The DHS is ending collective bargaining for Transportation Security Officers with the <span class=\"kY2IgmnCmOGjharHErah\">Transportation Security Administration<\/span> (TSA). That seems a little odd until you look into the details.<\/p>\n<p>The article reports:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>According to the report, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">The TSA has more people doing &#8220;full-time union work&#8221; vs. performing actual screening functions at 86% of US airports.<\/span> Put another way, 374 out of 432 federalized airports have <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">fewer than 200 TSA Officers to perform screening functions<\/span>, while the rest are paid by the government but work &#8220;full-time on union matters&#8221; and do not retain certification to perform screening.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>What&#8217;s more, DHS cited a recent TSA employee survey which found that <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">over 60% of &#8220;poor performers&#8221; are allowed to stay employed <\/span>and &#8220;not surprisingly, continue to not perform.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>(Also, maybe get rid of the nut-grabbers in the TSA patdown area when we don&#8217;t want to submit to those Total Recall scanners made by Leidos &#8211; formerly SAIC).<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This is not a successful business plan.<\/p>\n<p>The article concludes:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>&#8220;Thanks to [DHS] Secretary Noem\u2019s action, T<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">ransportation Security Officers will no longer lose their hard-earned dollars to a union that does not represent them<\/span><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">.<\/span> The Trump Administration is committed to returning to merit-based hiring and firing policies,&#8221; a DHS spokesperson said in a statement, adding <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">&#8220;This action will ensure Americans will have a more effective and modernized [workforce] across the nation\u2019s transportation networks\u2014<\/span>meaning shorter airport security wait times.
