{"id":63444,"date":"2026-04-07T11:12:06","date_gmt":"2026-04-07T15:12:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/?p=63444"},"modified":"2026-04-07T11:12:06","modified_gmt":"2026-04-07T15:12:06","slug":"laws-have-consequences-8","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/?p=63444","title":{"rendered":"Laws Have Consequences"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On Monday, <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/democrats\/colorados-free-health-care-program-for-illegal-immigrant-pregnant-persons-and-children-backed-by-dem-congressional-hopefuls-costs-seven-times-more-than-planned\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Washington Free Beacon<\/a> posted an article about a Colorado healthcare program that began in 2005.<\/p>\n<p>The article reports:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>A Colorado program launched in 2025 to provide taxpayer-funded health care to illegal immigrant &#8220;pregnant persons&#8221; and children is costing seven times more than expected. The program, which was estimated to cost less than $15 million but has ballooned in costs to nearly $105 million this fiscal year, has emerged as a sore spot as the state grapples with a $1.5 billion budget shortfall that could lead to deep cuts to Medicaid and other programs for citizens.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>Two of the Democrats who supported the program in the Colorado legislature are now seeking a promotion to the House of Representatives.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>Democratic lawmakers, including former state representative Shannon Bird, one of the candidates vying to represent Colorado\u2019s Eighth Congressional District, <a href=\"https:\/\/leg.colorado.gov\/bill_votes\/26430\">passed<\/a> a law in 2022 to create the Cover All Coloradans program. It provides state-funded health care for &#8220;pregnant persons&#8221; and children who would qualify for Medicaid if they weren\u2019t illegal immigrants. Fiscal analysts estimated at the time that the program would draw 3,700 enrollees at a cost of $14.7 million to the state.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>But the illegal immigrant population in Colorado spiked as the law passed, rising from 160,000 in 2021 to more than 200,000 in 2025, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coloradopolitics.com\/2025\/08\/27\/colorados-unauthorized-immigrant-population-jumps-by-40000-in-2-years-pew-reports\/#:~:text=The%20population%20of%20immigrants%20illegally,than%2043%2C000%20have%20come%20since.\">the Pew Research Center<\/a>. Costs for the Cover All Coloradans program increased sixfold to $104.5 million to Colorado taxpayers after 28,000 immigrants enrolled in the program when it launched in 2025, <a href=\"https:\/\/coloradosun.com\/2026\/03\/16\/colorado-medicaid-immigrants-cost-overruns\/\">the <em>Colorado Sun<\/em> reported<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Free stuff is expensive!<\/p>\n<p>The article notes:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>Colorado&#8217;s Democratic House speaker Julie McCluskie, the lead sponsor of the Cover All Coloradans program in 2022, said there have been &#8220;unanticipated impacts&#8221; to the illegal immigrant health care program since its launch last year.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>&#8220;At the time we made budget decisions \u2014 whether it was during the pandemic, following the pandemic \u2014 we made those decisions based on the forecasts in front of us,&#8221; McCluskie told <a href=\"https:\/\/coloradosun.com\/2026\/03\/16\/colorado-medicaid-immigrants-cost-overruns\/\">the <em>Sun<\/em><\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We don&#8217;t need more fiscally irresponsible people in the U.S. House!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On Monday, The Washington Free Beacon posted an article about a Colorado healthcare program that began in 2005.
