{"id":56896,"date":"2024-10-14T09:03:39","date_gmt":"2024-10-14T13:03:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/?p=56896"},"modified":"2024-10-14T09:03:39","modified_gmt":"2024-10-14T13:03:39","slug":"stopping-illegal-votes-before-they-start","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/?p=56896","title":{"rendered":"Stopping Illegal Votes Before They Start"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On Friday, <a href=\"https:\/\/texasscorecard.com\/state\/secretary-of-state-reverses-guidance-allowing-non-citizen-ids-for-voting\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Texas Scorecard<\/a> posted an article about the efforts being made in Texas to ensure the integrity of the election vote.<\/p>\n<p>The article reports:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>In a major reversal from her guidance just days ago, Secretary of State Jane Nelson now says non-citizen driver\u2019s licenses may not be used as a form of voter identification.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>The Texas Department of Public Safety issues driver\u2019s licenses and personal identification cards to lawfully present noncitizens, which are clearly marked \u201cTemporary Visitor\u201d or \u201cLimited-Term\u201d and expire after one year or when the individual\u2019s period of lawful presence ends<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>An <a href=\"https:\/\/texasscorecard.com\/state\/new-texas-sos-advisory-allows-noncitizen-licenses-as-voter-id\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\">advisory<\/a> from the Secretary of State issued Tuesday afternoon stated that while citizens should not use these types of IDs to vote, poll workers should nonetheless offer a regular ballot to people on the voter rolls who present a noncitizen ID. This contrasts with previous guidance from the Secretary of State\u2019s office in 2018, which specifically stated that DPS-issued driver\u2019s licenses and personal identification cards \u201cshould not be used if \u2018Limited Term\u2019 or \u2018Temporary Visitor\u2019 appears on the face of the card, as this indicates the person is not a U.S. Citizen.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>Instead, voters with such IDs were urged to show other forms of identification, including naturalization certificates or passports.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The article concludes:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>\u201cSecretary of State Nelson did the right thing,\u201d said Paxton. \u201cHer amended election advisory closes a potential loophole that could have allowed noncitizens to attempt to vote. Texas must do everything in its power to prevent noncitizens from voting, and this is a critical step toward securing our elections.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>U.S. Rep. <a href=\"http:\/\/directory.texasscorecard.com\/chip-roy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external noopener noreferrer\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">Chip Roy<\/a> reported Thursday evening that, according to DPS, 2,824,613 noncitizens have driver\u2019s licenses or IDs issued by the state.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Preemptive measures are the only way to ensure election integrity in November.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On Friday, The Texas Scorecard posted an article about the efforts being made in Texas to ensure the integrity of the election vote.
