The article explains some of the reasons behind the taking of the tanker.<\/p>\n<p>The article reports:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>Today, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Homeland Security Investigations, and the United States Coast Guard, with support from the Department of War, executed a seizure warrant for a crude oil tanker used to transport sanctioned oil from Venezuela and Iran. For multiple years, the oil tanker has been sanctioned by the United States due to its involvement in an illicit oil shipping network supporting foreign terrorist organizations. This seizure, completed off the coast of Venezuela, was conducted safely and securely\u2014and our investigation alongside the Department of Homeland Security to prevent the transport of sanctioned oil continues.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The article quotes <a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/2025\/12\/10\/venezuela-oil-tanker-seized-trump\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Axios<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Zoom in<\/span>: The U.S. has sanctioned Venezuela\u2019s oil company for years, but this vessel was seized because it was on the U.S. Treasury Department\u2019s \u201c<a role=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/ofac.treasury.gov\/faqs\/topic\/1631\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Specially Designated Nationals<\/a>\u201d list for allegedly violating other sanctions, providing the justification for it to be seized.<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li><strong>The vessel is known as a <a role=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/gunvorgroup.com\/glossary\/very-large-crude-carrier\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">VLCC, or Very Large Crude Carrier<\/a>, capable of transporting as much as 320,000 deadweight tons of crude, two sources with direct knowledge said.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>The exact details of the seizure, first reported by Bloomberg, are unclear and administration officials could not be reached for comment.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The article concludes:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>Then there\u2019s Cuba, the home of the oil on the tanker.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>As Marc Caputo at Axios pointed out, Cuba is an ally of Venezuela and a U.S. adversary.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>The system in place is <a role=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/2025\/12\/10\/venezuela-oil-tanker-seized-trump\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">corrupt because of course<\/a>:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>Havana sells Venezuelan crude on the black market, chiefly to Asian markets that ultimately feed China.<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li><strong>The crude oil is handled by a grandson of Raul Castro, the former leader of Cuba and brother of longtime dictator Fidel Castro, the insiders say.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>In addition to splitting the profits with Venezuela, Cuba supplies intelligence services and agents who protect Maduro.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li><strong>\u201cThis is a twofer: we\u2019re going after Maduro\u2019s bank account and the Cubans that keep him in power,\u201d one of the sources said.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.archives.gov\/milestone-documents\/monroe-doctrine\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">National Archives<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>While the Monroe Doctrine\u2019s message was designed to keep European powers out of the Western Hemisphere, Roosevelt would strengthen its meaning to justify sending the United States into other countries of the Western Hemisphere.\u00a0As a result, U.S. Marines were sent into Santo Domingo in 1904, Nicaragua in 1911, and Haiti in 1915, ostensibly to keep the Europeans out. Other Latin American nations viewed these interventions with misgiving, and relations between the \u201cgreat Colossus of the North\u201d and its southern neighbors remained strained for many years.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>In 1962, the Monroe Doctrine was invoked symbolically when the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.archives.gov\/milestone-documents\/aerial-photograph-of-missiles-in-cuba\">Soviet Union began to build missile-launching sites in Cuba<\/a>. With the support of the Organization of American States, President John F. Kennedy threw a naval and air quarantine around the island. After several tense days, the Soviet Union agreed to withdraw the missiles and dismantle the sites.
