On Monday, Breitbart<\/a> reported that the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously to end the requirement that people working for Los Angeles County be American citizens.<\/p>\n

People will still be required to provide proof of citizenship to work for the\u00a0Los Angeles County Sheriff\u2019s Department.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Authored by Chair Hilda l. Solis and co-authored by Sheila Kuehl, the policy allegedly aims to better represent the \u201ccommunity\u201d in city government.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cLos Angeles County\u00a0is a community of immigrants from each corner of the world,\u201d said Solis in a\u00a0statement<\/a>. \u201cAnd while our County-government workforce reflects the community it represents, there is room for improvement. This motion seeks to make clear that the County, as one of the largest employers in the region, strives to be an inclusive and diverse workforce, and is committed to not excluding nor allowing citizenship to be a barrier to employment.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

Solis noted an estimated 880,000 non-citizens live in Los Angeles and the county\u2019s Public Defender\u2019s Office had received \u201capplications from non-citizens who are otherwise allowed to practice law in California but are disqualified from the application process because of the citizenship requirement,\u201d according to Fox Business<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Los Angeles County Public Defender Ricardo Garc\u00eda said requiring citizenship to work for the city government is tantamount to discrimination based on \u201ccultural, racial, ethnic, or religious characteristics.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

Someone needs to explain to the lawmakers that entering America illegally is a crime–it is breaking the law. Requiring citizenship is not discrimination based on “cultural, racial, ethnic, or religious characteristics.” It is simply respecting the law that establishes the border of our country and what one must do legally to enter America.<\/p>\n

As Thomas Jefferson once stated:<\/p>\n

“A country with no Border is not a country.”\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n
