{"id":63273,"date":"2026-03-24T10:02:18","date_gmt":"2026-03-24T14:02:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/?p=63273"},"modified":"2026-03-24T10:02:18","modified_gmt":"2026-03-24T14:02:18","slug":"policies-have-consequences-16","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/?p=63273","title":{"rendered":"Policies Have Consequences"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On Monday, <a href=\"https:\/\/issuesinsights.com\/2026\/03\/23\/a-great-income-tax-divorce-is-underway-and-its-a-beautiful-thing\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Issues &amp; Insights<\/a> posted an article about the opposing taxation trends between red states and blue states in America.<\/p>\n<p>The article reports:<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-drop-cap\" style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>The Wall Street Journal recently reported on the growing divide between blue and red states when it comes to income taxes. What it failed to mention is that this shows the genius of the nation\u2019s founders.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>\u201cRepublican-led states are racing each other to flatten, cut, and eliminate individual income taxes, with 23 states lowering their top income-tax rates since 2021,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.is\/fGC2P#selection-5093.0-5093.43\">Richard Rubin and\u00a0 Jeanne Whalen write<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>And, indeed, this year, <a href=\"https:\/\/atr.org\/income-tax-cuts-take-effect-in-nine-states-on-new-years-day\/\">nine states<\/a> \u2013 all Republican \u2013 either cut their top marginal tax rate or lowered their flat tax rate. Ohio became the 14th state to adopt a flat tax.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>\u201cDemocratic-controlled states are moving the opposite way,\u201d notes the Journal, \u201cpushing to increase taxes on top earners to combat inequality and plug budget holes expected from Republicans\u2019 cuts to federal health and nutrition assistance programs.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The article includes two graphs that illustrate the result of each of these policies:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/StatesGainedMoney.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-63274\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/StatesGainedMoney.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"648\" height=\"775\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/StatesGainedMoney.jpg 648w, https:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/StatesGainedMoney-251x300.jpg 251w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 648px) 100vw, 648px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The article notes:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>The Journal notes that the number of states with top rates below 5% and above 10% have both been increasing.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>\u201cThe middle ground is quickly disappearing.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>So how is this a good thing? After all, we\u2019ve written many times in this space about the folly of playing the \u201ctax the rich\u201d game.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>It\u2019s good news because this is exactly how our system of government is supposed to work. States are free to experiment with their taxing, spending, and regulating policies \u2013 and suffer the consequences.<\/strong><\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-9\" style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><\/div>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>And that\u2019s just what we\u2019ve been seeing. Millions of middle-class Americans are voting with their feet \u2013 leaving high-tax \u201cprogressive\u201d states for those that keep their government spending in check, regulations to a minimum, and their taxes low.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I guess my husband and I were not the only people to get out of Massachusetts as soon as we could!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On Monday, Issues &amp; Insights posted an article about the opposing taxation trends between red states and blue states in America.
