On Saturday, The Western Journal<\/a> posted an article about a journalist who was offended by the fact that a performance at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., opened with the playing of the Star Spangled Banner.<\/p>\n

Jamie Stiehm, who has contributed to several corporate media outlets, including The New York Times<\/a> and The Washington Post<\/a>, wrote<\/a> for The Capital Times on Thursday that though the \u201cStar-Spangled Banner\u201d might be appropriate for \u201cballparks and stadiums,\u201d it is \u201cdissonant\u201d to play before a classical music concert in today\u2019s political climate.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Stiehm said that classical music transcends international boundaries, but the national anthem pulls the arts back into the orbit of President Donald Trump\u2019s influence.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Television stations used to sign on and off the air with the playing of the Star-Spangled Banner. The song has nothing to do with President Trump other than at this time he is the President of America. Is that what is actually bothering her?<\/p>\n

After attending a symphony at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, the columnist opined about the National Symphony now reportedly playing<\/a> the national anthem ahead of performances, under Trump\u2019s leadership.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cReaders, President Donald Trump\u2019s new regime at the beloved center decreed the National Symphony Orchestra must stand and play the national anthem before every concert. How dissonant,\u201d Stiehm wrote.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The article concludes:<\/p>\n

\u201cSeeking spiritual solace, I washed ashore at the John F. Kennedy Center\u2019s concert hall,\u201d the columnist wrote.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cYes, I loved the crashing chords of the \u2018Organ Symphony\u2019 by Saint-Saens and the lyrical light notes of Beethoven\u2019s Piano Concerto No. 1.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201c\u2018The Star-Spangled Banner\u2019 not so much.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

Stiehm then concluded the piece by paraphrasing someone else who attended.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cThese times reminded her of her German girlhood,\u201d Stiehm said, adding that this person was a young girl during World War II.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The columnist told the DCNF that the article clearly articulates her stance on the national anthem being played before classical music concerts.<\/strong><\/p>\n
