{"id":51646,"date":"2023-08-20T15:18:52","date_gmt":"2023-08-20T19:18:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/?p=51646"},"modified":"2023-08-20T15:18:52","modified_gmt":"2023-08-20T19:18:52","slug":"privacy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/?p=51646","title":{"rendered":"Privacy?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On Saturday, <a href=\"https:\/\/townhall.com\/tipsheet\/saraharnold\/2023\/08\/19\/citibank-subpoenad-for-providing-biden-doj-with-customer-information-after-j6-n2627256#google_vignette\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Townhall<\/a> posted an article about a subpoena issued by House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan to Citibank.<\/p>\n<p>The article reports:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH) issued a subpoena to Citibank over allegations that the company provided private information of customers involved in the January 6 Capitol Hill protests to the weaponized Department of Justice.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>The subpoena came after Jordan declared the bank was not cooperating with the Committee\u2019s requests to turn over crucial documentation.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>\u201cThe Committee and Select Subcommittee have obtained evidence showing that at least one major financial institution provided the FBI with private financial data without legal process,\u201d Jordan wrote to Sunil Garg, CEO of Citibank North America. \u201cBank of America (BoA) provided the FBI \u2014 voluntarily and without any legal process \u2014 with a list of individuals who made transactions in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area with a BoA credit or debit card between January 5 and January 7, 2021.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>Jordan\u2019s letter also stated that individuals who previously bought a firearm with a BoA product were moved to the top of that list\u2014 regardless of the time or place of the firearm purchase.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>The Committee alleges that the bank shared individuals\u2019 private information regarding their accounts with the FBI despite having no criminal past.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Keep in mind that the purchases were tracked because people used their credit cards. How much easier would it be to track the purchases of all Americans if we were using digital currency?<\/p>\n<p>The article concludes:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>\u201cThese documents suggest that the executive branch was brainstorming informal methods\u2014 outside of legal process\u2014for obtaining private customer information from financial institutions,\u201d Jordan\u2019s letter continued.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>Jordan has also sought information from JPMorgan, PNC, U.S. Bancorp, Wells Fargo, and Trust Financial Corporation.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>\u201cGiven this concerning testimony, the Committee has written to other major financial institutions, including Citibank, to determine whether those entities were involved in similar conduct,\u201d he said.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>The Ohio congressman hinted at future legislation that would hold financial institutions responsible if they participate in such activity.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I know someone whose PayPal account was closed because she purchased a hamburger with her credit card in Washington on January 6th. She attended the rally, but went back to her hotel afterwards. Sharing credit card records of people who have not committed a crime should be illegal if it is not already.
