{"id":46104,"date":"2022-06-21T07:23:01","date_gmt":"2022-06-21T11:23:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/?p=46104"},"modified":"2022-06-21T07:23:01","modified_gmt":"2022-06-21T11:23:01","slug":"finally-3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/?p=46104","title":{"rendered":"Finally!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On Sunday, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/fina-restricts-biological-males-identifying-as-females-from-elite-swimming-competitions?utm_campaign=dw_newsletter&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_source=housefile&amp;utm_content=member\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Daily Wire<\/a> posted an article about a recent decision by FINA (<span class=\"top-navigation__name\">F\u00c9D\u00c9RATION INTERNATIONALE DE NATATION <\/span>).<\/p>\n<p>The article reports:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>FINA, the world\u2019s top international swimming association, announced a new policy on gender inclusion on Sunday that further restricts biological males identifying as females from elite swimming competitions.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>The move comes following a vote of the FINA governing body regarding the controversial issue of biological males participating in women\u2019s swimming.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>\u201cWe have to protect the rights of our athletes to compete, but we also have to protect competitive fairness at our events, especially the women\u2019s category at FINA competitions,\u201d FINA President Husain Al-Musallam said in a\u00a0<a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.fina.org\/news\/2649715\/press-release-fina-announces-new-policy-on-gender-inclusion\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">statement<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>The new policy also seeks to consider an \u201copen\u201d category for transgender athletic competition.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>\u201cFINA will always welcome every athlete. The creation of an open category will mean that everybody has the opportunity to compete at an elite level. This has not been done before, so FINA will need to lead the way. I want all athletes to feel included in being able to develop ideas during this process,\u201d he added.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>The only biological males who could compete in women\u2019s swimming under the\u00a0<a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/resources.fina.org\/fina\/document\/2022\/06\/19\/525de003-51f4-47d3-8d5a-716dac5f77c7\/FINA-INCLUSION-POLICY-AND-APPENDICES-FINAL-.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">new policy<\/a>\u00a0would include swimmers who have had \u201cmale puberty suppressed beginning at Tanner Stage 2 or before age 12, whichever is later,\u00a0<u>and<\/u>\u00a0they have since continuously maintained their testosterone levels in serum (or plasma) below 2.5 nmol\/L.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>The new policy would prohibit athletes like Lia Thomas from competing in elite swim meets. Thomas made history earlier this year as the first transgender swimmer to win an event at the NCAA Division I women\u2019s swimming championships.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The article notes:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>Former U.K. swimmer Sharron Davies told BBC Sport she agreed with the decision.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>\u201c\u2018Four years ago, along with 60 other Olympic medallists, I wrote to the IOC and said \u2018Please just do the science first\u2019 and no governing body has done the science until now,\u2019\u201d she\u00a0<a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/sport\/swimming\/61853450?at_custom4=5FFA7C4C-EFE5-11EC-95E3-9FCC923C408C&amp;at_custom2=facebook_page&amp;at_campaign=64&amp;at_custom3=BBC+News&amp;at_medium=custom7&amp;at_custom1=%5Bpost+type%5D\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>There are some differing opinions on the decision:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>\u201c\u2018That is what [FINA] has done. They\u2019ve done the science, they\u2019ve got the right people on board, they\u2019ve spoken to the athletes, and coaches. Swimming is a very inclusive sport, we love everyone to come and swim and be involved. But the cornerstone of sport is that it has to be fair and it has to be fair for both sexes,\u2019\u201d she added.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>Athlete Ally, a pro-LGBT group that supported Thomas in women\u2019s swimming, spoke out against the new policy.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>\u201cFINA\u2019s new eligibility criteria for transgender athletes and athletes with intersex variations is discriminatory, harmful, unscientific and not in line with the 2021 IOC principles. If we truly want to protect women\u2019s sports, we must include all women,\u201d Athlete Ally\u00a0<a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/AthleteAlly\/status\/1538548251841990663\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">tweeted<\/a>\u00a0on Sunday. International Swimming Federation<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The science, however, is obvious. There is a difference between men and women physically. Allowing men to compete in women&#8217;s sports does not acknowledge that difference. Hormone shots or hormone blockers do not erase the differences.
