{"id":49712,"date":"2023-03-20T13:27:02","date_gmt":"2023-03-20T17:27:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/?p=49712"},"modified":"2023-03-20T13:27:02","modified_gmt":"2023-03-20T17:27:02","slug":"waking-up-one-state-at-a-time","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/?p=49712","title":{"rendered":"Waking Up&#8211;One State At A Time"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On Sunday, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/2-more-gop-states-exit-national-voter-verification-coalition_5132778.html?utm_source=morningbriefnoe&amp;src_src=morningbriefnoe&amp;utm_campaign=mb-2023-03-19&amp;src_cmp=mb-2023-03-19&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;est=ZETdnNIMif8vIVWhDaMYPEOOHLtMXvUzK7B3pNKOUjTZYgiF5XCKu44vhvP40XpDIgj5uA%3D%3D\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Epoch Times<\/a> reported that two more GOP-led states are withdrawing from the national voter verification coalition.<\/p>\n<p>The article reports:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>Frank LaRose, Ohio\u2019s secretary of state rumored to be mulling a run for the U.S. Senate in 2024, announced the decision in a letter (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.democracydocket.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/LaRoseERIC.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pdf<\/a>) to the director of the coalition, called\u00a0the Electronic Registration Information Center (ERIC).<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>\u201cI cannot justify the use of Ohio\u2019s tax dollars for an organization that seems intent on rejecting meaningful accountability, publicly maligning my motives, and waging a relentless campaign of misinformation about this effort,\u201d LaRose wrote.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>LaRose\u2019s letter came soon after member states that are part of the coalition held a meeting on Friday and a proposal to reform some of the coalition\u2019s bylaws failed.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>\u201cERIC has chosen repeatedly to ignore demands to embrace reforms that would bolster confidence in its performance, encourage growth in its membership, and ensure not only its present stability but also its durability,\u201d LaRose wrote.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>He argued that the coalition has transformed from a \u201cpreviously bipartisan organization to one that appears to favor only the interests of one political party.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The article also notes:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>ERIC was set up to let elections officials from different states cross-check data when seeking to confirm their voter rolls. It lets states know when voters move or die so that voter rolls can be kept up to date.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>It also generates data on people who may be eligible to register to vote but have not, while requiring states to contact such would-be voters.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>But the coalition has been under fire from Republicans in several states in the wake of 2021 allegations by Gateway Pundit that the coalition was \u201ca left-wing voter registration drive disguised as voter roll clean-up.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>During Friday\u2019s meeting and vote, two initiatives failed. One of them\u2014previously proposed by LaRose\u2014would have allowed member states to decide what to do with data produced by ERIC. The other would have tied the requirement to contact eligible unregistered voters to a report that helps states identify double voting.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>Iowa and Ohio are the sixth and seventh GOP-led states to opt out of ERIC, with media speculation that others might soon join. Alabama, Florida, Louisiana, Missouri, and West Virginia have all dropped out of the coalition.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Voter integrity is important.
