Personally, I am not opposed to a government shutdown. During the rather drawn-out election of Kevin McCarthy, one of the things that was discussed (and I thought agreed to) was a return to the budget process requiring individual votes on the 12 appropriations bills that make up what\u2019s known as the \u201comnibus package. This supposedly would be the end of the omnibus packages and the threat of government shutdowns.<\/p>\n<p>On March 10, 2022, I posted the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/?p=44799\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">following<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>Someone asked the website <a href=\"https:\/\/www.quora.com\/When-did-the-US-Congress-last-pass-a-proper-annual-budget?share=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Quora<\/a> when the last federal budget was passed using the conventional budget process.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>The website posted the following answer:<\/strong><\/p>\n<div class=\"q-text\">\n<p class=\"q-text qu-display--block qu-wordBreak--break-word qu-textAlign--start\" style=\"padding-left: 80px;\"><strong>Usually a President\u2019s first year in Office is under the previous President\u2019s budget. However knowing that Barack Obama was winning, the Congressional Democrats used Continuing Resolution to push the budget forward. With Obama in Office, they passed the full budget in April 2009. I think since then we have only operated in a world of continuing resolutions and an omnibus budget. After gaining the control of the congress in 2014, Republican promised to return to regular order and it hasn\u2019t happened yet.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"q-text qu-display--block qu-wordBreak--break-word qu-textAlign--start\" style=\"padding-left: 80px;\"><strong>To answer your question, the 2007\u201308 budget was probably the last regular budget passed.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Federalist reports:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\" data-pf_style_display=\"block\" data-pf_style_visibility=\"visible\"><strong>While we gleefully await the federal government\u2019s bankruptcy at the end of the month, here\u2019s my favorite <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TechEmails\/status\/1575598387335901190\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" data-pf_style_display=\"inline\" data-pf_style_visibility=\"visible\">Elon Musk quote<\/a>: \u201cWhat did you get done this week?\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\" data-pf_style_display=\"block\" data-pf_style_visibility=\"visible\"><strong>Every Republican in Congress should have to answer that question to the American taxpayer (you and me) before even thinking about giving another cent to <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/08\/24\/the-first-republican-debate-was-only-a-game-changer-for-the-delusional-media-desperately-hoping-for-one\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" data-pf_style_display=\"inline\" data-pf_style_visibility=\"visible\">Ukraine<\/a>, the Pentagon, the DOJ, Health and Human Services, and every other department that is, at best, useless, and at worst, packed with paper pushers overtly harassing the people who pay their outsized salaries (you and me).<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\" data-pf_style_display=\"block\" data-pf_style_visibility=\"visible\"><strong>The Musk quote came in a strikingly similar context. In a text chat, some overpaid Twitter executive lectured him about the \u201cinternal distraction\u201d that Musk\u2019s public comments about the company had made after he purchased a large portion of its shares. \u201cNext time we speak, I\u2019d like to provide you perspective on the level of internal distraction right now and how it [sic] hurting our ability to do work,\u201d the executive said.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\" data-pf_style_display=\"block\" data-pf_style_visibility=\"visible\"><strong>\u201cWhat did you get done this week?\u201d Musk replied.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\" data-pf_style_display=\"block\" data-pf_style_visibility=\"visible\"><strong>What makes it so good is that there is no answer to the question. Just some Twitter nerd versed only in talking about \u201coptimization\u201d (meaningless) and \u201ccompany culture\u201d (zero productivity value) blankly staring in a freeze.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p data-pf_style_display=\"block\" data-pf_style_visibility=\"visible\">The article concludes:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\" data-pf_style_display=\"block\" data-pf_style_visibility=\"visible\"><strong>Members of Biden\u2019s own party are dogging his <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/09\/09\/new-york-times-eric-adams-is-a-democrat-so-its-no-longer-hateful-to-oppose-uncontrolled-mass-migration\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" data-pf_style_display=\"inline\" data-pf_style_visibility=\"visible\">open-border policies<\/a>. Health and Human Services <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/03\/07\/its-far-too-late-for-the-experts-to-admit-that-science-is-gray\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" data-pf_style_display=\"inline\" data-pf_style_visibility=\"visible\">melted its own credibility<\/a> on \u201cscience,\u201d then recently flirted with recommending public masking again. The Justice Department is found out over and over again to be hostile <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/06\/23\/hunter-biden-is-above-the-law\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" data-pf_style_display=\"inline\" data-pf_style_visibility=\"visible\">toward the rule of law<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/06\/22\/fbi-knew-hunter-bidens-laptop-was-authentic-a-year-before-pressuring-big-tech-to-censor-it\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" data-pf_style_display=\"inline\" data-pf_style_visibility=\"visible\">the will of the people<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\" data-pf_style_display=\"block\" data-pf_style_visibility=\"visible\"><strong>Which of the seven heads on this monstrosity is even bothering to smile at me? Why would I care if the federal government is funded when it does nothing for me? What\u2019s worse, it functions in ways that make clear it deeply resents me.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\" data-pf_style_display=\"block\" data-pf_style_visibility=\"visible\"><strong>Tell me, Republicans.
