified_gmt":"2026-06-09T23:09:40","slug":"a-bad-week-for-fairfax-county-schools","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/?p=64242","title":{"rendered":"A Bad Week For Fairfax County Schools"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On Saturday, <a href=\"https:\/\/wtop.com\/crime\/2026\/06\/3-fairfax-county-public-schools-employees-charged-in-separate-cases-this-week\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">WTOP News<\/a> reported three legal cases against Fairfax County School employees.<\/p>\n<p>The article reports:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>Three Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) employees were arrested or charged in unrelated criminal investigations announced by Fairfax County police this week, including allegations involving inappropriate contact with a student, embezzlement and theft.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>The most serious offense involves a Langley High School teacher accused of inappropriate conduct with a student.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/fcpdnews.org\/2026\/06\/05\/fcps-teacher-charged-with-indecent-liberties-by-custodian\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Police<\/strong><\/a><strong> said the investigation began June 2 after concerns were reported to the School Resource Officer (SRO). Detectives later determined that Matthew Thorsen, 38, from Reston, a math teacher at Langley High School, had engaged in unlawful and inappropriate contact with a student.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>He was arrested June 4 and charged with three counts of Indecent Liberties by Custodian and one count of Using a Communication Device to Solicit a Minor. He is being held without bond. FCPS placed him on administrative leave after being notified of the allegations, according to police.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>&#8230;In a <a href=\"https:\/\/fcpdnews.org\/2026\/06\/05\/fcps-employee-charged-with-embezzlement-and-computer-fraud\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">separate case<\/a>, police charged a Hayfield Secondary School Finance Technician for embezzling more than $40,000 from the school.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>&#8230;<a href=\"https:\/\/fcpdnews.org\/2026\/06\/05\/fcps-employee-arrested-following-theft-of-woodworking-tools\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">A third investigation<\/a> involved the alleged theft of woodworking tools from Chantilly High School.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>Police said school administrators alerted the SRO on May 29 after learning an employee, Trevor Papavasiliou, 34, from Culpeper, had taken $1,200 worth of tools from a woodworking classroom.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>He turned himself in June 4.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>Following the investigation, Papavasiliou was charged with Grand Larceny. The school has suspended him from his position.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>The cases are unrelated, but Fairfax County police announced the trio of arrests and charges involving school employees on the same day.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Thank you to the police for keeping our schools safe and dealing with employee misconduct.
