{"id":64191,"date":"2026-06-05T14:15:34","date_gmt":"2026-06-05T18:15:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/?p=64191"},"modified":"2026-06-05T14:15:34","modified_gmt":"2026-06-05T18:15:34","slug":"bringing-sanity-to-the-federal-firing-process","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/?p=64191","title":{"rendered":"Bringing Sanity To The Federal Firing Process"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On June 4th, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/news\/politics\/2026\/06\/04\/firing-federal-workers-trump-eo-employees\/90401359007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">USA Today<\/a> posted an article about a change in the process of firing federal employees.<\/p>\n<p>The article reports:<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\" style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><a class=\"gnt_ar_b_a\" href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/news\/politics\/donald-trump\/\" data-t-l=\":b|e|k|\u2691u\"><strong>President Donald Trump<\/strong><\/a><strong> has signed an executive order converting nearly 8,000 federal workers who are in &#8220;senior policy-influencing positions&#8221; into at-will employees, making it easier for the administration to fire them.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\" style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>About 97% of the reclassified positions are among the highest-ranking career positions, such as directors, chiefs of staff, senior advisers and policy analysts who are involved in drafting regulations and guidance and determining who gets federal grants.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\" style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>At an Oval Office event June 3 to sign the executive order, Trump invited James Sherk of the Domestic Policy Council, the mastermind behind the change, to share his thoughts.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\" style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>Sherk said federal employee removal procedures are often lengthy.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\" style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>&#8220;If you have employees who are trying to undermine the wishes of American people by pushing of their own agenda or just incompetent in what they&#8217;re doing, agencies have a longstanding typical time getting rid of them. And that&#8217;s a particular problem,&#8221; Sherk said.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\" style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>&#8220;What this does is basically treats those employees like private sector workers. They can be hired on the basis of merit \u2026 but if they&#8217;re messing up, then they can be removed real quickly rather than taking a year longer.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\" style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>A fact sheet issued by the White House put the idea behind the change in starker terms. It said that because firing employees is burdensome, &#8220;agencies seldom remove career employees&#8221; for &#8220;subversion of Presidential priorities.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Only about 50,000 employees will be affected by this change&#8211;they would be reclassified to Schedule Policy\/Career.<\/p>\n<p>The article concludes:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>Since the start of the second Trump administration, the federal government has <a class=\"gnt_ar_b_a\" href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/news\/nation\/2026\/02\/22\/grants-contracts-cut-elon-musk-doge-usaid\/88218628007\/\" data-t-l=\":b|e|k|\u2691u\">reduced the workforce<\/a> by more than 300,000 civil service jobs.
