{"id":62503,"date":"2026-01-19T15:53:27","date_gmt":"2026-01-19T20:53:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/?p=62503"},"modified":"2026-01-19T15:53:27","modified_gmt":"2026-01-19T20:53:27","slug":"greenland-does-not-necessarily-love-denmark","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/?p=62503","title":{"rendered":"Greenland Does Not Necessarily Love Denmark"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On Friday, <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/01\/16\/world-news\/greenlanders-speak-out-against-danish-rule-they-stole-our-future\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The New York Post<\/a> posted an article about how some of the residents of Greenland feel about Denmark.<\/p>\n<p>The article reports:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>Native Greenlander Amarok Petersen was 27 years old when she learned the gut-wrenching truth about why she couldn\u2019t have children \u2014 and that Denmark was to blame.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>Suffering from severe uterine problems, a medical doctor discovered an IUD birth control device in her body that she didn\u2019t know she had.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>Danish doctors had implanted it when she was just 13 as part of a population control program for thousands of native Greenlandic girls and women.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>\u201cI will never have children,\u201d Petersen told The Post, with tears of anger and sorrow welling in her eyes. \u201cThat choice was taken from me.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>While the government of Denmark<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbs.org\/newshour\/world\/hundreds-of-greenlandic-women-and-girls-were-forcibly-given-contraception-between-1960-and-1991-report-says\"> officially apologized<\/a> last year for decades of forced sterilization of Indigenous women and girls, the horrific mistreatment has cast a long shadow on the island that has become the center of an international ownership fight.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>&#8230;\u201cThe Danes don\u2019t see us as humans,\u201d Petersen said at a local Inuit restaurant overlooking Nuuk\u2019s famous fjords. \u201cThey think we\u2019re too expensive, too small a population. But they take our land, our children, our lives and expect thanks.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>Even in adulthood, medical decisions were made without Petersen\u2019s consent. Plagued with problems after the IUD, she had repeated surgeries for unexplained pain. It wasn\u2019t until years later that doctors informed her that her fallopian tubes had been removed in one of the operations in the early 2000s.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>Her family also suffered under Denmark\u2019s so-called \u201cLittle Danes experiment,\u201d in which Greenlandic children were forcibly sent to Denmark for adoption or institutional care \u2014 often permanently separated from their families, she said.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>The program, which ran from the 1950s through the 1970s, was part of Denmark\u2019s broader effort to<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/01\/14\/world-news\/greenlanders-marvel-at-trumps-obsession-with-their-fate-its-all-about-greenland\/\"> assimilate Greenlandic children<\/a>, often without parental consent.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>It happened to her mother\u2019s brother, Petersen said. Other relatives were subjected to medical experimentation, she added.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>&#8230;Denmark announced in December compensation for victims of forced sterilization, but Petersen called the payments another insult. The women are being offered about $46,000 in reparations.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The article concludes:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>While Greenlanders are divided on the timing and logistics of independence, many agree on one thing: the current system is unsustainable.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>Petersen does not see Trump as a savior \u2014 but she does see his interest as an opportunity.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>\u201cAt least he challenges Denmark\u2019s control,\u201d she said. \u201cThat conversation was never allowed before.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>For her, independence is not about<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/01\/15\/world-news\/greenlanders-say-theyre-not-for-sale-but-partnership-with-us-is-possible\/\"> choosing between Denmark and the US<\/a> \u2014 it is about finally being treated as human beings with the right to decide.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>\u201cWe are only 55,000 people,\u201d Petersen said. \u201cIf someone truly cared, this would already be fixed.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>Instead, she said, Greenland remains spoken for \u2014 but rarely listened to.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>\u201cThey talk about our land,\u201d she said. \u201cThey just never talk to us.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The current situation in Greenland is a disgrace.
