{"id":555,"date":"2009-02-21T06:32:33","date_gmt":"2009-02-21T06:32:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/?p=555"},"modified":"2009-02-21T06:32:33","modified_gmt":"2009-02-21T06:32:33","slug":"gas_tax_and_mileage_tax","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/?p=555","title":{"rendered":"Gas Tax And Mileage Tax"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>According to <a href=\"http:\/\/news.yahoo.com\/s\/ap\/20090221\/ap_on_go_ca_st_pe\/lahood_vehicle_mileage_tax\">Yahoo <\/a>news, President Obama will not ok a plan to charge people a tax on the mileage they drive rather than a gasoline tax.&nbsp; Washington may decide that, but it sounds like some of the states have other ideas.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Idaho, North Carolina, and Massachuchuetts are looking at the idea of a mileage tax.&nbsp; Rhode Island&#8217;s governor is on the record as being opposed to the idea.&nbsp; The premise of a mileage tax is that it would better support our crumbling infrastructure as Congress puts pressure on car manufacturers to make cars that get better gas mileage.&nbsp; <\/p>\n<p>OK, so as the consumer gets a product that theoretically costs less to operate, the state governments step in to eat up the savings.&nbsp; Nevermind that many of the fuel efficient cars won&#8217;t hold your family, your luggage, and anything you choose to take on a trip.&nbsp; Americans seem to like big cars, but as gasoline became more expensive, we downsized a little (or at least some of us did).&nbsp; I predict that as Congress takes over the auto industry, they will pressure Detroit into making even more smaller cars that Americans will not buy.&nbsp; At some point, as our cars wear out, we will buy them, consume less gas, and the government will be right there to take any savings we may see!<\/p>\n<p>I have two further comments on this ridiculousness.&nbsp; Number one, where in the Constitution does it allow the government to track my mileage (has anyone in government read the Constitution?)?&nbsp; Number two, does this mean there is no point in selling my Mustang for something fuel efficient?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>According to Yahoo news, President Obama will not ok a plan to charge people a tax on the mileage they drive rather than a gasoline tax.&nbsp; Washington may decide that, but it sounds like some of the states have other &hellip; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/?p=555\">Continue reading <span class=\"meta-nav\">&rarr;<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[1],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-555","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-uncategorized"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/555","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=555"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/555\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=555"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=555"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=555"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
