Hugh Hewitt is a Salem Radio Network host. He is also a lawyer <span class=\"expandableItem\">a former official in the Reagan administration, the former president and CEO of the Richard Nixon Foundation, a law professor at Chapman University School of Law, a former columnist for The Washington Post, and a regular political commentator on Fox News.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The article reports:<\/p>\n<p class=\"subheading\" style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>As April 30 approaches\u00a0\u2014\u00a0the date that marks President Donald Trump\u2019s first 100 days in office \u2014 establishment media conservative commentator\u00a0Hugh Hewitt sat down with\u00a0PragerU CEO\u00a0Marissa Streit to\u00a0examine the start of the president\u2019s second term, noting that he is \u201camused by the people who say [Trump] is reckless,\u201d\u00a0given that in reality, the president is \u201cdetermined\u201d to reestablish basic concepts of the U.S. Constitution that have been \u201cabandoned\u201d by the left.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"a9d-pre\" style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>\u201cI am amused by the people who say he\u2019s reckless,\u201d Hewitt said told Streit, adding, \u201cHe is determined to force through the courts challenges to the basic structure of the constitution that were abandoned in the progressive era and then left far behind during the New Deal.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>\u201cThe three great expansions of the government occurs with Woodrow Wilson, FDR, and LBJ,\u201d Hewitt explained. \u201cThat\u2019s 100 years of growth, and 100 years of abusing the original design of the constitution, which is small, limited, enumerated powers.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>\u201cTo get that back, [President Trump]\u2019s launched a thousand ships,\u201d he added. \u201cEven if ten of them make it to the other side, we\u2019ll be in a much better position.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>\u201cRight now, we\u2019re in the\u00a0trifecta:\u00a0a Republican president who\u2019s aligned with the House and the Senate,\u201d Hewitt noted. \u201cAnd when you\u2019re in the trifecta, you can get\u00a0two \u2014 and some people argue, three \u2014 reconciliations through.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>Hewitt elaborated:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 80px;\"><strong>The first reconciliation, which is moving its way through, is the extension of the Trump tax cuts, and their refinement: no tax on tips and a couple other things. Energy production relief, defense buildup of $150 billion, and the fourth part is the border wall \u2014 border security. That, we\u2019ll eventually get through.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 80px;\"><strong>Then there will be more opportunities. If they are smart, they will focus on empowering the executive to take control of the executive branch, meaning that independent agencies are no longer \u201cindependent.\u201d They can move fast, they can break things, they can change regulations.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Please follow the link above to read the entire article.
