As a result, the anti-Trump prosecutor is ordered to produce potential documentation of communications <a href=\"https:\/\/townhall.com\/tipsheet\/miacathell\/2024\/01\/25\/fani-willis-hearing-jan-25-preview-n2634127\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Willis may have had with Special Counsel Jack Smith&#8217;s office and the U.S. House select January 6 committee<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong><span lang=\"EN\">In March, Judicial Watch <\/span><span lang=\"EN\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.judicialwatch.org\/fani-willis-communications\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">launched<\/a><\/span><span lang=\"EN\">\u00a0a lawsuit after Willis denied possessing any records responsive to an August 2023 public records request.\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>The organization, which investigates government misconduct, suggested in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.judicialwatch.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/JW-v-Willis-Jack-Smith-complaint-02805.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">civil action complaint<\/a> that Willis likely lied about the purported lack of responsive records on hand.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>As proof, <span id=\"isPasted\" lang=\"EN\">Judicial Watch referenced\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"EN\"><a href=\"https:\/\/judiciary.house.gov\/sites\/evo-subsites\/republicans-judiciary.house.gov\/files\/evo-media-document\/2023-12-05-jdj-to-willis-re-jan-6-select-committee-docs.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">a December 2021 letter<\/a><\/span><span lang=\"EN\">\u00a0Willis wrote to Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-MS), then chairman of the congressional January 6 committee. In the letter, Willis officially requested the committee&#8217;s help with her Trump investigation and offered to trek to Capitol Hill to convene at the committee&#8217;s convenience.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p id=\"isPasted\" class=\"story-text__paragraph \" style=\"padding-left: 40px;\" data-content-child-index=\"0-2\"><strong>&#8220;It may well be most efficient for your staff and effective for our understanding of my staff and me to meet with your investigators in person. We are able to travel to Washington&#8230;&#8221; Willis wrote, also asking for access to congressional records, such as recordings, transcripts of witness interviews and depositions, communications, and travel documents.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"story-text__paragraph \" style=\"padding-left: 40px;\" data-content-child-index=\"0-2\"><strong>The letter to Thompson is clearly a responsive record, Judicial Watch noted, yet it was neither produced in response to the request nor claimed to be subject to exemption under state law.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p data-content-child-index=\"0-2\">The article concludes:<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\" style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong><span lang=\"EN\" data-ogsc=\"black\" data-ogsb=\"white\">In October 2023, Judicial Watch\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"EN\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.judicialwatch.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/JW-v.-DOJ-Fulton-Co-complaint-03110.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">sued<\/a><\/span><span lang=\"EN\" data-ogsc=\"black\" data-ogsb=\"white\">\u00a0the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), seeking communications between Smith and Willis regarding requests and receipt of federal funding in the Fulton County-level investigation of Trump.\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"EN\" data-ogsc=\"black\" data-ogsb=\"white\">To date, the DOJ is refusing to confirm or deny the existence of such records, claiming that to do so would interfere with enforcement proceedings. Judicial Watch&#8217;s litigation challenging this claim continues.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\" style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/judiciary.house.gov\/sites\/evo-subsites\/republicans-judiciary.house.gov\/files\/evo-media-document\/2023-12-05-jdj-to-willis-re-jan-6-select-committee-docs.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">House Republicans have called on Willis<\/a> to disclose her crew&#8217;s contacts with the J6 committee. <a href=\"https:\/\/s3.documentcloud.org\/documents\/24357347\/screenshot-2024-01-10-at-63544-pm.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Willis refused<\/a>, claiming the request &#8220;violates well-established principles of federalism and separation of powers.&#8221; She told U.S. House Judiciary Committee chairman Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH): &#8220;You cannot\u2014and will not\u2014be provided access to any non-public information about this.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\" style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong><span lang=\"EN\" data-ogsc=\"black\" data-ogsb=\"white\">This month, the Georgia Court of Appeals was supposed to hear oral arguments about\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"EN\" data-ogsc=\"black\" data-ogsb=\"white\"><a href=\"https:\/\/townhall.com\/tipsheet\/miacathell\/2024\/03\/10\/ashleigh-merchant-testimony-n2636142\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">the slew of prosecutorial misconduct claims<\/a><\/span><span lang=\"EN\" data-ogsc=\"black\" data-ogsb=\"white\">\u00a0against Willis after a Fulton County judge&#8217;s\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"EN\" data-ogsc=\"black\" data-ogsb=\"white\"><a href=\"https:\/\/townhall.com\/tipsheet\/miacathell\/2024\/03\/15\/fani-willis-disqualification-decision-n2635598\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">non-disqualification decision<\/a><\/span><span lang=\"EN\" data-ogsc=\"black\" data-ogsb=\"white\">\u00a0allowed her to remain in charge of the Trump case. However, the appeals court\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"EN\" data-ogsc=\"black\" data-ogsb=\"white\"><a href=\"https:\/\/townhall.com\/tipsheet\/miacathell\/2024\/11\/19\/fani-willis-appeals-court-cancels-n2647965\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">abruptly canceled<\/a><\/span><span lang=\"EN\" data-ogsc=\"black\" data-ogsb=\"white\">\u00a0the December 5 hearing &#8220;until further order.&#8221; It&#8217;s still unclear why the proceeding was scrapped.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The claims of equal justice under the law have had a rough week.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On Wednesday, Townhall posted an article about the ongoing legal troubles of Fani Willis.
