I suspect the exhibits are going to be far more interesting than the trial itself.<\/p>\n<p>The article reports:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>When we last checked in with the John Durham case against Michael Sussmann, Durham\u2019s team had <a href=\"https:\/\/hotair.com\/john-s-2\/2022\/05\/04\/judge-will-review-attorney-client-privilege-claims-made-by-clinton-campaign-and-fusion-gps-n467131\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">asked the judge<\/a> to decide whether a small group of Fusion GPS emails were covered by attorney-client privilege. According to lawyers for Clinton\u2019s 2016 campaign, Fusion GPS was hired solely to provide legal advice about defamation and libel laws which meant everything they did was legal consulting work. Judge Christopher Cooper didn\u2019t seem to buy that claim and yesterday announced that Fusion GPS would have to turn over 22 emails <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2022\/05\/12\/politics\/fusion-gps-judge-ruling\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">to the prosecutors<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Washington Post reported on May 12th:<\/p>\n<div class=\"article-body\" data-qa=\"article-body\">\n<p class=\"font-copy font--article-body gray-darkest ma-0 pb-md\" style=\"padding-left: 40px;\" data-qa=\"drop-cap-letter\" data-el=\"text\"><strong>The charge against Sussmann is the first Durham case to go to trial. A Washington-based researcher faces trial later this year for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/national-security\/steele-dossier-arrest-danchenko-trump-durham\/2021\/11\/04\/7e76b9ae-3d77-11ec-8ee9-4f14a26749d1_story.html?itid=lk_inline_manual_15\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">allegedly lying to the FBI about how<\/a> he collected allegations against Trump. In 2020, a former FBI lawyer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/national-security\/kevin-clinesmith-fbi-pleads-guilty\/2020\/08\/19\/6c0dec54-e0a0-11ea-8dd2-d07812bf00f7_story.html?itid=lk_inline_manual_15\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pleaded guilty to illegally changing <\/a>a government record.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"article-body\" data-qa=\"article-body\">\n<p class=\"font-copy font--article-body gray-darkest ma-0 pb-md\" style=\"padding-left: 40px;\" data-qa=\"drop-cap-letter\" data-el=\"text\"><strong>Robert Mintz, another former federal prosecutor, said the trial next week \u201cwill be the first real test\u201d of Durham\u2019s work. By going to trial, he said, Sussmann has \u201cthrown down the gauntlet and challenged the significance of the prosecution and the wisdom of bringing the case.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\" data-qa=\"drop-cap-letter\" data-el=\"text\"><strong>&#8230;\u201cThe strategy,\u201d Assistant U.S. Attorney Andrew DeFilippis said in court Monday, \u201cwas to create news stories \u2026 to get the government to investigate it \u2026 and to get the press to report the government was investigating.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\" data-qa=\"drop-cap-letter\" data-el=\"text\"><strong>&#8230;Prosecutors signaled this week that they plan to call a host of current and former law enforcement officials to describe how the FBI pursued the Alfa Bank accusations, and to paint Sussmann as part of a \u201cjoint venture\u201d that included Joffe, Clinton\u2019s campaign, research firm Fusion GPS and cybersecurity experts.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p data-qa=\"drop-cap-letter\" data-el=\"text\">The article at Hot Air quotes a Wall Street Journal article by Kimberly Strassel:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\" data-qa=\"drop-cap-letter\" data-el=\"text\"><strong>Over at the Wall Street Journal, Kimberley Strassel argued yesterday that Durham\u2019s team has already gone a long way to revealing the machinations behind the scenes of the Clinton campaign, Perkins Coie, Fusion GPS <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/john-durham-goes-to-court-russia-collusion-hoax-fbi-trump-clinton-sussmann-dnc-indictment-charges-11652393183?mod=djemalertNEWS\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">and the rest: <\/a><\/strong>(Please follow the above link to the Hot Air article to read the quote)<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\" data-qa=\"drop-cap-letter\" data-el=\"text\"><strong>&#8230;Strassel concludes that Sussmann\u2019s trial \u201con its face is about one lawyer, but in reality is the continuing tale of one of the dirtiest tricks in modern U.S. history.\u201d I guess we\u2019ll see how the trial goes next week. It looks to me like Durham\u2019s team <a href=\"https:\/\/hotair.com\/john-s-2\/2022\/04\/05\/durham-reveals-text-message-that-confirms-sussmann-lied-to-the-fbi-n460198\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">has the goods<\/a> on Sussmann. Whether that will allow him to make a larger case about the Clinton campaigns dirty tricks remains to be seen.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p data-qa=\"drop-cap-letter\" data-el=\"text\">This might be a really good time to sit back and get some popcorn ready.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On Saturday, Hot Air posted an article reminding us that the trial of Michael Sussmann begins Monday.
