Because of a complaint about the Christian theme of the painting, the painting had been placed in the \u201cflood-prone basement of the Academy\u2019s chapel.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The article reports:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy fulfilled his promise to restore the historic \u201cChrist on the Water\u201d painting at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy to the Elliot M. See Room of Wiley Hall.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>Painted in 1944 by marine artist Lt. Hunter Wood, the 10-foot by 19-foot piece of artwork was prominently displayed for nearly 80 years before <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usmma.edu\/about\/museum\/christ-water-painting\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">constitutional complaints<\/a> made during the Biden administration led to its relocation in the \u201cflood-prone basement of the Academy\u2019s chapel,\u201d the Transportation Department said.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\" data-pasted=\"true\"><strong>\u201cBurying this historic painting in the basement wasn\u2019t just a mistake\u2014it was an insult to the faith and legacy of service that built this Academy and our nation,\u201d Duffy said in a statement. \u201cBy restoring \u2018Christ on the Water\u2019 to its rightful place, we sent a clear message to our midshipmen: their Christian faith is a virtue to be proud of, not something to be censored.\u201d \u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p data-pasted=\"true\">Burying America&#8217;s Christian heritage in the basement is not appropriate. It should be noted that America&#8217;s Founding Fathers established a church within the United States Capitol before it was complete and continued to hold Church services in the Capitol until after the Civil War (source <a href=\"https:\/\/christianheritagefellowship.com\/when-the-united-states-capitol-was-a-church\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a>). The Judeo-Christian ethic is the foundation of our legal system. If you continue to try to destroy the foundation, eventually the building collapses.<\/p>\n<p data-pasted=\"true\">The article at Townhall includes the Academy Superintendent&#8217;s response to returning the painting to its rightful place:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\" data-pasted=\"true\"><strong>\u201cI want to thank Secretary Duffy for his continued support of our Academy and the midshipmen who call this place home,\u201d said U.S. Merchant Marine Academy Acting Superintendent Captain Tony Ceraolo. \u201cOur purpose today is to preserve a piece of the Academy\u2019s cultural and historical legacy. We honor the past and the resilience of those who came before us.
