{"id":48085,"date":"2022-11-18T05:24:52","date_gmt":"2022-11-18T10:24:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/?p=48085"},"modified":"2022-11-18T05:24:52","modified_gmt":"2022-11-18T10:24:52","slug":"the-problem-with-mail-in-ballots","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/?p=48085","title":{"rendered":"The Problem With Mail-In Ballots"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On Monday, <a href=\"https:\/\/ijr.com\/journalist-exposes-mail-vote-disaster-clark-county\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Independent Journal Review<\/a> posted an article about signature verification used on mail-in ballots in Nevada.<\/p>\n<p>The article reports:<\/p>\n<div>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>For the second congressional election in a row, a journalist has demonstrated that there is a potential hole that could be exploited in the way one Nevada county deals with mail-in ballots.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>In <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/journalist-tests-nevada-voter-signature-verification-discovers-whopping-89-failure-rate\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2020<\/a>, columnist Victor Joecks of the Las Vegas Review-Journal tested Clark County, Nevada\u2019s signature verification process for mail-in ballots, and found that eight ballots were accepted in which the handwriting on the envelope containing the ballot and the ballot itself was different.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>This year, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/republicans-celebrate-massive-win-pa-supreme-court-makes-mail-ballot-ruling-just-time-midterms\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">six ballots<\/a> made it through, he wrote in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reviewjournal.com\/opinion\/opinion-columns\/victor-joecks\/victor-joecks-clark-county-accepted-my-signature-on-6-mail-ballot-envelopes-2674184\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Las Vegas Review-Journal<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>\u201cI had 11 people send me a picture of their ballot envelope. I then wrote their name in my handwriting. Each voter then copied my version of their signature onto their ballot return envelope.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>\u201cThey sent me a picture to ensure it wasn\u2019t their normal handwriting. This simulated signing someone else\u2019s ballot,\u201d he wrote. \u201cIt\u2019s also legal because each voter signed his or her own ballot.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>In a perfect system, all 11 would have been set aside, he said. Instead, only five failed to make it through.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>So according to what he did, it is possible that slightly over half of the ballots accepted could have invalid signatures.<\/p>\n<p>The article concludes:<\/p>\n<div>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>Nevada voters had until Monday to resolve problems with mail-in ballots, a process known as curing.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>Joe Gloria, Clark County\u2019s registrar of voters, said that as of Saturday there were 14,651 uncured ballots in his county, of which 7,139 remained unresolved as of Saturday, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/politics\/2022\/11\/12\/nevada-last-ditch-effort-make-sure-every-vote-counts\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Washington Post<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Let&#8217;s just all go to the polls on election day like we used to. I would even allow one extra day, but I would not allow mail-in ballots.
