A CNN panel on Monday said they found it striking that an alternate juror in former President Donald Trump\u2019s case can attend a dentist appointment while the defendant cannot attend momentous events.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Opening arguments for Trump\u2019s\u00a0trial<\/a>\u00a0related to a $130,000 payment to porn star\u00a0Stormy Daniels<\/a>\u00a0began on Monday, and the judge overseeing the case,\u00a0Juan Merchan,\u00a0reportedly<\/a>\u00a0will end the session early to allow one of the alternate jurors to attend the appointment. Merchan previously\u00a0ruled<\/a>\u00a0that Trump must be in the courtroom throughout the trial because of his status as a criminal defendant, meaning he is not permitted to attend the Supreme Court\u2019s Thursday presidential immunity argument and may not be able to go to his son Barron\u2019s\u00a0graduation<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n

…\u201cAnd the fact that he can\u2019t attend Thursday\u2018s historic Supreme Court argument on presidential immunity and there\u2019s an open question about whether he\u2019ll be able to attend his son\u2019s graduation,\u201d Reid (CNN legal correspondent Paula Reid) added. \u201cThe judge said he\u2019ll consider that, but look, he\u2019s a criminal defendant. He has to attend every single day of court unless he gets a waiver, but the jurors, the judge has signaled he\u2019s going to work around their schedule.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

This is unbelievable. I can’t believe this is happening in America. We used to believe in equal justice under the law. Now the judicial system is being used as a political attack arm of the government.
