Lately, the Republicans have figured out that they can play that game too.<\/p>\n<p>On Thursday, the <a href=\"https:\/\/tomknighton.substack.com\/p\/so-thats-what-theyre-calling-it-now?utm_source=post-email-title&amp;publication_id=157196&amp;post_id=170976509&amp;utm_campaign=email-post-title&amp;isFreemail=true&amp;r=ch1ue&amp;triedRedirect=true&amp;utm_medium=email\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tilting At Windmills<\/a> website on Substack reported:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>The term \u201cgerrymandering\u201d has become a big part of the recent news cycle. Mostly, it\u2019s been a yawn for me. Both sides do some degree of gerrymandering, but it\u2019s only a problem when the other side does it.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>Texas, however, was engaging in a little bit of it that would oust Rep. Jasmine Crockett and help Republicans snag a few more seats in the midterms, where the president\u2019s party typically loses a bit of ground.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>And people lost their minds over it, acting like this has never happened anywhere else, and that it\u2019s somehow the most horrible thing in the world despite the pile of examples of Democrats doing it.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>Politico, however, went a slightly different direction in their headline for a story about the situation <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2025\/08\/10\/democrats-pritzker-republicans-redistricting-gerrymandering-00501739\" rel=\"\">that reads<\/a>, \u201cDemocrats try to separate their tactical use of redistricting from that of Republicans.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>That\u2019s right, it\u2019s not gerrymandering that Democrats do. It\u2019s \u201ctactical use of redistricting.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>And understand, the word \u201ctactical\u201d isn\u2019t anywhere else in the piece, so that\u2019s Politico\u2019s choice of words there, not a quote from someone like JB Pritzker or some other Democrat trying to deflect.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>No, that\u2019s their covering fire.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>On August 6th, John Hinderaker at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.powerlineblog.com\/archives\/2025\/08\/whos-gerrymandering-whom.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Power Line Blog<\/a> posted a chart showing the impact of gerrymandering:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/gerrymanderingchart.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-60539\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/gerrymanderingchart.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"536\" height=\"844\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/gerrymanderingchart.jpg 536w, https:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/gerrymanderingchart-191x300.jpg 191w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 536px) 100vw, 536px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The chart shows why gerrymandering is important and how it impacts Congress.
