The ACLJ jumped into the fight on Day One \u2013 and never looked back.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>&#8230;Planned Parenthood filed suit in the Massachusetts federal district court within days of the bill\u2019s passage. When the district judge granted two sweeping preliminary injunctions \u2013 claiming the defunding violated Planned Parenthood\u2019s First Amendment rights \u2013 we <a href=\"https:\/\/aclj.org\/pro-life\/aclj-files-brief-urging-court-of-appeals-to-issue-emergency-stay-of-judges-dangerously-flawed-ruling-blocking-the-defunding-of-planned-parenthood?utm_source=THPost&amp;utm_campaign=d-03202026_top-PL_con-AbortionIndustry_var-Backlink\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span class=\"s9\">filed four amicus briefs<\/span><\/a> fighting back, including urging the First Circuit to issue an emergency stay. The First Circuit granted the <a href=\"https:\/\/aclj.org\/pro-life\/victory-first-circuit-grants-stay-against-planned-parenthood-injunctions-acljs-amicus-briefs-help-secure-win-for-life\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span class=\"s5\">stay<\/span><\/a> on September 11, cutting off Planned Parenthood\u2019s funding while the case proceeded \u2013 and later issued a <a href=\"https:\/\/aclj.org\/pro-life\/major-victory-aclj-helps-secure-ruling-upholding-law-to-defund-planned-parenthood?utm_source=THPost&amp;utm_campaign=d-03202026_top-PL_con-AbortionIndustry_var-Backlink\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span class=\"s9\">unanimous landmark ruling<\/span><\/a> upholding Section 71113 in its entirety and vacating both injunctions.<span class=\"s2\"> Win.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>Maine Family Planning opened a second legal front in Maine federal district court. We <a href=\"https:\/\/aclj.org\/pro-life\/courts-cannot-force-congress-to-fund-abortion-providers-aclj-defends-constitutional-separation-of-powers-in-maine-case?utm_source=THPost&amp;utm_campaign=d-03202026_top-PL_con-AbortionIndustry_var-Backlink\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span class=\"s9\">filed amicus briefs<\/span><\/a> there at both the district and appellate levels arguing that no court can force Congress to spend money it specifically voted not to spend. The district court denied their injunction entirely, and after the First Circuit\u2019s decisive ruling in the Planned Parenthood case, Maine Family Planning <a href=\"https:\/\/aclj.org\/pro-life\/victory-abortion-clinic-abandons-legal-challenge-to-defunding?utm_source=THPost&amp;utm_campaign=d-03202026_top-PL_con-AbortionIndustry_var-Backlink\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span class=\"s9\">abandoned its appeal altogether<\/span><\/a> and stipulated to dismissal. <span class=\"s2\">Win.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>Even as those cases were resolved, California organized a coalition of 22 states to file their own lawsuit \u2013 <span class=\"s6\"><em>California et al. v. HHS<\/em><\/span> \u2013 seeking to reimpose Planned Parenthood funding across their jurisdictions. We <a href=\"https:\/\/aclj.org\/pro-life\/aclj-files-seventh-amicus-brief-to-defund-planned-parenthood-battling-massive-state-coalition-attack-on-life?utm_source=THPost&amp;utm_campaign=d-03202026_top-PL_con-AbortionIndustry_var-Backlink\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span class=\"s9\">filed our seventh amicus brief<\/span><\/a> there, and the First Circuit handed California a <a href=\"https:\/\/aclj.org\/pro-life\/major-victory-federal-appeals-court-rejects-californias-attempt-to-fund-planned-parenthood?utm_source=THPost&amp;utm_campaign=d-03202026_top-PL_con-AbortionIndustry_var-Backlink\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span class=\"s9\">decisive defeat<\/span><\/a>, granting a stay that allowed Section 71113 to take effect even in the plaintiff states. With no viable legal theory remaining, the coalition has now dismissed its own case, seeing the writing on the wall. <span class=\"s2\">Win.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The article concludes:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>As monumental as today\u2019s victory is, Section 71113 of the \u201cBig Beautiful Bill\u201d cuts off Planned Parenthood\u2019s Medicaid funding for one year.
