Some of the economic statistics for October and November have not been released because of the government shutdown. I am not sure if they are going to be released.<\/p>\n<p>The article reports:<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-5\" style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>The number of Americans filing for first-time unemployment benefits declined to the lowest level in more than three years, new Department of Labor <a class=\"article-hover-class\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dol.gov\/ui\/data.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">data<\/a> released on Dec. 4 show.<\/strong><\/div>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>For the week ending Nov. 29, initial jobless claims fell by 27,000 to 191,000, marking the fourth consecutive weekly drop.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>Economists had penciled in a reading of 220,000.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Notice how the economists&#8217; estimates are always more negative than the actual figures when a Republican is in office.<\/p>\n<p>The article notes:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>But while slowing layoffs and declining jobless claims have been positive signs, the futures market overwhelmingly expects the Federal Reserve to lower interest rates when monetary policymakers convene their two-day policy meeting next week.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>Minutes from the October Federal Open Market Committee meeting reveal a divergence in views of where monetary policy is headed. Commentary from central bank officials also suggests different assessments of the U.S. economy.<\/strong><\/p>\n<div class=\"my-5\" style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>\u201cFrom late spring through June, the soft data, including anecdotes from business contacts, suggested the labor market was in a \u2018no hire, no fire\u2019 equilibrium,\u201d Fed Gov. Christopher Waller said in a <a class=\"article-hover-class\" href=\"https:\/\/www.federalreserve.gov\/newsevents\/speech\/waller20251117a.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">speech<\/a> last month. \u201cFirms repeatedly said they were holding off on hiring for a variety of reasons.\u201d<\/strong><\/div>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>Waller, considered a top contender to replace Fed Chair Jerome Powell next year, supports a quarter-point rate cut to the benchmark federal funds rate.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>Cleveland Fed President Beth Hammack has expressed skepticism over<\/strong> <strong>further rate cuts, warning of high inflation.<\/strong><\/p>\n<div class=\"my-5\" style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>\u201cI remain concerned about high inflation and believe policy should be leaning against it,\u201d Hammack said at a Nov. 6 Economic Club of New York <a class=\"article-hover-class\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=iMGkS-PwalM\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">event<\/a>.<\/strong><\/div>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>The headline annual inflation rate presently sits at 3 percent. The Fed\u2019s preferred inflation measure\u2014the personal consumption expenditure price index\u2014is at 2.7 percent.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Somehow inflation was not a worry when the rates were cut during the Biden administration.
