Chicago is one of America’s great cities. It has wonderful museums, restaurants, and a beautiful lakefront. However, it also has one of the highest murder rates in the country. Lately, there have been some positive changes.<\/p>\n
On Monday, The Post Millennial<\/a> posted an article about some recent changes in Chicago. The article reports:<\/p>\n Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson<\/a> pushed back on President Donald Trump\u2019s claims that federal actions made the city safer<\/a>, but acknowledged that there has been a significant reduction in homicides.<\/strong><\/p>\n Johnson made the remarks during an appearance on MSNOW<\/a>\u2019s \u201cThe Weekend,\u201d where he was asked whether Trump was correct in saying his actions improved public safety in Chicago.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n \u201cHe is not,\u201d Johnson replied, accusing Trump of increasing \u201cinstability\u201d in the country.<\/strong><\/p>\n \u201cWhere ICE and federal agents were present, we actually saw an increase in violence. In other words, the tension and the chaos that federal agents bring to cities in America, it actually is counter-productive,\u201d he claimed.<\/strong><\/p>\n What about the chaos that criminals that are here illegally bring?<\/p>\n The article continues:<\/p>\n However, Johnson then acknowledged a sharp decline in violent crime. \u201cYes, we saw a 30 percent reduction in homicides, shooting, shooting victims, all down,\u201d he said.<\/strong><\/p>\n Johnson also accused Trump of escalating tensions with local governments, claiming the president has \u201cliterally declared war on American cities.\u201d Johnson pointed to executive orders he signed in response that were aimed at limiting federal immigration enforcement, including efforts to create ICE<\/a>-free zones in cities.<\/strong><\/p>\n A thirty percent reduction is pretty significant. I suspect the mayor would be shouting that reduction from the rooftops if he were not afraid that President Trump would get the credit for it!<\/p>\n The article concludes with the following statement by President Trump:<\/p>\n \u201cWe could straighten out the crime in Chicago. We\u2019ve already brought it down 25 percent just by being there. We could have Chicago be a safe city just like D.C. is a safe city. Just like all of these places that we\u2019ve gone to. And I look forward \u2014 you know, I didn\u2019t campaign on that. I campaigned on law and order, but I didn\u2019t think I\u2019d be going into individual cities and making \u2018em safe.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n I wonder if the residents of these cities would like them to be safe.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Chicago is one of America’s great cities.
