I can&#8217;t imagine why a judge would not want to clean up the voter rolls, but here we are.<\/p>\n<p>On Saturday, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/us\/judge-blocks-doj-from-voter-rolls-in-rhode-island-citing-similar-rulings-in-4-other-states-6013784?ea_src=frontpage&amp;ea_med=section-1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Epoch Times<\/a> reported:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>A Rhode Island judge on April 17 delivered another blow to the Trump Administration\u2019s quest for voter-registration rolls nationwide.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>U.S. District Judge Mary McElroy denied what she called \u201cunprecedented demands for unredacted voting rolls\u201d from the state of Rhode Island.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>In a ruling that echoed similar decisions from judges in several other states, McElroy said Department of Justice (DOJ) lawyers provided neither a legal nor a factual basis for the records.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>Two federal laws require each U.S. state to make a \u201creasonable effort\u201d to ensure that its voter-registration lists are accurate, the judge noted. But those laws do not allow \u201cDOJ to conduct the kind of fishing expedition it seeks here,\u201d McElroy wrote.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>DOJ lawyers, in a demand letter issued to Rhode Island, stated that they sought the records to ensure the state\u2019s voter rolls met legal requirements. Yet the lawyers cited no specific evidence suggesting problems with Rhode Island\u2019s voter records, the judge said.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>In contrast, in a demand letter issued to Michigan, the DOJ \u201cpointed to several purported anomalies\u201d in that state, including \u201ca high percentage of registered voters, a low confirmation notice rate, a low voter removal rate, and a high duplicate registration rate,\u201d the judge said.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>McElroy noted that judges in \u201cnearly identical cases\u201d ruled against the DOJ\u2019s requests for unredacted voter-registration information. Those cases occurred in <a class=\"article-hover-class\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/us\/federal-judge-denies-doj-bid-to-access-california-voter-registration-rolls-5971961\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">California<\/a>, Oregon, Michigan, and <a class=\"article-hover-class\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/us\/federal-judge-dismisses-doj-request-for-massachusetts-voter-rolls-6010005\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Massachusetts<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>While supporters of the federal effort to obtain voter rolls say it could help ensure integrity of U.S. elections, opponents raise concerns over voter-data privacy and ways in which the government might use the information.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If these judges really believe that the government doesn&#8217;t already have every bit of information on every American, they are seriously naive and should probably seek other employment.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Oddly enough, one of the obstacles to voter integrity is America&#8217;s courts.
